Without seeing all the details and specifics, this preemptive complaining and conjecturing remains rather pointless.

Just a thought.

Yes, we can start the complaints thread AFTER we see what it's going to be like.

You take those 'thoughts' and you take them else where.

Your logic has no place in these walls, move along.

If I ever decide to buy a gun, I'm totally painting it with fluffy rainbows.

eta: But that's got nothin to do with this. Sylphas just made me want a rainbow gun IRL, is all! laugh.gif

Not exactly rainbows, but Hello Kitty was the best I could find. tongue.gif

Words cannot express my hatred for that picture.

When your opponent points a gun at you that is bigger and badder, and you point your gun at him and it is painted with fluffy rainbows, you might end up rethinking your choice after a bit. Having a limited set of combat or RP options such that you have to pick and choose is wonderful. Having them compete with each other really doesn't seem to favour the RP, though.

I dunno, I'd say it's more like one of them is a gun with a silencer, lasersight, sniperscope, grenade-launcher, loudener and an attachment to shoot down police helicopters. The other gun has a lasersight and a grenade launcher, but instead of sounding "bang" it sings Wagner.

Can it be that people who had cults to begin with get them back or get some sort of refund on it? It really did take 10 million personal essence to start, and to have to drop essence into it again, to start all over, really doesn't sit too well.

After quoting the admin:

Forgive me for taking this as 'throwing a tantrum' then. My apologies!

And I'm more than fine with having to sacrifice some combat utility for cool RP stuff, and I'm speaking as someone who just spent 1k credits for a cord to twink my defenses out.

I also quoted the entire post to best represent what Eventru said. I admit, the first line or two were sarcastic (sarcasm isn't a tantrum), but I did raise a legitimate question.

But what makes that any different from what Lusternia is today? An astrologer nihilist is nowhere near as potent as a tarot nihilist, a BC serenguard isn't as nice as a BM one, and so forth?

It has always been understood that when you make certain choices based off RP, your combat may have to suffer because of it.

This is not new, people.

Precedence isn't always a good justification (it can be!). Simply because people suffered for RP decisions in the past doesn't mean that they should have to now.

I find it easier to change something before it's full implemented than after. I've tried sticking to what -has- been said, though.

I thought bc serenguard was pretty nice..

Man, that's not even the point sad.gif We can sub in 'psychometabolism monk vs. acro monk' or something like that.
Unknown2010-07-26 19:55:25
Hmm. Can I spend essence to buy back my BC stun?
Unknown2010-07-26 20:00:01
Isn't it a bit like complaining that certain tradeskills get combat utility (forging) while others do not (cooking), or races with different bonuses? As much as you may want to RP a lucidian, warrior cook, if you are going to meta-game, you probably won't go this route.

Also, you are assuming that the all-combat set will have skills that are mutually synergistic -- i.e. If skills A, B, and C are good, having all three isn't necessarily three times as good. If, for example, the all-combat person would have two different hunting attacks that simply did different damage types, I would not consider that a great advantage.

As a last aside, does a custom enter/exit message really affect your rp that much? Probably not.

A custom enter/exit message can actually be quite a tone setting thing for RP.

Bob enters from the east a fluffy rainbow shooting out of his ass as he moves.

People stop and blink and say "wtf?" and some even ask what the rainbow is about and BLAMO you have RP.
Eventru2010-07-26 20:35:42
I can't believe people are still saying 'BLAMO!'.

Sure it does. Especially if your custom entry message looks like:

QUOTE
^Shadows suddenly leap out from every corner\\, violently whirling in a sudden surge\\. When the shadows dissipate slightly\\, you gasp as you feel strands of darkness still cling to you\\, binding you to (+) in a suffocating\\, choking embrace\\.$

So much RP.

Holy crap she is onto me.

Shuyin enters from the east............................................................................ <----abusing linespacing
Thick shadows drag against your every action.
Gregori2010-07-26 20:53:38
Kalin enters from the east. You have badluck. Run to forums now.
Everiine2010-07-26 21:03:00
Everiine enters from the south, and you brace the for the worst. Surely, you think, a ghastly wall of text is about to assault your senses, something so horribly overwritten it may as well be Eventru entering the realm. You squeeze your eyes shut, hoping to keep out the wailing and screaming that is bound to erupt from the carnage. Soon you realize that there is nothing: no wall of flamboyantly yellow text, no overused cliches, no attempts to draw your attention in any way. And then you remember: Everiine isn't even a Demigod. What are you worried for?

Everiine leaves to the north, turning his head to yell, "SUCKERS!" behind him.
Lendren2010-07-26 22:56:07
I'm all for custom exit messages if it means people stop being shrouded all the time so we get to see them. It'll be like free faeriefire!
