I don't really care if this was done or not, but I think this particular problem is only an issue in Glom, don't think there's really much of decision to make in any other org.
In practice, it is. Glomdoring is the only org that has more active ascendants than potential available power to maintain them. Everyone else doesn't has many, or has far more that have turned inactive.
So, while I am sympathetic to Xenthos and my commune mates, I really hesitate to participate much in a proposal that will affect the other orgs too, when they might not want to opt-in. Continuing down this path can only lead to regurgitated arguments and flame-baiting about winning too much that we've all heard before.
We can still make the decision without it being IC. Given the nature with how this is being handled, I don't think it is supposed to be an IC decision.
I'd say RNG is the best method.

I thought I saw this coming a mile away (and yes, rarely playing my Ascendant anymore probably has something to do with it) but I guess the feeling isn't the same for others.
Distance from the point of change always makes it easier to accept the change. That's not "probably", that's "definitely". And it's important to keep in mind when discussing things with people who are clearly upset, unless you are actually going out of your way to stir the pot. In which case... oh well!

The fact that if the admins descend them all for you means there is no drains suffered by Glomdoring because they dilly dally and argue over who to descend, and instead they just get 3.5 - 4 million power shot back at them and can instantly reraise the 2 of their picking, has no bearing whatsover on this, huh.

I'm not sure if you and Noola actually mean this, but if it were me I'd be pretty pissed to lose VA due to a die roll, even if the drama is frustrating too. Do not recommend!

I dunno maybe. I really just have a hard time seeing people being that upset about this. If one of them showed up and really wanted to stay ascendant I'd just step aside. I mean yeah it's new and shiny, but honestly not many of the abilities look all that interesting or zomg must have to me.
I guess besides the ones that they kept that we said should be deleted.
I guess besides the ones that they kept that we said should be deleted.
That's really just means we have a different view on things, from my perspective, VA is this huge honor that's bestowed upon people, and the reason I received it was I brought hope to an org that was completely at the bottom and started moving our way up (yes I think we had started moving up before Shuyin joined albeit very slowly, Shuyin was just a quickening reagent). While I've definitely offered OOCly that I would be ok with being stripped, I haven't brought myself to say it ICly other than the 'I'll do what if asked of me' comments but the thought of losing it sucks. I agree with you on the new ascendant skills, most being kind of cool, but not have to have skills, but it's just the ness of 'oh, we really thought you deserved this so we gave it to you, but now we need to take it away because you just aren't -that- cool and we need the power.' And I say this being one of the people most likely to keep it (Xenthos is even louder than me, and he's all but guaranteed to keep it).
as I said, we just have a different perspective on it I guess

And, while we do that, we have no VAs, other organizations aren't being hit by power drains either, and so our incentive is to raise some for Domoths asap.
Disbelieve all you want; I'm not claiming that this will be of "no benefit," I'm stating my personal belief that this will make it easier to swallow.

I just wanna point out that whether someone freaks out over CT isn't really the point. Not a single one would, I'd think. ICly, a character could react with all the cool acceptance in the world. Doesn't mean the OOC player might not feel hurt. Might not wonder, deep down, even if they know it's really not that big a deal and it says nothing about them what so ever, why that person got to keep it and they didn't.
This might be an IC decision, but OOC feelings are going to go into it, even if it's only unconsciously. All folks can do is try to make it as fair as possible.

You know, the glamour that locked everyone into this rock solid belief that vernal ascendants are better than everyone else is gone. It's clearly not a roleplay device anymore, and it has deviated so much from the histories that (sort of) introduced the idea of vernal ascendancy, that I really wouldn't be too upset if they all disappeared forever.
Unless they were all wiped out and we had to raise them again. To go along with that, so we can actually be immersed in the gameplay again, make it a plague that kills off ascendants. Make it a God war that requires vernals to give up their divinity to their chosen deity. Make it a quest gone wrong and every nation faces certain destruction because Random Big Bad can't be locked back up by a special, new vernal seal, or something.
Do something to make even keeping any of them worthwhile to the vernals themselves and to the playerbase/nations that actually spend the time helping with power upkeep.

This. I'm not going to pretend this doesn't hurt me a little bit, even if I only play Alianna nowadays as a form of relaxation (... hah).
It always sucks that you end up losing an honour that you worked really hard for. Or, in some cases, frustratingly hard for (1 loss, 1 tie followed by losing by 1 vote, followed by a triple-tie and double ascension!). This is just what's good for the game, though, and if my contribution to my organization was important enough, they'll still remember me and respect me even if I'm just an ex-Vernal.
Edit:
If we're going to talk about deascending everyone, it can be blatantly OOC (forced deascension) and relatively quick and as painless as possible, OR we can milk the drama and consume even more coder resources by making some big, somber event (edit2:) wherein we all gloriously an hero ourselves to some random cause.

This is all I am asking for. Get it over with. Get it done. The whole thing is pretty OOC anyways, so just get it over with.
Please don't let it linger on and on and make us vote each other off the island.

Getting VA was something that I as a player looked forward to from the start of Lusternia when it was hinted at. It was a goal I had for years of playing the game and getting it finally meant I had "won" Lusternia because that was where my goal was. I don't really care that I am losing it because as Lehki said, this is a game and eventually the game is going to be put in its box and shelved. The only thing that matters is that you made it to your goal. You know, and everyone else knows that you acheived something. Now it's time for someone else to acheive it. That's why I logged on gregori and said on CT, "descend me please, give it to someone else now" Because I had my time and it's not some deep emotional attachment that requires tears on a forum over.
You can say "oh well you don't play gregori anymore so it doesn't matter to you like it matters to me" and sure, you might have a small point, but don't try and say the title of VA meant nothing to me as a player.
Also, it might suck to have to pick which friend to decend, but it sucks more that the friend puts you in a position to choose and doesn't say "descend me."

How about when everyone is saying "Descend Me" even though you know absolutely every one of them wants to keep it, so you're back to picking regardless?

Well, in my case I already volunteered to be deascended...I mean, the whole system is kind of dissatisfying in that in the historical context of vernal ascendants and the orgs people like Nejii and Xenthos are not really who should be first on the chopping block (or more like, they shouldn't be at all) but that clearly isn't changing so we may as well just deal with it.

Our decision is really easy now that every one of our vernals other than Lehki and Iasmos is playing in Gaudiguch. As much as I love you, you're on the block the same as all of our other inactives, regardless of how they would have implemented it. If you were still playing Nejii all the time, it would be a

I don't disagree with you. I can see where you're coming from and I think it's really awesome of you to step up (or down as the case may be). But, maybe other people feel differently about what having gotten VA means to them. Maybe the problem is that several people are willing to say 'descend me' but not all of them need to. Choices have to be made either way and even though they might be willing to, but that doesn't mean that someone might not feel hurt, even just a little, that of the three people willing to step down, only they actually had to.
And yes, it is just a game. I do completely agree. And I don't think that anyone should let this little bump in the road dictate their enjoyment of it or ruin their friendships or anything of the sort. I think it'd be silly if people let that happen over something like this.
That said, when people spend enough time and/or money on something you can't just expect them not to feel it when things happen. That's not fair either.
No one's really wrong here, but everyone could stand to take a minute to remember that how they feel about things might not be how someone else feels about them.

What historical context? o,o
I mean if back in the Vernal Wars Klangratch was just like, "Sorry guys, I'm done." and never bothered with the soulless anymore, and people could have drained his power to give to another, I don't think there would be any hesitation that it would be done.
