I didn't think so. So, sitting idle, waiting for advancement tasks is silly.
In any guild where there is no set list of how to get favors, you generally don't see them handed out too often.
Xavius2010-07-04 02:23:24
I'm hard pressed to think of a single time where it was quicker or easier to try to talk/guilt/harass/shame a fellow Lusternian into doing something compared to just doing it myself.
Rodngar2010-07-04 02:30:25
Why must every guild have a complicated or simple grocery list of tasks to achieve rank? As far as I'm concerned, rank should be hard to gain in the Illuminati and paths should not exist as defined sets of simple tasks to gain it - because frankly, by giving you rank three, I am trusting you with the health and safety of the fleshpots. I for one (and I'm sure the GM and GA will agree) will refuse to give that trust lightly and that is that. I'm already uncomfortable with a handful of people being grandfathered in to be allowed to handle the fleshpots as it is.
EDIT: Also, for those of you wondering, the Champion mob is the Inveiglora of Gnostoratu - it has been posted in three different threads on the forums AND it is on Xiel's site, so I'm not sure how people don't know what it is yet. Those of you who missed it:

Sleek in figure, the Inveiglora rises to the common height of a female dracnari, her patchwork features reminiscent of a lithe humanoid. Mottled skin stretches taut over lean muscles, some patches flushed a warm pink, others dark and earthy, and still others a vibrant blue-green. Colours swirl within her irises, shifting ceaselessly along the spectrum; above them, raised ridges run along her brow and down the back of her skull, merging together at the base of the neck to continue as one down her spine. Smooth viridian scales cover her hands and forearms as well as her feet and lower legs, each one gleaming with a preternatural light that shimmers as she moves.
The Inveiglora of Gnostoratu appears to be extraordinarily strong.
She weighs about 130 pounds.
She is loyal to Baron Rodngar Naresni, the Transmogrified.

Except that you realize it has been declared that you are going to have to be GR3 to even join a Path, right? So.. anyone who wants to actually be involved in the guild is going to be GR3 even sooner.
I'd prefer having difficult Paths than just a laundry list. But right now we don't have either.
Edit: And as for your ent.. we meant maybe your ent is a homunculi. A homunculi is like a golem. Your ent kind of seems golem (made out of different pieces)-ish, so it might be considered a homunculi.

If somebody declared that, you'd be hard-pressed to find a way to prove I knew about that - could I ask you exactly who told you that? I'm pretty confident in Aiyana and I know she designs good advancement systems - requiring GR3 to join one is a catch 22. I'd rather a clear cut way to earn GR3 not exist and be based entirely on merit and dedication to utterly remove the possibility of alts screwing the guild.

Xypher said earlier, after someone asked him to join his Path, that he was tired of telling people, so he was going to say it one more time. That Aiyana said that you had to be GR3 to join a path, and that she was going to have a list of tasks up to soon to get to GR3.
I don't like that idea either, but that's just what was shouted over GT.

Something is wrong with that and I'll investigate, but my opinion still stands that giving people a way to gain the rank easily is in no way an intelligent idea.

I'm not asking for anything easy. I have no problem working for it. I just like having something to work towards.
Saying "Just be dedicated to the guild." leads to people getting overlooked or out-cliqued, so I think there needs to be some "reach this point to earn a favor", but by no means does it need to be simple or easy.
And I have no idea why I'm letting the situation annoy me.
Gregori2010-07-04 02:50:38
Or maybe the reason it's not up yet is because it's not an easy mode to gr3 and takes work to sort out something fair but difficult. This doesn't change the fact that you can get GR3 without the system and I know for a fact people are being favoured. Wonder how they are pulling that off without an advancement system.

I bet it helps that a whole bunch of people are family/friends/OOC buddies.
And if it isn't easy-mode GR3.. why put it before the Paths that are more likely to be interesting to everyone?

I think leaving earning rank ambiguous to a point is a perfectly acceptable practice in this situation - but I'm VERY paranoid about fleshpots after dealing with oldschool facets of the MC in Achaea, amongst other catastrophes of similar systems. I can understand the upset coming from being out-cliqued or overlooked, but if you wanna avoid that, you're looking for the wrong set of games. IRE is all about cliques - there's no true enforcement of any path system except the whim of any given leader or owner of it (outside of issues on the highest cases of harassment). On a total example.. if I decided I didn't like your character and was in a position of power over you, it wouldn't take much to prevent you from ever ENTERING a path system - or perhaps being hung up on a particularly ambiguous requirement (the IRE version of losing your paperwork somewhere in the system). Of course, that's all hypothetical - the last thing I want to do is inhibit the growth of the guild.

That's pretty standard... you get your gr3, become a full member, welcomed into the 'full secrets' of the guild and your Path. It's called having something to work for.

..except that the Pathways are the paths towards those secrets. That's the whole point. The pathways to enlightenment.

Who are you to say that? What if the secrets are given to higher rank Illuminati in bits and pieces? What if the pathways are different interpretations of the truths given to them? It could be any number of things, it doesn't have to be "the pathways result in a reward".

So... all that means is until you are a full member you are an Initiate of blah.. when you become a full member you become fully accepted by that path... holy crap... that might be... RP!

So.. before you're a full member.. you're an Initiate of Whispers. And then you become a full member and are a full part of the Path of Whispers.. but to be an Initiate of it, you're already on it.
Gregori2010-07-04 03:06:18
Yes... you have mechanically accepted the path of Whispers, that doesn't mean you are a master of Whispers or that those who lead/are full members of the RP/Guild path have accepted you yet. It just means that you know the basics. Bravo! Have a cookie!
In order to become a lawyer I have to graduate law school I don't instantly get to go to court and defend people because I passed one class.
