Yeah, there was a week there where I finally started to win the debate-jumpings from Kelysa and Asmodea, and I proceeded to strut around Faethorn like a total badass, binding mah faez and nomming on honeycakes. And then Lehki was like, oh good, you can debate now - here, try my meld. And the, "What do you want, I'm a dick" remark. Ah, newbiehood. These wounds will never heal.
I got killed enough times as a non-com noob by Urazial and Daedalion for influencing fae, Faethorn never really seemed like a peaceful place to me. If I'm recalling the right incident, my line of thought was pretty much 'why is she debating me? wtf?'. I really don't think anybody had ever tried that on me to interrupt fae gathering before.

P.S. Guildfavour Mnemo plz. I know some of you Moonies are reading this!

Yeah, I used to debate with Lekius all the time, and it took me a long while to realize you were two different people!

We hate this guy. Lately he is the number one reason why people will stop what they are doing and pile into Faethorn/Etherwilde - for the chance to kill Veyrzhul. We think of him as we did Tedd, a topic that is already covered in this thread. He is your Daedalion... a combatant that you need, yes, but one who will invariably deliver more fighting to your doorstep than he ever staves off. For us, getting rid of people like this was part of the solution. I'm not making the same suggestion to you, as he'll likely just be back in Celest in a few weeks anyway, but uh, don't put your eggs in his basket, is all I'm saying.
You should lean back for a moment and ask yourselves why. Is it the 'off hour' raids around 4 am your time (that's late morning - early afternoon my time) after 'literally waiting for Shuyin and Krellan to log off' (when I actually didn't scry either of them even once that day)? Or is it my 'mind of a child' (Urazial quote) when I log on, he has a colour maelstrom at backwards going and is waiting for people, and when I attack him, I get the funniest 'Go on with your actions and your commune members will have to suffer the consequences.' (approximate quote) tell, followed by 'Let's see if you can protect the weak of your commune.' (not verbatim, either) when I continue to attack him. Or maybe attacking Vadi on Water (who has helped raiding Etherwilde countless times)? Or is it those additional 3-9 domoth mobs you gotta kill when I happen to find and start claiming that crown earlier than you? You tell me.
Furien2010-07-20 19:41:12
Strangely, back when I really started picking up combat (SS Sleepwhore Days) Daedalion was probably my biggest inspiration to keep learning, because nothing beat that surge of pride I'd get when he's jump me on, say, the Gorgog Isle, and I'd turn the fight around, land a custom Bardoon deathsight and get my entire commune cheering me.
(Colossi fights were pretty nice too, if a bit... arduous)

Sorry for bringing this up, about the "snuggling" things.
I raise my hand up and fully admit that Demie does snuggle, but it's people she knows, e.g. Lendren, because Lendren is her parent. And she doesn't do it EVERY five minutes, no every two minutes, because every other thing I see is X snuggles Y, or Z pecks X, Y pounces onto Z etc.
On both Demie and Beldoria, I seem to be a magnet for random people to just pounce/snuggle up to me, and I'm sitting there like wtf are you?
And then today, I did have a go at one of the people at the Moonhart Tree, because he glomped, snuggled and the emoted that he was touching someone's ear. Like come on. There's a place and a time for that sort of thing, and it's not at the forest's nexus, a public place where people do sit and talk, but they don't want to know about your private love-life, which should be done elsewhere, like a manse.
I think one of the problems of Serenwilde is the lack of respect from new/lower people of the commune. When I had a pop at this person, let's call him 'Bob', he turns to me and says that he's a furrikin, and that he's small. He's older than Demie, and she's also a faeling. So how does that work out? Oh, everyone, it's ok to just touch and snuggle anyone you feel like because of your race. I know some of the races have racial traits, sure, but you shouldn't be using them as an excuse when you're getting told off. 'Bob' just brushed off my rebuke as if it was nothing, and I think that's what made me more angry. The fact I asked him to stop, yet, he'll probably just carry on with it another time.
Whereas on Beldoria, you wouldn't -dare- even think about randomly snuggling someone at the Megalith. That's like... a BIG no-no. And you wouldn't back-chat to someone either. You'd get told, and that's it. I think people need to put their foot down in Serenwilde, and tell people when enough is enough, because it seems to be one of the things that's getting out of hand.
There's those of you who say that Serenwilde is getting names like "snugglewilde" or whatever, and at the end of the day, it's you who has let it get like that. Because of certain laws of the Leaves, it seems people have just been left to do what they want, and there's no guidance or rights and wrongs. It seems that newbies get the impression of "hey, it doesn't matter what we do here! Awesome."
I agree with the whole being able to kill members, it might install some fear into people and keep them from stepping a toe out of line, and actually do as they're told.
As for combat, I'm not exactly a combatant. I'll sit in one of the covens to help out now and then, but then again combat isn't for everyone. From what I've seen, there seems to be raids every day, but I always see Glomdoring out to get us, and I never see any of the Serens raiding, (I think I'm awake at the wrong times). And also, I've seen absolute chaos when there is a raid on, though it seems to be looking better now and then. 1, no one seems to know what to do, after several posts. I don't think some people bother to read the news, or don't know -how-. 2, they don't seem to know who is leading. 3, CT is plagued by TARGET, and "Who is leading" and "I'm moving"x10, and I have to turn CT off. People seem to forget the use of Squads...Which are easily made up, and then disbanded.
Jeez, there's lots of reasons I could rant about, but I think I've said enough, and have probably repeated and agreed with a few others. I'm not having a personal stab at anyone in this post, so don't feel offened, I'm just voicing mine and probably a dozen other's opinion.

