enemying for defending

Why all the fuss over enemy status anyways? If they're org is opposed to your org, I'd expect the enemying to happen eventually. I mean, Serenwilde is Glomdoring's enemy... ergo every person belonging to Serenwilde is an enemy to Glomdoring, whether someone has twiddled that bit or not mechanically.

But... why does anyone care? Just because it brings an e-tear to your eye to have your name on someone's enemy roster?

Not trying to be snarky, I really don't get it. Sure, it effects some things mechanically. ICly, defending may simply be the first time you've been particularly noticed as an enemy.

You -did- work with the enemy in defense. It's not like if I the US raided France, and Germany came and helped them, we'd be all buddy buddy with Germany. They'd be our enemies.

I don't see what the problem here is? If nothing else, it means you've been noticed! You're important enough to list! If you don't want to be noticed/listed... don't put yourself on the other side of the battle lines, medic or combatant. Then you won't be noticed, or listed.

I don't think the enemy status per se is the problem, but rather that some people see enemy status as free PK (granted, only a few in each org, but still).

Thank you. I'm glad someone gets it. Was starting to wonder if I had been speaking Greek this whole time or something.

But... these are the same people, who by that reckoning, are going to find an excuse to kill you anyways.

Griefers grief. It's what they do. It's who they are. They don't need the enemy stamp on you beforehand... if they decide they wanna kill you, they'll find a way to make it happen...

If the point really is "Griefers make me sad mmmkay" then we should get the thread name changed... being enemied for defending makes perfect sense. Heck, someone in Serenwilde killing someone from Glomdoring makes perfect sense (and yes, vice versa). Yes, a-hats will be a-hats...

do we need another "gosh people are a-hats" thread, really?

EDIT: I think I might have cursed... trying to be good.

Aubrey was so new when he jumped her, she didn't even know about vitae yet. I kid you not. sleep.gif But yeah this isn't about me actually. Like I said, Aubrey dealt with it. I just see it happen all the time to other people. But I can give you a list of names if you want. tongue.gif Not that it makes much difference or answers the question of why.

I couldn't figure out how to word this properly until just now when I went afk for a few and this analogy hit me: You said "well the orgs are at war, what do you expect" right? Except in war, at least RL war (yes I know it's not exactly the same, but for the sake of making my point), the armies don't go around killing civilians. In fact that's looked down upon or downright forbidden. Especially in neutral ground. It's one thing going back and forth and bombing each other's countries, but for example if you're American and you go visit France, and America and Germany were at war, you wouldn't expect German military to come in and kill you in France, right? That's what this feels like to me. Aubrey is an example of a civilian - a pacifist one at that, and very new when this happened. For an arti'd nearly omnitrans demigod to come kill a level 55 not-even-one-trans veritable newbie on neutral ground... "The orgs are at war" just sounds like a lame excuse. Unless Glom were RPing an org like the Taliban or something, like Lusternia's version of terrorists. But they're not, so... yeah... gotta go with Shaddus's original reply. sad.gif Thanks everyone for helping answer my question!

Hi, my grandfathers fought in WWII and my family relocated to Kazakhstan to flee the advancing Nazi invasion. Your idea of what a war is a joke and I consider it very insulting that you compare it to that to the virtual entertainment of now.

Would you like me to clear up your idea of what a war is? Because if no, you better not talk about it ever again like that.

Hi. My greatgrandparents fled from both Nazi and Russian advances during WW2 as a result of being both polish, socialist, and -just- enough jew to make everyone hate us. My family -still- knows how to perform LINE, and up untill 10 years ago, was a shining example of what "wealth" isn't. Please use your outrage sparingly. It's not worth getting worked up on the internet, especially when Aubrey is in fact correct as far as International Law is concerned.

Although as far as many of the countries waging war are concerned, International Law is a joke.

Holy crap! The thread was liched and Godwin'd at the same time! Run!

...actually, I'm sorta impressed you managed both at once.

Edit: Oh fine, image changed. Fortunately, the interwebs are full of zombies, nazis, and nazi zombies.

Giant Bitmap. HUUUGE Bitmap. Bitmap so big that it doesn't fit on a 1900x1640 screen O.o

Hi. I've actually been in the army for a time.

And yes, Aubrey. It's messed up, and I sure wish the Geneva Convention or something similar applied to Lusternia. However, there's no real way to flag "combatant" as opposed to "non-combatant", and some people just don't care, they just kill people like you to censor.gif with your org. It's retarded, but true.

Thanks for a post that has zero relevance to the point made in regards to Aubreys naiveness. Good to know you have history, though, but keep it on-topic, not on tangents.

I could've sworn that this thread was dead. Like...a while ago.

Hi, my ex-wife's great grandfather singlehandedly captured 23 nazi's and marched them 10 miles back across enemy lines with an empty rifle on the same day his first daughter was born. Are we done telling war stories about a war we were all never part of and pretending we know the atrocities of war?

in before lock.
Noola2010-08-12 20:08:05
My grandfather was in the Korean War!
Eventru2010-08-12 20:12:47
My cousin just got home from Iraq!

Let's end this thread on a positive note.
