So what paths in the Illuminati has everyone taken? I'm considering moving Lucan there and want to know if anyone's taken the Transformation path. If not... well, I wouldn't mind helping with some of the RP behind it if I get him there. It seems like most people go Gnosis though.
Rodngar2010-07-04 03:10:03
Transformation is (not garbage) not as good as Gnosis for PK, ironically. Gnosis is probably the best all around.
EDIT: I can see maybe permanent fangs + scaled lips, but I've decided I'm not going to use the fangs too much and may not even use the flesh to transform it unless I find that it somehow is lifesaving (and according to numbers I got from letting Kalin chew me up, it isn't looking that way).

I know people are on psychedelic, gnosis, whispers, manipulation. I am not sure of the other Paths.
Edit:: IMHO stable aura should have gone in Transformation and something else into Gnosis.
Reason for this being, that Transformation is the warrior path and as far as PK is concerned 2 auras are better than 1, which while maybe stable makes sense from an RP point of view, will make gnosis the mechanical choice for warriors and completely mess the RP up... cause everyone knows that PKers can't RP.

I will most likely be moving Lucan soon then.

Question: can we have pathways for Harmonics?
(Also, need ideas in this regard, since I'm envoying it anyway and you can't stop me.)

I think our different types of wands are the closest we get. I'm not sure how much sense pathways would have for harmonics...
That said... maybe methodologies or the like regarding how they approach their experimentation?

And just so it is clear, TVtropes used Unobtainium long before Avatar.
TVtropes doesn't really invent things, just reflect them.

Since the late 1950s, aerospace engineers have used the term unobtainium when referring to unusual or costly materials, or when theoretically considering a material perfect for their needs in all respects, except that it does not exist.

I was thinking more along the lines of philosophical focus.
Logic (combat/security),
Metaphysics (RP/scientist),
Epistemology (teachers/secretaries),
Ethics (leaders/politics),
Aesthetics (art/influence).

Why must every guild have a complicated or simple grocery list of tasks to achieve rank? As far as I'm concerned, rank should be hard to gain in the Illuminati and paths should not exist as defined sets of simple tasks to gain it - because frankly, by giving you rank three, I am trusting you with the health and safety of the fleshpots. I for one (and I'm sure the GM and GA will agree) will refuse to give that trust lightly and that is that. I'm already uncomfortable with a handful of people being grandfathered in to be allowed to handle the fleshpots as it is.
I don't agree. When you leave people entirely to their own devices, free-form accomplishments just don't happen as much. I agree with you that beyond a certain point, you don't need tasks to be set in stone, like reach level 21, or buy 5 vials. But having a framework is important.
In the Lusternian system, you don't need to worry about people running off with class, so there's no need to guard it. There are 20 guild ranks, so why not use them? Beyond the lowest ranks, it takes lots of favours to gain a rank, so why not hand out favours freely? I bet you could get a favour each week for a year and not reach guild rank 19 or 20.
Noola2010-07-04 07:05:05
Yeah, I'm not a fan of keeping people out of ranks. In fact, I'm gonna go ahead and side against it.
One of the things that makes Lusternia better than the other IRE games is that it is actually possible to get guildranks here. Take a look at the 'what makes this game great' thread and you'll see people raving about the fact that in the other games they never got guildfavors. It isn't like that here and I don't think it should be.

^ This. I think it's a good practice to give out favours. For that matter, I like to use mine as often as possible if I can find ways to, now that I have the ability to city and guildfavour. This is the very first game too where I've gotten to CR6! I never got above CR2 or 3 on Achaea, and I was a damn good Mhaldorian (just didn't fight ).
Shamarah2010-07-04 07:14:25
Why does it even matter? Guild ranks do practically nothing. I don't get why everyone cares about them. The only important ranks are cityrank and orderrank.

By 'do something' you mean villages and fighting? Well, just cause something doesn't 'do' anything doesn't mean that it's not worthy. I like guildranks because it's a concrete proof that the work my character has done has been noticed, appreciated and rewarded.
Some folks don't think things are worthless just cause you can't use them to kill someone or win a village.
Shamarah2010-07-04 07:24:10
I just don't see why it matters how hard it is to gain guildrank when you don't actually need that rank for anything. If the Aquamancers decide you can get GR3 by clapping your hands and the Institute decides you need to write a dissertation for it, what's the big deal? These two guilds have just decided that GR3 means something different to them. Since the guildrank doesn't actually do anything, it really doesn't affect you at all unless you just like the way the number 3 looks next to your name in GWHO or something. There's no need to pay attention to your guild's totally arbitrary ranking system when it isn't actually good for anything beyond totally arbitrary bragging rights.

Which is one reason why some people would be determined to make gaining GR3 difficult, while also giving it out like candy to their clique/family members.

I've never understood this. I've always given equal treatment to everyone, family or not.
I will admit, I've accepted bribes, but I've never done anything with them. I was bribed with food by someone who wanted their manse connected for free. I happily accepted the food, then told them they would have to donate the 250 power necessary for their city rank.

Aeromancers have the philosophical focus now. You've got the Scientific Method.
Also, remember to keep the discussion clean.