Sylphas2010-07-20 20:02:38
Coven squads don't even require people to be mutual allies, it's easy.
As for news reading, it's laughable. I've seen people time and again ask for things explained that have been all over the news, because they just don't bother. And I have a really hard time giving a damn about people like that.

I happily headbutt annoying non-seren's from the Nexus out to the road often enough. But I don't feel like stirring up drama until the council gives me permission to start smacking Serens as well. <__<

About that charismatic person able to turn an org around sentence...it's nice and often true, but not always. You can't turn someone around who doesn't want to be turned. Just like no matter how many times I can get all excited and ask for participants in a war game to get to improve their defence, tell people simple instructions to not fail so bad, or bribe others with mountains of honeycakes to join the Shofangi, if they don't want to do it, it's not going to happen. (Although I suggested punishment for Serens like that to IMC and they immediately refused .__.)
I bet Miss Sadie is really charismatic when Sadies tells everybody about Sadie's good days and Sadie's issues in the Shofangi.
QUOTE (Tandrin @ Jul 20 2010, 09:29 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I think folks have identified a lot of how the raids and combat have lowered morale. One thing I didn't see mentioned in this thread was specifically choke. I know personally for myself as well as hearing it from several others, choke is a big reason some give up on being a combatant and one of the biggest roadblocks in becoming a capable combatant.
If not Choke, it'd be aeon spam. Yes, uncurable sucks. But the thing that actually -kills- is the 1 second delay. You know how you call chokers well chokers? All you need is to designate some Moon people to be Waners. less effect, but you do get the same result. In fact the only time I ever see you guys kill anyone is when you have a Waner or a pit. Hence, everyone's move toward tracking. Need to designate roles.
QUOTE (Sylphas @ Jul 20 2010, 11:29 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Lerad, the problem with kicking something to draw out defenders for a fight is that even if you get a nice 1v1 duel, if we win, Glomdoring shows up to pound us for the audacity of doing so. I put up with Svorai diverting fae I was influencing time and again and didn't do anything until she finally set her demesne on me and I killed her. Immediate raid on Serenwilde until I came up to die so they'd stop. We are not allowed to win, even small fights. Sometimes we'll end up killing someone who's been really annoying and is hanging out by himself, but it's a really short lived pleasure.
You're thinking about it wrong. Take pride and satisfaction from the fight that you won. Don't think of it as you're not allowed to win. Think of it as they can't beat you without a zerg. I mean even if they can as long as you don't shout it, you don't have to back it up and you can feel better about that smaller victory.

I honestly wouldn't care if Glom beat Seren into the ground much if they didn't get involved with Mag and Mag didn't get involved with Glom. And likewise with Gaudi. Especially when we try to beat on our designated opposing orgs, i.e. Celest/Halli.
