I've always wondered... Communes get power from totems (and a rather substantial amount at that); do cities gain power from statues as well?

I don't believe that help file is valid because as demonstrated, it has missing information. 'less effective' is undefined, and it doesn't address the general question mark around the skill when as demonstrated, there are way more efficient ways to get around a wall... hence my comment of a filler skill.
I'm not an envoy to be suggesting things, and well, I have little reason to believe you that suggesting changes is effective from the opinion I've gathered in my half a year here.
Thanks for clarifying, that'd be all!

What's the order of mob strength again? e.g. weak and feeble all the way to god-like power?

As for Gust, it's not a summoning ability, thus magical anti-summoning defenses won't affect the physical movement.
Are you sure? It seemed very much like defences advertised as granting summons protection were providing a chance to block Transmology's gust.

QUOTE ("4.18.1 THE CONSIDER COMMAND)
Can you fight a denizen (npc) and survive? Use the CONSIDER command to help you
make an educated guess!
CONSIDER will compare your might, which is a rough comparison of
how many lessons you have spent in learning skills.
CONSIDER gives a general idea of the power of the denizen. For
example, CONSIDER rat might say "A rat is quite powerful."
NOTE: this is not how powerful the denizen is relative to you. This is on an
absolute scale.
The messages you may see when you type the consider command for a denizen, in
order from strongest to weakest, are:
almost glows with nearly god-like power
does not even register your presence as a threat
exudes an aura of overwhelming power
has an air of extreme strength
looks to be crushingly strong
appears to be extraordinarily strong
is quite powerful
is not one to be trifled with
seems strong and confident
exudes a quiet confidence
seems to be unafraid
appears to lack strength
does not look particularly dangerous
is a humble-looking creature
looks relatively helpless
looks weak and feeble
make an educated guess!

no, but as tradeoff enchanted statues can be placed in any -outside- urban area (eg poor largerly indoor hallifax!) while totems need to be in your forest territory (I think, at least I don't see totems on etherwilde)
Oh also tradeskill VS guildskill
And statues do not revert but do need maintenance
Think I got it all now

Okay... Can anyone explain how this happened?
Before you blame it on hibernation, it didn't blow away immediately upon the shift of days as they normally do but rather when I harvested it, nor is it the hibernation month for Arnica yet for five months. It looks like six plants just... disappeared.

Statues can also be put up instantly (though the enchanting does take time, just putting them up does not). Totems must be grown over the course of RL days. Interfering with this growing is absurdly easy for anyone who wishes to (since there is no totem or statue in the room where they are growing, for obvious reasons). All statues can fire, while only a bonded totem can fire (and only one person can be bonded to a totem).
Essentially, totems are far far more limited and annoying to deal with than statues, especially if someone feels like griefing them; so they produce power so as to be an incentive to actually create and maintain the things, I guess.

If there's less than ten plants in the room, sometimes they just die.

Which is why, on my herbalist character, I only ever take it below 10 on peak days, harvesting to 5 and planting 5 in empty rooms. Every other day, I leave 10.

Never seen it happen before, and I often harvest to 5 (and in rare cases keep them at 5 for half a month, if I need the herbs badly). And it didn't die on the day change either, but just as I harvested it... Never had plants disappear on me when I plant just one per room right after hibernation either. How often do they just disappear?

I've never tested it, I just know that if herbs are low, they have a chance to just die on harvesting. I've seen it a crapload on kombu mostly, or sargassum.

Pretty much touching an herb on its dormant month carries a (low) chance of the herb blowing away, no matter how many there are. They only disappear in a meld or on their dormant months, though, and it's impossible to plant during dormancy.
It's still a shock when you run into it. I remember the first time it happened to me. "60 myrtle! Yay!" *harvest myrtle* "...crap." Not that I don't still bypass Treant's no-harvesting-in-hibernation rule from time to time, but it's worth knowing the risk.

That's the thing, it isn't Arnicas hibernation (in fact, I replanted it right afterwards). I never harvest during hibernation. Didn't know the thing about them going poof in melds though... Does that apply to all kinds of melds, or only the elemental melds?

You're definitely one of my fav admins, Evepuff, so that wasn't directed at you. All in all, I think the admin here do a good job when it comes to RP-related stuff.
However, mechanics sometimes tend to bug me.
Unknown2010-08-03 20:21:34
It applies to non-forest melds, so ethereal forest and wyrden forest shouldn't hurt the herbs. Also, I think the herbs are diminished both the month before and the month after the hibernation. The cycle is more of a curve than steps (or curved steps?).

I'm considering going for a lesser rune of demesnes, or going for a full set of arti pipes.
