Favours for scholarly/artistic work may let you reach a certain city rank(if we are being specific, the highest caste) in comparison to other things, but that doesn't make those things less of a priority to reward. People should be given favours based on who was deserving them at the time, not by who's deeds outshine the others the most. That is actually a ridiculous way of doing things.
This is why I appreciate Nariah and Esano.

Nah, when I was CL and I favoured somebody for a non-scholar/artist favour before I favoured someone for a scholar/artist thing, even when the former happened chronologically first, Elostian told me off. Of course, I just stuffed that in the "lolasificare" pile.

And well you should. When people defend, or link a raised prime node and put in power, they deserve to be recognized, not just "lulz I wrote a scroll on why the rain is made of water and not lemonade"

She was saying she didn't care if scholarly related achievements got favoured first, which is what she got a talking to about, she wasn't going to do it.

Really, though, if you don't want to play in the sort of society where fighters aren't idolized and damn near worshiped, don't! I do my best to make sure people who defend and that sort of thing get their favors just as do the writers and arghpeers, for my part.

QFT.
EDIT: To add a bit more of my thoughts...I really really love Hallifax because it's different. I like that you have to actually do what Hallifax's RP says people do to be one of the higher ups to get there. I know it bothers people because it's not what they're used to, and that it makes our mechanics-based progression a bit slower, but...come on, guys! It just wouldn't make sense RP-wise for Hallifax to work like everywhere else. And to me, the RP is what I'm in it for, not the "yes we are the best look at these numbers that prove we're the best!" part of things.
...I know, one day, someone is going to be in charge in Hallifax who doesn't agree, and things are going to change. And I'm going to be

Nothing wrong with that, so long as you don't bitch when you're raided and the enemy doesn't run from your prose and scrolls about how Time is like a writingdesk.

This is probably why your organization will continue to spinelessly chain itself to whatever other organization is in power at the time.
Some people don't find that a flaw, I guess. But it definitely strikes me as a weak point.

I started typing and then deleted about three different responses to this, realized it would be incredibly stupid to reply to sincerely because it would just start some sort of dumb argument, and am now amusing myself by thinking "trolling is a art."

Furien isn't trolling, that's a serious answer. Honestly, would Hallifax have what it has now without Glomdoring?
Edit: On a slightly more serious note... I love Hallifax. I really do, it's a great place. But when you basically ignore the people who give their lives for you, and favour the person who stands around at the Matrix writing sonnets, don't complain when you need to win a fight and it doesn't happen.

I find this severely ironic, considering this whole argument was sparked off by Elostian favouring on basis of the defense caste article for a few months now.
Irrespective of that, this is not the place for this conversation. If you wish to complain about how hallifax doesn't favour fighters and make snide comments about how it is a 'worthles' and 'spineless' organisation, please feel free to make a separate thread and it shall be closed when it becomes too acidic.

I think you're misunderstanding my point.
There are already laws that prevent you from getting past 4th rank from defending. I'm not asking for that to change. That is perfectly sound and makes 100% sense. You could even bump it down to rank 3 and I wouldn't complain. I'm just saying: pay attention to people doing stuff. That extends beyond just defending, which happens to be the localized complaint in the city as of late. Nothing more. I don't think that's asking a lot.
This isn't about scholars/roleplay VS fighters/metagame. Just reward your citizens.
Shulamit2010-08-09 16:51:39
I design all day. Constantly, and for multiple cartels. I have gotten just enough favours to get to rank two in the entire time of my creating stuff (since the city reappeared, eh?) I don't mind not getting more favours. (sometimes, sure, it's...a bit upsetting, but, the use of my money is more painful). I'm not sure what I meant to add, other than, not everyone who sits around designing gets favours constantly. I think.
Unknown2010-08-09 16:53:16
The obvious solution is to bump fighters up to CR5 and then point at that for the rest of history whenever they complain.

What if you want to rave about that instead?!
I wonder if Kalin can be convinced to buy Glomdoring's loyalty off of Hallifax. It's not like Hallifax does anything good for Glomdoring.
