We have a better variety than I expected.
EDIT: I just remembered we used to have some hare furrikin right out of Redwall, but I haven't seen him in like five years so I can't remember his name. Used to hang out with Tarielenwe, Isunite.

Yeah, I'm actually pretty surprised. I expected the poll to be full of Foxes and Squirrels. XD
Granted, other than Other, Fox is the most popular with a grand total of four. >.>
Aerotan2010-05-10 14:05:51
And one of those is Aerotan, who's not a vulpes family fox.

That's because everyone takes after the Talnara founders.

Jelaludin has been a furrikin before. He was a coyote furrikin!
Lilia2010-05-20 03:16:02
I had a very short lived fox furrikin alt.

I saw like... three on the road today.

If bats are just tainted birds, what kept the mosquito and other pesky insect populations down pre-taint? I mean, do you know how many mosquitoes bats eat every single night?
Shiri2010-05-20 15:31:10
Potentially a whole lot of things, like wasps, or small harmless spiders or birds we simply don't encounter (there's like two sparrows in the world but they sure make a lot of noise during the daytime...).
But I don't think we can assume that all bats are tainted birds. We know some are 'cause we've seen it happen, but there might be some normal bats out there too.

We all agree with you except Eventru:

'Bat' furrikin would never work - bats were a product of the Taint, or so has been suspected (Viravain would kiss them and remake them into bluejays, when she was attempting to recreate Gloriana - and Viravain made a lot of the animals there).
But even when he's outvoted, he still wins because the rest of us are too blinded to carry on the argument.
Shiri2010-05-20 15:39:20
Woops, I actually didn't see that post. I'm still not convinced, but I do think it would be kind of cool if it were true. I enjoy the subtle differences in Lusternia's fauna like the missing link of even-toed ungulates, rockeaters. Nonetheless I'ma have to go with the devil's proof here.
Noola2010-05-20 15:45:02
I dunno, there'd have to be a crazy lot of spiders and so on to make up for the volume of mosquitoes a single bat eats in its lifetime.
But, maybe there's something that does fill that niche. Hey, maybe it's that mysterious furry creature who sometimes darts across the road randomly, but moves too fast for anyone to see what the heck it is!

That's Ongaku.
Lendren2010-05-20 18:47:49
Or maybe we just have fewer mosquitos since they, too, have a similarly constrained origin.
Shiri2010-05-21 04:15:40
Aren't there mozzies in Balach?
Arix2010-05-21 04:36:00
there are mosquitos in Tolborolla, actually

I think that's Brit-speak for 'mosquitos.'
Here, we call em 'skeeters' for short.
