The idea of heartstone sounds better for an instakill than a resurrection skill.

I don't understand why people feel this way. Quite honestly, this feels like the best of all rezz skills in the game (and I was a bit concerned Celestines and Moondaers would be upset!). It's a bit like Lich, but... Quite a bit better. You can roam as far as you like (through doors, into rooms, past other people blocking exits, etc), then get rezzed and wham. There's two of you on the other side of whatever was in your way.

Or you can flutter back to safe haven then be rezzed, even if someone's burned your corpse to cinders.

It would be pretty cool if there was some difficult way to forcibly give somebody a heartstone, so that it could be a resurrection skill AND an instant kill. Though if they did that I imagine the forcible method would have to kill them right then, since being able just blow up your enemy at a whim on some later date would be pretty OP.

I think they don't like it cause the only person who can rez you has to be online when you die.

But, honestly, I am in love with the whole idea of it and can't wait until I have the ability. I think it's just the coolest thing ever. Especially when my character finds a spouse. wub.gif It's so sweet!

It's amazing in the ways you described, but on the other hand it's reactive and specific to the person. If you get a lichseed, which I think lasts through logout, you can die whenever and you'll be A-OK. If you get a heartstone, the person has to be alive and online when you die, meaning if there's a teamfight you might be screwed and it doesn't "last through logout" as effectively.

Will have to see how it works in practice before determing if it's too good or not.

The fact that you need to have one specific person being around when you die makes it a very limiting rezz skill. I'd rather separate the two aspects of this rezz skill and then buffing up the actual rezzing part.

I can only hope that heartstone break being forcable is going to get changed very soon, too.

It's a fantastic RP tool for me, personally. happy.gif Xaakin and Saibreas will literally hold one another's hearts in their hands. wub.gif

I know! So. Sweet! wub.gif

That's why I love it. I hold my sisters heart, and know she trusts me enough to have a heart stone! Makes me feel snuggly inside.
Noola2010-06-29 05:07:29
And, there's totally this potential for ultimate betrayal with it to add some spice. Love gone wrong with dire results! ohmy.gif laugh.gif It's really very cool.

I think the big issues are that:
  • It decays. Lichseed, the closest comparable skill, does not decay.
  • Only that one person can revive you. The most common use of that skill would be while bashing on prime, but bad luck if they were not around or dead too.
  • The advantages of sacrifice/res and resergum is that they can be done by anyone with the skill and don't need to be prepared. The advantages of lichseeds and crow eggs are that after they are set, then you do not need anyone else. Ours has the disadvantages of both.

At least that is how I see it.
Sylphas2010-06-29 05:42:40
Resurgem can be annoying at times, but if you have a coven on hand you really can't beat it (if we can keep the damn Altar up). I wouldn't worry about making Serenwilde jealous with new res skills.

People don't trigger eat corpses anymore?

They do, but for general utility it's still wonderful. And occasionally your Mnemosyne's trigger beats theirs.

My issue is the length of ownership really.

Xaldrin has one of mine at the moment which was appropriate cause I was around at the time. But I can't get rid of it and let him get a new one for 300 "days"
Razenth2010-06-29 06:29:45
Can't he just matrix it?
Eventru2010-06-29 06:31:45
Well, might be something to envoy/bring up (which this sort of is!) - a means to just dissolve a heartstone (without killing).

Heartstones settle next to the (meta)physical heart of the person to be resurrected. It's not accessible.

Not a physical item, it's inside their body so they can't just get rid of it
Sylphas2010-06-29 06:46:56
What happens if you break a heartstone while they're logged? Just get a no target error?
Aerotan2010-06-29 06:52:05
Knowing the rest of our skills? It'll fail to fire, but consume the gem anyway.
