I like the fractal in the Matrix. Hallifax gets so much cool stuff.

Gaudiguch looks so sinister!
Hallifax reminds me of Aion though. Screw Pandaemonium.

It would look less sinister if it weren't so dark! I love the buildings, though. Hallifax and Gaudiguch are both so pretty, though in my head Gaudiguch is like a desert/volcano city with red rock and lava everywhere.

I commented elsewhere, but I'll say it here too.
The artwork is much appreciated. They are very well done! I absolutely adore the gaudi piece. It does look sinister, and I keep expecting two gnomes and a fink to show up a the nexus and hurl a ring in, but I feel like it captures the sort of wild vitality that gaudi has.
The Halli one is very cool too. I obviously haven't spent much time there, though in my minds eye I always pictured halli as more densely packed together than that. (However, I expect this is more a subconcious effect of the wackiness of the map).

Yeah, the maps don't do the areas justice.

Same, with the Hallifax bit. A bunch of Crystal Towers floating really closely together with walkways and platforms and elevators connecting them. It had a harsh, crystalline beauty. This, though, seems beautifully open-air.

Well, According to the maps, Hallifax is by far the largest city there is.
Felicia2010-05-16 01:48:55
Well, even on the smushed-together in-game map of Hallifax, the generator pathways and paths radiating out from The Matrix are shown as being really long, unlike the rest of the city.

The new Portal of Fate looks far more foreboding.
Eventru2010-05-16 04:36:18
I don't think Gaudiguch's looks sinister! It looks very... Regal to me. It has that very alluring, mystic air, that wonderfully fantastic atmosphere one gets from watching Aladdin or something.
And Drachou! Hello Drachou. What a good Drachou!

Gaudi does look rather ominous and Mount Doom-y. The brightness of the fire casts everything below in shadow. If you look beyond that, there's much more to the picture, with the flocks of birds(?), gilded domes, and impressive architecture, but it's a stark first impression.
I love Hallifax. It looks really fantastic. The fractal mandala within the Matrix, with smoky curls of power rising up, the crystalline spires all around. It at once captures the essence of the city, and gives me a new way of imagining it.

That's actually one of my favourite things about Gaudiguch's painting. The Eternal Flame casts this sense of raw, primal power on the picture - but once you look below that, you see kind of this serene city, little birds above beautiful buildings, etc. It just plays to the whole nature of Gaudiguch - raw power and beauty. I've never seen Gaudiguch as 'sinister' myself - just very... Esoteric.

I can't put into words how much I love Hallifax's, heh. Beautiful and gorgeous.

Nonsense, the flame in the centre is merely their latests party 'in search of the greatest bonfire in the basin!'. After all, they haven't beaten their own record in nearly three days!

Hallifax might have felt that way with the early maps, but this picture does it much better justice, air is a large part of the city. And not to forget that Hallifax was the ultimate achievement of architecture even before most of the other cities were built. So yes, hallifax is positively gargantuan.

Gaudiguch = cause of global warming
I mean seriously, with that amount of fire burning and smoke rising in the sky, wouldn't be long before Estarra implements a Basin Warming system where erratic and extreme weather will happen and screw gameplay.

For some reason also, I was thinking Frank Frazetta (bless his soul) did this before he died and gave to IRE. Then again, seeing the B signature, I guess that's not him.

More of those pedestrians in Hallifax should have wings, but that said...

Makes me want to start, and get lots of practice in hopes some day I could draw that well.

The artist is the same person who did the racial artwork. He apparently changed his signature from "Spartan" to "B" -- artists!
