Just combine the pearl/bloodstone rings to a chromatic ring or whatnot, and make it resist all elemental movements.
Lendren2009-12-29 13:59:34
I like that. Even if it costs a lot more than a single ring. But I strongly suspect they'll keep selling us this stuff a la carte and make us pay for the new functions.

Great idea!
Unknown2009-12-29 20:23:49
If they did combine them (and remove the a la carte option), would I get a full refund for my rings?
Lawliet2009-12-29 20:31:35
They wouldn't, they'd keep the four options but offer an upgrade to the better ring.
Lawliet2010-01-11 20:00:33
Uh, not sure what'd it look like but have the idea of an artifact that tells you who sent a letter, maybe being able to trace it's history if it's been sent more than once, too, that'd be good.

That'd be awesome. A mini-forensics kit or some such.

CSI: Lusternia?
I'd like to see something that cut comm usage for trade skills. Robes and splendours are really a killer, and the amount you get back when you use shears in particular is a total joke (19 out of 90 silk? Really?).
Unknown2010-01-12 22:01:58
Nah, then you'd be able to charge half as much as anyone else for the finished product. And it would devalue commodities, and therefore villages, across the board.

Perhaps it's that I very, very strongly regret my choice to purchase the tailoring shears, because in practice they seem to be a total joke. I really wish I'd bugged some tailors about it before I'd made the purchase.
Of course, now it's too late and I'll be out 100 credits if I trade them in.

Slash the number of people allowed on a shop allies list, an introduce and artifact that increases that number.
(Seriously I could work for you guys. How does $5.50 an hour sound?)

So the talk about 1-1 Domoth fights got me thinking.
-----
dueling dagger
you may TOSS DAGGER at a target (shield, DF, peaced rooms, etc stop this) which will cause both you and the target to be transported to a planar pocket (anything that stops a cubix type device will prevent this, i.e. mono). Once inside you will fight to the death and no outside intervention is allowed. If after 10 min neither of you are dead the result is a draw.
The victor (or both in the case of a draw) will be transported back to the initial location the dagger was used, as will the losers corpse. Any other dropped items are lost. A death in the pocket will be treated as if it occurred in the initial room for purposes of xp/essence loss. A unique deathsight message will be displayed: "X has been slain by Y in single handed combat"
This pocket will be a copy of a random arena.
-----
So is this abusable? Would it be annoying? Would anyone want such a thing?
I am not sure how difficult this would be to implement either but it seems like you could modify the existing arena code to save on time.
Edited to add: I am not sure if there should be a status reset (full heal/cure) when transported in or not, either way seems to have abuse potential

Rika2010-01-21 00:25:52
So many ways to abuse this. And what's stopping people from just "duelling" everyone they can kill?

Name an abuse, I am being honest here, I am not a huge fighter so I would miss anything not super obvious.
It would need to have some kind of cooldown, perhaps usable once per in game day?

Friend is in trouble. I go and "duel" them. Safe for 10 minutes.

Let's say... Glomdoring goes after your group in an event or some such. Sojiro has a dagger. He tosses the dagger to your mage... who suddenly is now no longer in their demesne (or even in the area). Demesne effects are instantly dead. Person has to drop their demesne and meld and then put up effects while Sojiro is nomming on them.
And then you have the people who don't even want to be involved in this junk, heh.

It would let any griefer kill anyone they caught off-plane or in enemy territory that was less skilled/artied/whatever than them, with absolutely no way to escape. There would be no use for it except abuse.
What Rika said is possible, though there's plenty of simpler ways to stay safe. A worse problem would be using it and then purposely making the fight drag out for the full ten minutes to keep them trapped - use it on an enemy mage, as Xenthos said, or their biggest combatant. Throw one at Shuyin, for example, and sit there doing nothing but spamming shield and curing.

It would remove both of you from combat so it seems like a fair trade off to me.

Ah yes, this is clearly something that would not work. I can't think of any way to modify it to prevent this either.

You would have an entire arena to escape in. Though I could see this getting annoying so perhaps once a game day is still too much.
But I guess this is a moot point with Xenthos' scenario. Oh well!

There are plenty of arenas people can use for sparring. Dueling is just something kids do to add more risk and make it exciting, but there's also the chance it goes awry and the "rules" are broken. Heh.
