So uh, this might be a little off to the side, but is the amount of comms you get from shearing something going to go up as well? Do I at least get that? Because if not, I might have to stare at my shiny new shears sadly for a little while.

Shears have always done a fraction of the total of a given tailoring comm used.

I figured, I was just wondering if it was going to change automatically or what. I suppose so. I'm just a little unhappy about all this and pondering the usefulness of my little shears now that I'm probably not going to be tailoring as much as I used to.
ongaku2010-05-13 23:49:51
I didn't tailor much in the first place at all. Barely any of the clothes in my shop have sold. Now I have even less of a reason to stock clothing.

Part of the reasoning for this change was to make commercial governments more attractive if I understood correctly?
From what I've heard and seen of Hallifax trying to improve relations with Southgard, it required huge effort and dedication to move up one level. Now for a city with more than one village, unless something is changed I really think that this will be even more unfeasible with commodities becoming that much more valuable. Hallifax likely had it relatively easy being the only city focussed on gathering commodities but now?
I'm trying to think of a few things the admin could do to maybe alleviate this.
New skills included in the tradeskills perhaps?
Examples:
Milking - MILK COW - Requires a bucket. Allow you to turn in cows for both milk and then slaughter them to get the meat also?
Lumberjack - CHOP SAPLING - Requires an axe. Can cut saplings for wood in neutral and unmelded forest rooms? Saplings will resprout?
Miner - MINE FOR ORE - Requires a pick. Allow you to actually be able to mine underground? Random metal ore or marble?
EDIT: Eventru got in before me, maybe move to more relevant thread if required?

If you feel it is useful, please move my posts pertaining to sorcelglass and artisan pipes to wherever you think they belong most. Or where they are most likely to get read by Estarra/whoever implemented these changes.

It has kind of spread out everywhere.
I think that just goes to show that people are pretty confused with the logic.

We can certainly (and are) looking at village feelings and adjusting as time (and, more importantly, revolts) go(/goes) on. That said, I don't really think commodity quests are going to suddenly become difficult to do.

I understand that alright but with that much more commodities being required now, getting more bang for your buck so to speak would be nice.
Diamondais2010-05-14 00:12:49
Okay, the cost of kata has risen significantly, but it's also given us tempering so it's on and off for its greatness.
Would it be possible however to have Kata and Masterkata weapons? Similar to how we do weapons, we have different categories for a varied amount of weapons which is lovely and it ends with masterweapons that are the penultimate weapon a knight hopes to achieve.
Basically, please different pattern designs for Kata (weaker/cheaper comm cost) and MasterKata (Current weapons/more expensive cost).

Isn't his point more that doing a commodity quest now gives about half, relatively, of what it used to (so you have to do them twice as much to get the comms for the same object)? While the costs didn't change, so it's now twice as expensive for that object (twice the effort for the comms, same gold cost per comm). It seems like the stated concern is that more people will be competing for the resources to do these commodity quests, meaning more strain, etc.
Eventru2010-05-14 00:19:02
I think at the end of the day it will not be that great of an issue. As I've said elsewhere on the topic of village feelings, there are literally hundreds of commodity quests you can do each hour (without raiding miners/farmers/etc). While yes, they've effectively been halved in commodity production terms, the argument holds no more or less weight in my eyes than asking for the amount of miners/farmers/geomycus to be doubled, for commodity production in general to be doubled, etc.
Obviously if Estarra feels like there's a problem with commodity quests, of course, she'll step in and we can make adjustments!

Well, my biggest issue with this is that things got twice as expensive, and I do feel that is a great issue.
Doubling the cost of masterweapons is pretty nasty.

Let's keep somewhere within the same library as the page at hand.
I'll beat - unreasonably hard - people who bring up equally unreasonable solutions.

We should all go naked in protest. I don't know about you, but I can't afford pants anymore, my pants money has been re-allocated to buying shiny rings.

This is an ineffective form of protest for Moondancers.
