2010/10/18 05:49:02 - The Crystal Sculpture of Harmony has been destroyed!

Yep.

Not as bad as the time in Magnagora when Vashner forgot about funding, though. Not even close.

I think everyone's had that happen at one time or another.

I know Glomdoring's never accidentally lost a Construct; pretty sure Serenwilde hasn't either.

It's harder now, fewer constructs means less drain.

Do the castes of Hallifax have any identifying symbol or emblem associated with each of them?

(inb4 communism)

Not that I know of, but that would be cool.
Nydekion2010-10-20 02:16:49
I don't. tongue.gif Though aetherbattles were pretty sweet.
Ileein2010-10-20 02:40:00
No, but they're easy enough to make up.

Inspire me. sad.gif All I can come up with is either cliche'd, unfitting, overall lame or lacking in dignity.
Ileein2010-10-20 03:01:34
Ok, well, what you need to think is the kind of inspiring mural you'd see in Soviet Russia. The kind that is entitled something horribly verbose and inspiring in a sickening sort of way, like "The Spirit of Industry Inspiring the Enslaved Workers of the World to Throw Off their Chains and Bring About Prosperity for All Through Communism."

Now that you're in the mood, try to think of what a member of each caste would be holding in one of these ideologically-induced-heart-attack-causing murals:

Servant: Hammer (He can be holding it aloft, ready to bang it down on something, because When The Collective Has Seen Fit To Provide You With Only A Hammering Device, The Problem Which Confronts You Must, According To The Incontrovertible Wisdom Of The Collective, Be A Nail)
Bureaucrat: Quill (Really not sure about this one. Maybe he can be recording something and looking incongruously heroic)
(Warrior): Sword (Make this one look like a Sentinel, poofy pants and all)
Merchant: Ledger (Or a bag of gold, which he can then be holding up in offering to the Spirit of Collectivism, as represented by a sort of glowy Cririk Adom)
Scientist: Beaker (He can be looking at it and looking all kinds of sagacious and brilliant)
Artist: Paintbrush (She can be holding it aloft, where it is radiating the sort of glow which is either symbolic of The Light of Artistic Culture Which Leads The Collective To New Heights of Prosperity or the sort of radiation which causes cancer in pigs, your choice)

Tada! One ideologically-induced-heart-attack-causing mural, and some lovely symbols to derive from it. I might even get this added to Hallifax for the sheer joy of seeing it there.

EDIT: Maybe it's my faintly fatigue-euphoric mood, but there's a certain perverse joy to be had from taking something relentlessly cliche and lacking in dignity and treating it in a deadly serious manner. I'm convinced that's where much of Hallifax's appeal comes from.

I honestly was trying to avoid the In Soviet Russia trope, hence the roadblock of 'not dignified enough'. I don't think servants in Hallifax really carry hammers with them, either... usually just the crystal-shapers, which is more art than anything.
Ileein2010-10-20 03:12:51
No no no no. Glory in the tropes available to you. They are a glorious tool which you can use to have a little fun while you are roleplaying; I manage to pull it off somehow.

Though if you really want to be serious and avoid all Soviet Russia tropes, try these:

Servant: A bag, presumably of gems
Bureaucrat: A crystal tablet
(Warrior): A halberd with those funny little ceremonial ribbons on them
Merchant: A ledger
Scientist: A temporal mandala (This could also be used for Artist, in which case you'd have to use something else. Crossed crystal staff and wand, maybe?)
Artist: A crystal sculpture of some sort

He's always like that.

Failing that, I don't think a chisel would be out of place for servants.
Lilia2010-10-20 03:31:13
There are murals, carvings, statues, etc. scattered around the city that depict these sorts of scenes. They might use the types of symbols you're looking for.

So, I spent 4 hours in my manse cutting gems, after i am done, putting them all in my rift and all that, I notice a mysterious key in my inventory.

an ice key
This key is fashioned from a block of solid ice. The handle of the key is shaped like a snowflake. A magical aura prevents it from melting.
It weighs 5 ounce(s).

and even key list is weird with it:

Key #179542 unlocks the door(s) between:

"Storeroom" and "Nevyn's Curios"
Key #202397 unlocks the door(s) between:
the lid to an engraved platinum chest.
Key #262725 unlocks the door(s) between:
the lid to an elegant iron-banded chest of forest green.
Key #262734 unlocks the door(s) between:
the lid to a cozy moonhart dresser.
Key #146623 is a mystery.

anyone have any clue?

Did they happen to be a cluster of gems numbering in the 5,000 or so?

That's the key that was used in the recent event that unlocked Talthos. It was probably tied directly to those clusters (came from the chest the key unlocks), in terms of spawning... or something like that.

I believe so, 3000 gems were give to me to cut and I only just cut the last 2000 tonight so when I ended up with a key, yeah, was confused tongue.gif so it is pretty much useless then now then. thanks!

So much for people saying 'Mag stole the gems'. Apparently Estwald did for himself. wtf.gif

The plan is to one day design/customise a pair of hammers for myself in this vein, to better hammer harmony and order into people...
