What's better for a monk, tailoring or bookbinding? I was always a fan of origami, and I think you don't need to wield a magic tome to get the defensive bonus anymore? Also, what's the dmp of a magic tome?
Unknown2011-02-13 14:38:26
I'd say that Tailoring is probably a little better, just for the splendour robes. You could get the magic tome and then switch (or vice versa), so they're not exactly mutually exclusive, just cost prohibitive.

The tome gives you 5 DMP to four damage types, but only one per attack, and that's also currently the only way to charge them up.
Unknown2011-02-13 15:39:17
Oh, so you're hit once and the tome is fully charged and gives no more reduction? I was assuming it gave one charge per attack, and always gave the DMP tongue.gif

You assumed correctly.

Once upon a time it did not absorb the damage if it was full of charges for that type, though, but that was silly (and got changed).

DespairWeb in Necroscream increases them for undeaf enemies
SpiderLegs in Shadowbeat decreases (halves) them for undeaf allies
Astrology spheres can increase/decrease them, I think

EDIT: The first two at least only affect entangles, though, not impales.

It is -1 second, not half.

Ah, thanks guys.
I meant more like what affects base writhe times though. Is it based on a particular stat or attribute? Is it more or less the same across all races and classes (obviously ignoring skills like contort)?

-Does the writhe time for impales, entanglements and grapples vary?
-Is writhe time consistent, or does it vary slightly every time?
-Just out of random curiosity, how much faster is contort than a regular writhe?

I also have a question about trueshield. Can someone give me an idea of just how much added protection is given to the affected body parts? Also, is there anything that nullifies trueshield? (like being proned, for example?).

If a bard has auric afflictions on you, and you're unable to cure them due to octave, does this also affect curing due to power cures like gedulah?

Lets be totally honest here, there are a -lot- of people that will do that with skillflex just because it would be marginally useful.

An enchanter can charge the tome too, one charge at a time. Which takes forever, but it's doable. Only way it can't be charged is from a cube, eh? At least, an enchanter could charge it awhile ago. I haven't charged mine in forever.
Unknown2011-02-13 16:44:04
Ah, I did forget that enchanters could recharge the tomes. (Haven't needed an enchanter for a long, long time.)

Yes, people will skillflex Bookbinding just to get the tome, but only those with disposable credits. It's nice to learn more languages, too.

Hey, does anyone remember last ascension (Where Ceren got ascended), wasn't there an update straight after that said the seals from any older ascensions wouldn't kill kethuru mobs during any current ascensions?

I only bring it up because I swear Fillins war seal was killing stuff this time.

I believe forms of prone nullify trueshield, as well as that arm being crippled or off?

Octave only prohibits you from curing them via horehound, I think there was actually a report on this a little while ago that asked for aurics to not be curable under Octave by things like gedulah and sweetfount.

Edit: I was half-right about the report. Report 506.

Has anyone actually completed the lovelorn thing? A reward was mentioned, and since I'm motivated entirely by greed, I'd like to know what the reward is.

Edit: Ok, that takes a LOT of letters. But to answer my own question, you get a few dingbats.

I went with tailoring... there's so few public splendour patterns though, and there don't appear to be any splendour hats. Anyone know of any good cartels that are accepting people and which have splendour hat patterns?
Shamarah2011-02-13 19:03:49
Huh? There's no such thing as "splendour hats" to my knowledge, all splendor designs are robes (all of which have hoods).

Splendor: robes .............. 200+
Splendor: gown ............... 150+
Splendor: suit ............... 150+
Splendor: hat ................ 50+
Shamarah2011-02-13 19:10:38
Woah. TIL.

Not sure why you would want them though?
Ileein2011-02-13 19:12:12
...For the same reason you'd want hats to go with greatrobe suits? For head protection?
Unknown2011-02-13 19:19:39
There's a public suit but no hat to go with it, weep. And the Mag tailoring cartel doesn't have a single splendour outfit, which is kind of fail.
Calixa2011-02-13 19:56:37
Does quicksilver increased chance to be missed by melee attacks work against mobs or only players? And does it get stripped when avoiding one, or is it only stripped upon an aeon hit?

Probably because people who are able to make splendour outfits usually ask people with private cartels to put the designs in there. This is for all the exclusivity that people want. I know this is the case for people who requested stuff from me anyway, and I wub.gif my personal splendour gray suit and hat.
Unknown2011-02-13 20:32:51
Quicksilver does nothing against mobs, and you'll know when it's stripped.
