I still don't understand why we're seeing no grapple release message - it was happening to Vey aswell.
It also seems odd to me that the damage should be more if the target is prone before the form hits. Either I'm wrong and the grapple doesn't count as prone for calculating its own damage, or the 50% bonus is being applied twice - once for prone and once for grapple.
Thul, you are also not exploiting this enough. Kick first for more wounds and use a pinchnerve mod to increase the chance of them being prone before the grapple hits.
But yeah. There's a reason just about every other monk attack has a small base damage.

And the double pain / kata strength soft to increase wounding and the chance for pinch nerve to proc (if I'm correct in thinking that basic kata afflictions proc more frequently with higher wounds).
OR get a beast/sprongcree a dart to deliver ibululu and hope you can get your choke (with kata strength hard) to hit before your target has a chance to cure.
Placeus2010-07-15 23:47:39
Pinchnerve is wound dependant, yes. I wouldn't use soft as it will decrease damage, but I would use the power mod for a grieftastic +40% to damage and wounding.
Boosting wounds would only really matter for the first attack as you can guarantee they'll be sipping not applying from then on.

Found this in the wiki under the Ascendance skillset. Guess it might affect it a bit, in terms of difference between Shuyin and Ixion's damage tests.

Also, enemy Mages and Druids will find that the lands are empowered to resist their attempts to break melds of that terrain type if you are within the local area, making it a much more difficult process.

For whatever reason, the Gloms I test this on take significantly less damage. I'm not sure what causes this, and probably won't ever because trying to get a damage formula is like pulling teeth. I wasn't exactly aware of how much damage this thing did until Ixion pulled me aside.
So you can blame the upcoming rampage on him.
So you can blame the upcoming rampage on him.
Or we can say the formula is bugged since no other stand alone does that much and this is the NERFED version? As envoy it is now your job to BUG it properly and if they state it is not a mistake have it corrected through report or whatever you call the "we need this now" report.
@Ixion:
His health has nothing to do with it. Thuls attack is not magic based, it doesnt scale to anything.

Did a forum search for oothai, and here were the results:

Perhaps oothai changes were bug, and consequently were never really changed? Only speculation.

Looks like there things were mentioned one year ago. . . and then nothing. Guess using oothai and choke attacks went out of fashoin for Nekotai monks, otherwise I'm sure we would have heard something in the interim.

It does, actually, to some extent. I did more damage to Sidd when he had surge up than when he had of it off, though you might blame that on the kick. But the kick isn't magic either!

If attacks didn't, people with 10k health would be nigh unkillable, since healing does scale.
Felicia2010-07-16 22:52:32
What's the point of having high CON and a high HP total if attacks scale to your HP anyway? Other than for hunting?
Is it only a partial scaling?

Its only partially scaling. Things that can 1/2 shot you at 2k health aren't going to do that at 8k health.

Because the range of possible HP values at demigod is something like 4k to 12k, depending on race, class, and buffs. If attacks didn't scale, you'd either two shot the low end, or never scratch the high end. It's a certain base value plus a percentage to get the best you can of both worlds. Lower health people will take a larger percentage of their total with each attack because the base value of the attack is a larger percentage of their health, but it still hurts higher health people enough to be worthwhile.
Felicia2010-07-17 01:21:01
That's pretty much what I figured, since full scaling would render high CON and HP nigh-useless in combat.
Thanks for confirming.

NEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEECRO!!!
But it's in the spirit of the thread, and you haven't seen anything yet. Check this out:
Which is weird, because it seems to have done vastly different amounts of damage to different people. I think Talan said it did 3600 damage to her. Is pollute's formula still broken?
I was a human, for the record.

Without knowing -anything-, it looks like you were missing some key defenses/DMP/armour.
It bothers me when people make arguments without the full picture, or at least as much of the picture they can find.

Shall we bring in the sketch artists?
Pollute is pretty good. I don't know its composition anymore. Perhaps someone could share. But yes, even with full defs, it does a nice chunk of damage.

I was fully deffed. Garb and everything. No divine favours, however.
I may or may not have been sensitive, but there's no way sensitivity should account for a 6K damage hit. Most of what was in my buffer had already been eaten up at that point.

Might explain the AB:
The most horrific power of the geomancer is to pollute his or her entire demesne with the full blight of the tainted earth, especially at monks. Fissures will open up throughout your demesne and release toxic fumes that will seek out your personal enemies, especially those kata-flinging jackasses, and coat their skin with flesh-stripping poison! You must wield your staff and be at full mana to invoke such a spectacle.
