Guild enemies

This was something I was thinking about late last night. What point does guild enemying have other than:

  • Extracting gold or services from people who want to get unenemied.
  • Stroking the ego of a guild leader who wants to keep someone enemied.
  • Acting as a hit list for some guilds.
  • Acting as a way to block or annoy people who want to join the org in question.

Is there any good reason out there or any sort of unique reason to enemy out there?

The answer is no.

However, Wiccan and Guardians can declare people enemies of the respective Ethereal/Cosmic Plane. Which -is- useful. But other than that, no.

Imo, enemy status is not used for what it is designed for. Enemy status is used for griefing, along with what you had listed.

Nienla's lying. The other reason is because people have to collect all their enemy statuses. So, it's not just about stroking the ego of the guild leaders. wink.gif

I knew that, yes. That was so nice when that was put in.

I meant on the enemying side. I was considering making it practically impossible to be enemied to the Sentinels long-term.

It also helps make 'ENEMIED TO' portion of your STAT ugly. Some people use it for perms, too!
Unknown2010-06-24 19:39:00
Yeah, don't forget trade bans!

It's true. I do wear my badges with pride.

It doesn't really have any real purpose. When I was Harbinger GM I tried to make it incredibly hard to get enemied to the guild for anything against heinous crimes against the guild, and I think it worked out well.

I tried this, but it never worked out. As far as I'm concerned, guild enemy status is just a way to mirror Moon status, because Moon won't show on HONOURS like guild status will, and only guild leaders can even see the list. But mostly I leave it to Solanis these days.

It helped that the Harbingers don't have a plane or a set of raidable ents attached to the guild that we would need to enemy for. It's just be too hard for guardians, wiccans, druids, and mages to do.

There are only a few circumstances in which I allow enemying to the Serenguard. It's not used as a way to get quick gold (we don't enemy you for raiding, for example), it is used to make a statement. The most common way to earn an enemy status is to kill the centaurs in Hifarae.

That's really the only purpose I can find for it, making a statement.
Aerotan2010-06-24 21:13:09
There's also the fact for some guilds that their guard is tied to guild enemy status, I'm told. Or statue/tree tuning. Or manse perms, but not shop perms.
Xenthos2010-06-24 21:37:23
250gp bounty per centaur > random Serenguard enemying. Woo!

That said, the Ebonguard is currently sitting at 36 enemies. We only really enemy for two things, and as such the list tends to stay pretty low.

That said, I have a personal aversion to throwing guild enemy status around. Always felt like a sort of futile "oh yeah?!" move when a regular city enemying suffices. I'm sure we'll have a few who desperately earn the status soon enough, but it won't be from some knee-jerk asshattery. Unlike, say, a certain guild who enemied a lower circle noncom guildmate for bashing aslaran.

Or the actions of Captain Frivilous.

You know who.

That's pretty much my feeling on the matter too.

Org-enemy status is for people who do something to the organization. Guild is for people who do something to the guild. Since it's more of a label than anything that actually has an impact, might as well use it as said label.
Casilu2010-06-24 22:05:23
We have one now. I just think what he did deserved it since we don't know if we can technically enemy him to the city, I just hope this doesn't become common.

Edit: And I may or may not take away his enemy status since he is now enemied to the city for the same thing.
Kante2010-06-25 02:34:28
As Ambassador, guild enemy statuses make my life harder.

Moondancers is slightly different though, as you have an org you enemy for attacks against - Moon. Sure, Moon has fewer enemies than the guild - but I expect a lot of people got enemied for assisting in raids without actually landing the killing blow, or later got amnesty from Moon without getting unenemied to Moondancers.

Different from, say, a Cacophony enemying.
