Greetings, Wilde.
A lot has gone on this month, and not much of it did us any good, so
check at CHELP VERSES for the update we can make use of. Nonetheless,
I'll catalogue the rest here so we don't spend all month people asking
"what happened with the poles" and "did you get the plinths right".
After waking up to hear about lots of nonsense in the seas and an
eruption of Mount Zoaka, I came out of my manse to observe violent jets
of water and plumes of smoke from the Sea of Despair. Since Lehki said
it'd been more aggravated than previous phenomena there, I went into
despair and at its depths discovered a new passage out. In it we
discovered an insane geomancer team and an aquamancer team, both having
been trapped down there for ages (how long, I'm not sure.) At this point
Magnagora started gathering, and were starting to form a demesne when
Avechna, in a spasm of indecision, decided to temporarily forget about
the place. After some disorganisation and various people running around
not doing much, we stormed the Magnadoran team and wiped them out,
allowing us to get on with things.
The sane, but annoying, aquamancer scientist there insisted that to
solve the problems with the dreaming, which were relevant to the Basin,
we had to empower a disc she gave to me. After finding some crystalline
fish under the Starry Sea and capturing them, we used those to empower
the disc, allowing us to open a portal to an artificial area bordered by
four portals (two in the tunnels) located on the Ethereal called the
Crystal Meadow. In it were a variety of rather Xion-like plinths and
panels which Sarrasri and later Nydekion slowly set about organising
into the correct position to open a further gate. This seems to have led
onto an undiscovered area of the Water plane, known as the glacial sea.
In it dwell ice golems and slush elementals, on a shifting frozen ocean.
(My conjecture is that the last portal leads to some other area of the
Earth plane.) The annoying aquamancer's annoying assistants insisted we
get hold of an icepick to dig out something under the ice, with the
intent of dislodging a figure frozen in a glacier. As ominous as that
sounded we decided to press on for better ideas, Shric eventually
managing to procure a pick from a confused igasho who was simultaneously
telling us that he wouldn't give the valuable picks to outsiders.
Shric and Xiel then began digging up and erecting various poles that
were apparently buried under the ice. For no obvious reason earth
elementals began dropping out of the sky and assaulting these rods,
causing the annoying aquamancer subordinates to yell at us to kill them.
We spread out to do that, since earth elementals are rarely good news
anyway, but for no obvious reason (again) Sarye, the Lady off the Black
Tide and apparently a lost Tide Lord, dashed out from their midst and
tripped onto my shofa, impaling herself and dying pathetically. After
much illogical shouting and complaining from Skerriagh (who had
apparently come back without telling anyone after vanishing recently)
and the merians, we patched her up with a simple infusion of light
essence and she got back on track, complaining about the Earth Lords who
froze her in that glacier. Looking for a power source (variously
suggested were more essence, earth lord bodies and turducken, thank you
Alianna), she decided on the golems, throwing out an arbitrarily high
number for us to gather while she assessed the more reasonable figure
she would end up actually needing. Worth noting is that while she
appears, hmm, brooding and Gloom-like in manner and appearance, she
doesn't seem tainted or otherwise damaged in any way beyond her obvious
maladjustment and badly repressed rage.
After supplying her with these elemental creatures, she decided to turn
into a small rock, demanding that Desitrus return her to the Prime
Material plane. After doing that, and discovering that the rock was
somehow cursed by Geomancers (blowing up Lehki and Raeri), Desitrus
eventually managed to de-hex it, causing her to fly off and harrass the
Earth Plane in some manner. Apparently it has to do with a vortex effect
similar to the city sewers, causing elemental creatures and visitors to
the Earth Plane to be dragged back to Prime. I guess it means the
Magnagorans can't hassle you while you kill their gargoyles after their
Demon Lords die, at least. It probably won't last long so make use of it
while you explore.
One last thing: after Sarye came back to Water, she pointed out the
cause of the bloated starsuckers lately and had us kill a gargantuan one
she called "the hunter." After that, the sore on Avechna's Peak spewed
out more gas-like stuff. The timing of this (the same thing happened
when we fixed the rabies problem, and by all accounts Glomdoring cleared
out its nightmares to similar results) has me wondering. If it's the
same essence as is already leaking out, we're crippling our chances of
fixing this business and Magnagora must be stopped at all costs.
However, given the timing, if it's actually more like Zenos' form being
spewed out from the sore where he was leeching out the essence and
memories of the fulcrux, it might actually help it heal up and let the
Divine recover, meaning we should let Magnagora fiddle with the
conjectured earth plane and get rid of their worm problem. My guess is
that it's the latter, but let's give it due consideration before
deciding either way.
