For some reason at the time I was convincing myself Hallifax would explode if all the conduits got messed up.
Or fall out of the sky. laugh.gif

If I understood the random bits I got tossed at me one time by it, it was a researcher but now it's that researcher's body containing the consciousness of every single member of the institute who ever was and ever will be, existing in and aware of all times simultaneously. Which is why it'll occasionally chat with people in other times and stuff.

From the way I see it, the Conclave is an amalgamation of original Institute member's consciousness(possibly and most likely from the future as well). They all splice together from different timelines and merge into one sentience. Its similar to how the Collective has a higher conscience as a city. Everyone in Hallifax is part of the Collective but their minds all actually are interlinked in some way to create this 'web'.

Doe that make sense? Its sticky to explain. That is sort of what you said anyways. I see them as some all-knowing elders. geek.gif

I like to think that the mechanism by which the Conclave comes to be all that is some invention that is yet to happen. But while it'd be the coolest thing ever if it did happen during the playing of the game as an event (admins, feel free to purloin this idea), I doubt it will. It's more likely the kind of thing that'd happen far into the future.

Oh, I can't remember what news post it was, but when Gaudi and Halli got guardians there was an explanation as to why they poofed. But you must mean the -actual- reason they exist, right?
Lendren2010-08-05 22:44:08
Why the Conclave exists. Someday, some energetic Researcher will invent something that will end up creating the Conclave, retroactively incorporating the Institute's membership, and also retroactively causing the Conclave to have always existed. He or she won't even realize at first that that's what's being invented. The moment of invention is still in our future, but the question is, will it happen in the game, or will it be something so far into the future that we'll never play it? Probably the latter, though the former would be really cool, and if so I hope to be involved.

*cough* Actually, there's a reason for the Conclave's existence. But the details are classified. Meaning I haven't gotten around to telling absolutely -everyone- yet.

Oh -great-, now they have to be eliminated.

You Institute types make Sentinel work harder.

Ileeeeiiin. *nags*
You're worse than Elostian when it comes to withholding secrets.

I see a slight family feud developing between the Skyplumes and Shavatts. But OOCly its all in good fun and contributes to the Hallifax atmosphere.

Honestly, I don't know why this is such a big surprise, the Conclave has always spoken about himself and prof Nauta Shevat when you ask him about who or what he is. Are the triggers for that response really so obscure that no one has found them yet?

Also, you may find that the Conclave speaks of events that are not necessarily that far back in the past...
Unknown2010-08-05 23:44:19
I believe putting the cat into the sphere was an essential step in creating the conclave suspicious.gif
Lendren2010-08-05 23:47:23
Well, in a guild that studies temporal physics, the fact that the cause is already known hardly precludes that it may still be yet to happen. (If not, I hope some cause is yet to happen.)
Aicuthi2010-08-05 23:54:23
Imagine if Nauta Shevat hasn't even been born yet. Or an event happens where the Conclave is theatened to stop existing, so Nauta Shevat comes back through time so the dying Conclave can be assimilated into his body again.

Mindscrew!
