It's not based off of what Lamella says, it's based off of what Wise Lady says - two very different persons!
I give 'maybes' and 'might bes' because I prefer not to speak definitively. I can definitively tell you only bad things can come of Nekotai worshiping Scorpion in lieu of Crow/Night and and only bad things come of Ninjakari (or any mortal!) worshiping Illith (or any soulless god!), and a variety of such things.
And I'm not claiming it was a 'lie' or 'fabricated' - I'm simply pointing out it is in error. Blatantly.

So, essentially, you're telling us that something that was fine up until this point (including with our patrons as far as I'm aware) is now going to result in an event which will punish and destroy a guild's entire roleplay focus and direction? When there's been absolutely no problem with it up until now?
:/
(I don't know how else to interpret the bolded part except for an event where our NPCs get "angry".)

It's a possibility. Not on my agenda - as dismissive as it sounds, I've 'bigger' things to worry about than the Nekotai and their roleplay or planning events just to 'destroy a guild's entire roleplay focus and direction'. I think it's interesting, certainly, that a guild worships a non-commune spirit. All I'm saying is - Scorpion isn't a spirit of the Glomdoring. There's no guarantee Scorpion even likes Glomdoring. For all we know Raven stole Scorpion's favourite barette and she's had a vendetta over it for millenia. I've no idea. But it'd certainly be interesting to see how the Nekotai handle such a situation!
And I know it's been made very clear among the administration that Scorpion is not a Glomdoring spirit, and the Nekotai shouldn't worship her.

Ah, well that's cool. But... did anyone tell the Nekotai that?

Uh. No. This is news to me. I think the most we've gotten is that she's not going to stand with us directly.
Edit: And telling us to not worship her would probably be met with obscene and unkind suggestions.

Note: this can probably be avoided if you try to help the other guilds out sooner rather than any later, so we don't end up giving up, making up about Bull, and then having to have you guys intervene and stomp on it later...it's been a few years now, surely it's about time!
Thul2010-05-27 13:12:22
I thought Charune made cows. Embarrassed about them as he was. You could theoretically have asked him at some point, couldn't you?

Not to hijack the thread any more than that one remark, but yeah, we tried that.

Doubt it. Despite all visible intentions, it looks like monks are meant to simply stay tack-ons that develop no culture of their own. That is, unless you're really looking forward to opening the possibility of Bad Things for reasons you could not foresee, or having everything you worked on turned upside-down and foisted into your face like a rotten egg.

Yeah, I'm really not digging this "only bad things can happen if you let your monks develop their RP based on what they're given" thing.
Especially since this is the first time any administration staff has mentioned that this is a "bad thing". We've had our monks with this RP, and their books, and their GH growth, and their entire culture based on the Scorpion since the Scorpion Caverns opened.
To the point where Glom's even discussed working on some scorpion-cave-expansions in the Glomdoring itself, to basically strengthen bonds and make a guild feel more included. So, it really hasn't been a secret.
I'm frankly quite upset that we're now getting told not to do this under threat of "Bad Things," after it's been this way for ages without any concern being forwarded to us (the players). The time for this would have been when the focus was first being crafted, not this long afterwards. :/

Well, the Blacktalon have Brother Crow and Brennan, and the Shadowdancers have Mother Night and Rowena. Those denizens more-or-less "belong" to their respective guilds, and are the most visible representatives of the Glomdoring. The Ebonguard at least have the Ebonglom Wyrdling, which is pretty cool, and perhaps other representatives (?). The Harbingers... well, we Harbingers have the Echo of Mahalla. Mahalla is virtually unknown outside of the the Harbingers, much less outside of Glomdoring. She's not even particularly well known inside the Harbingers, since her sole function is as a skill trainer and lore fulcrum. She's not part of any of the commune's rituals or quests, unlike Crow, Mother Night, Rowena, Brennan and the Wyrdling.
The Nekotai seem to be in much the same boat. They probably have an obscure trainer in their guild hall that no one really knows about, and that's it. The Harbingers actually preside over Glomdoring's stage, which counts for something; so in that sense, the Nekotai are worse off than anyone.
I definitely agree with Xenthos about the "tacked-on" feeling; I don't mean that in a sarcastic way, but it certainly seems to me that bards and monks both are far less intimately integrated with the commune than the original three guilds. If the Nekotai can't have Scorpion, perhaps they should be given something else. It's true that all Glomdorian guilds revere Brother Crow and Mother Night, but they're especial to the Blacktalon and Shadowdancers.

Actually, I'ma split this into another thread, it's off-topic but it is an important topic that is long overdue attention.

Here I was thinking the Nekotai had the best rp background thing among all the monk guilds.

They did. It was even something we have (as Commune leaders) have used to try and include them as their own unique entity and not just some random weird guild off in the corner.
This is why I'm so frustrated that I am just now being told this is going to lead to "Bad Things".

The problem is, the Nekotai have already spent IC years (even a year or more RL) building roleplay around Scorpion. It's difficult to just throw around all that. The Nekotai are (from my perspective) the best integrated monk guild, and they just might lose that if the Grandmother Scorpion RP is sliced off.

Glom or a glom guild having to shift rp yeah that is new and never been done before, ever.

Same here. It would be sad to see all those work everyone has done for years get binned because of some delayed forecast of doom. The works the Nekotai have submitted to the Library are all good. Good in the sense that they are representative of the guild's ties to the commune and to spirit scorpion.
Noola2010-05-27 15:33:44
I'm just kind of surprised that if it was agreed upon amongst the Admin that Scorpion shouldn't be worshiped in the Glomdoring, that no one (especially the Glomdoring Admins) thought, "um, mayhaps we ought to nip this in the bud" when all the Scorpion worshipful stuff started showing up in Glomdoring org files and books.

It's not just the Nekotai, though. All of the bard and monk guilds have a problem integrating themselves into their organization RP-wise - it's just that the Nekotai have (so far) the best progress in integrating, and it looks like even that is being taken away, which is a tad bit demoralizing for all the other monk and bard guilds. What if the RP they're going for is decided by the administration to be improper and take it away, too?
