If Glomdoring wants to strip all their Ascendants and then re-raise one or two, that's certainly something they're welcome to do.

However, I can't imagine just 'stripping' everyone and then letting cities raise from there - it just seems like a messier, less desirable situation - to save a few egos, you're asking for quite a lot more coding, and to wound quite a few others.

You've wounded every demigod's ego, really. losewings.gif

Oh, you edited this in.

Why does it take a 'whole lot more coding' to use the mechanic already in (deascend), force de-ascend everyone, and then add (500,000 x the number of Ascendants the org would have kept) in power beyond the stock 500k gained upon deascending?

Also, far more people are going to be stripped than kept at this point, so. tongue.gif

Just descend the ascendants that weren't demigod before they were ascended, the descended ones are still demigod, after all, and that would leave you with.. 1 maybe 2(?) ascendants instead of 8 or whatever number you have now.
Shiri2010-08-11 15:00:25
I think it'd be more like 6 or 7 instead of much more than that.
Unknown2010-08-11 15:07:10
If all else fails, we can always fall back on the tried and true RNG.

Dice roll for ascendant status.
Eventru2010-08-11 15:15:49
I'm pretty fond of the current path, and think it's the most fair. I don't think ascendants in any of the other orgs would be very happy being stripped, and one person not wanting to re-raise them blocking them out. It would also encourage say, 'Okay, Malicia and Nydekion are Vernal Demigods now, we have the credit for re-raising them, but Jinx thinks they both smell bad and refuses to vote for them. So let's raise Azula and Jinx instead' - and now they have 2 vernal demigods and 2 ascendants at the cost of 2 ascendants. I can't imagine anyone would be happy with that - especially Malicia and Nydekion.
Gregori2010-08-11 15:17:50
I would be happy.
Noola2010-08-11 15:24:09
Find someone with a box that has a Great Rune of Contained Dimensional Instability attached and put a letter inside it for each Ascendant your Org has after you've pruned all the inactive ones. On all but two of the letters, put the word DECEND (or something) that means they lose it. And on two of them, put YOU WIN (or something) that means they keep it.

Then, have every Ascendant shake the box. A random letter will fall out and whatever it says, that's what goes.

100% fair!

I'd be in the same boat myself; I'd be a Vernal Demigod instead of VA and I'd have to go through the exact same thing as Malicia and Nydekion. So would Sidd. And whoever the #3 would be.

That said, I'd rather discuss giving things to someone rather than taking them away, y'know? :/
Xenthos2010-08-11 15:33:09
And I will note again that I am not speaking (or trying to speak) for all of Glom's Ascendants / leaders / etc. here, this is my own personal opinion.
Talan2010-08-11 15:53:50
We have five people that are active, deserving, and wanting of 2 or possibly 3 spots. The possible third is particularly wrenching. We have to keep debating who should lose it when we don't even know for sure if we'll have to sacrifice that third person. People have resigned themselves to losing it and then there's this glimmer of hope that may turn out to be false. All of the candidates are willing to step aside, for the good of the org, for the benefit of someone they think deserves it more, for the benefit of someone they think will use it better. The decision isn't getting any easier. We've known it's coming, yet all along it has been a matter of waiting to see what the exact numbers will be before making the final call. And we still don't know.

We already resent the admin (I'm sorry, it can't be helped.) for this change, but we further resent the fact that they are putting the ugliest consequence of this change on our shoulders. You have put us in a situation where we are forced to resent each other for the choices that need to be made and inevitably leave bad feelings. This is a social game, and so not uncommonly, we have become real friends - who are now being forced to decide which of our friends is least deserving of something we all want. It's crap, any way you slice it. I don't blame Xenthos for trying to find any way out of this, because the situation is awful. While we are resigned to the fact that this is for the best for the game over all, a modicum of sympathy for the situation we're in isn't unreasonable. I know a lot of people reading this scoff, feeling that we are fortunate enough to be having this problem, of too many deserving people... yet the sentiment Xenthos expresses is that he'd rather have no one than have to choose who gets to keep it, and he's not alone in feeling that way.
Noola2010-08-11 15:57:40
I get the feeling (by the way no one is commenting on my suggestion one way or another) that folks might think it's a joke or something. It's not. Several people are deserving, everyone is willing but hopes it won't be them, no one wants to make the decision that might hurt a friend or cause rifts, even unconscious ones, in a group.... so don't.

Seriously. Do it lottery style like I suggested. Everyone has the exact same chance, no one can claim unfairness or favoritism.
Gregori2010-08-11 16:01:37
Wow, you get to keep 2 maybe 3 ascendants. Golly, geee and us over in Gaudiguch who were thinking of raising our first now have to wait longer cause the price went up. I, myself, I feel for you, no, truly I do, I mean it must suck real bad that you can't have 7 - 8 ascendants anymore and you only get to pick 2 or 3 to keep, on top of your TA's and Demigods and the 5 -6 that will end up being Vernal Demigods.

That's not nice, Gregori. sad.gif I understand the dilemma. No one wants to hurt a friend and most people in orgs are also friends - especially if they're at the VA level. Making fun of folks who feel bad cause they have to figure out some way of not hurting a friend isn't very nice at all and I'm kinda disappointed in you for being like that. sad.gif

Lehki2010-08-11 16:09:15
Maybe I'm just a mean-spirited heartless person, but I really can't get how anybody could be upset or resentful or guilty about this. It's a game, and everybody knew this was coming for MONTHS.

I don't really care if this was done or not, but I think this particular problem is only an issue in Glom, don't think there's really much of decision to make in any other org.
Unknown2010-08-11 16:11:57
This is just out of morbid curiousity here, but have you stepped up and volunteered yourself for descending Gregori?
Gregori2010-08-11 16:12:10
What Lehki said. It's not like this was a blindside. Everyone knew this was happening and everyone knew that there would be someone needing to step down. The fact you waited to the last minute then cry foul doesn't make you look like victims, it makes you look like your trying to find a new way to game the system so you maintain the best possible outcome.

Wait, wait, wait.

Are you seriously claiming I've waited until the last minute, here?

Seriously?

Yes actually. It's even in the Serenwilde Logs. I asked Sadie to deascend me yesterday.
