QUOTE (Sior the Anomaly @ Aug 11 2010, 08:09 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Per the announce, please use this thread to post comments.
Up weight totals as follows:
Demigods: 500.
Vernal Demigods: 750.
Ascendants: 1000.
This allows for weighting of 20 and such (nice rounds 5s as the system seems to like) versus 1s and 2s.

Here is my suggestion for change as I posted here. Click for a review.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
I will now make an attempt to suggest changes to the new system as per suggestions made.
Currently, the list is such:
Demis - 50 weight
V Demis - 100 weight
Ascendants - 150 weight
My suggested changes (taken from others' too) are below:
Demis - 50 weight
V Demis - 75 weight
Ascendants - 100 weight
Rationale:
Demis:
Demis right now actually get less flavour utility under the new system compared to the old one. We have to fix this. On top of that, the number of abilities demis have access to is not representative of the 'coolness' of getting demigod. Essentially, what I've done is left the costs slightly halved, then vastly reduced the respective weights, making it possible to get all your stats to be beefy while leaving at least half of your possible weight to be used on cool custom things.
With these adjusted weights, it is possible for the demi to:
Have all their +stats back (should they desire) = 25
Get a custom entrance, shout, look, teleport = 8
Shrink or Expand, depending on class = 2
get a Custom zap = 15
---------------------------------------------------------------
Total = 50 weight, 55 million essence
These abilities should be more than enough for the average noncom demi while at the same time making the costs not impossible to get. It gives the demi more flavour options while also preventing what makes them lame (divinefire).
On Divinefire:
-It is a ridiculous ability and should have been deleted, but since it wasn't, we will have to work with it. What I've done is increase its weight to 50 and increased its essence cost to 30 mil, making it so the average demigod will only be able to get that and ONLY that, nothing else. In addition, under this proposal, Vernal Demis (henceforth known as VD's, lol) and Ascendants will have their total weights reduced by 66% and 50%, respectively, severely hampering their powers and their ability to make crazy builds.
On shortening the gap between demis and ascendants:
-Geb and Akui have already mentioned that widening the gap between the Haves and Have Nots is a Bad Thing ™ for reasons being that 150 weight really is a lot, especially if you reduce the weights to help the regular demis out. While under the current system, a fully pimped out ascendant will never be as decked as an 'old' demi, they will still have access to some potentially crazy domothean powers, skewing the game's already precarious "balance". With that said, giving VD's and Ascendants 75/100 weight still makes them better than demis, but it also limits their options for crazy abilities.
On temp vs. permanent powers:
-There is no one in their right mind who would pay as much for a temporary power as they would for a permanent power. Therefore, in my mind, what should be done is that instead of temporary powers costing an equal amount of essence, temporary powers should weigh twice as much as their permanent form while either having a minimal cost in essence, no essence cost at all, or a minor drain in essence per weave. If we're tossing about arbitrary numbers, I feel a base 1 million for every power to last an ingame year, or about 80k essence per RL day per power for an ingame year should be more than fair, though personally, I prefer 0 essence cost.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
I will now make an attempt to suggest changes to the new system as per suggestions made.
Currently, the list is such:
Demis - 50 weight
V Demis - 100 weight
Ascendants - 150 weight

Lower essence cost overall. Basing it off of aethercraft is rather silly, if you ask me, since it's not something you can do as you wish, since it takes a group of people to be able to pull it off.
Lendren2010-08-12 00:19:11
Are those of us who helped you test the current system by buying in before the changes going to get the differences (for better or worse) adjusted?
Lehki2010-08-12 00:26:56
The essence costs for demigod powers should be lower, if nothing else is done.
It's also sad to see Divine Fire still exist in its current form.

Taking Sojiro's numbers, modifying to fit higher totals:
EndowmentOfBrawn--------------40
EndowmentOfThought --------------------40
EndowmentOfLife--------------------------40
EndowmentOfFortitude--------------------40
EndowmentOfVanity-----------------------40
Refresh-------------------------------------80
DivineFire----------------------------------400
CustomZap--------------------------------100

CustomTeleportMessage-----------------50
SecondTradeskill-------------------------100
Shrink-------------------------------------15
Expand------------------------------------15
ChoiceShout--------------------50
ChoiceZap----------------------50
PlanarQuickening---------------50
So, one could buy all five of the stats and use up 200 of their points. At that point, they can't get DF (I don't believe it should use up all the points personally, just enough to be very prohibitive and allow very few other things; if it uses all points, it'll essentially just be an Ascendant toy only which just makes it a different issue IMO.)
Stats and tradeskill is 300, choice zap and shout is 400, Refresh and either Shrink OR Expand is 495.
At that point you're able to buy most of what you had as a Demigod (excepting DFire). You also lose Seek. If you choose DFire, you sacrifice almost everything else.
Other stuff, you trade out some of the Demigod perks for them instead. Especially as new things are added.

Shuyin's plan is a strong and well founded compromise between the current state of things, and the upset player base.
Because of the nature of this change, you're not going to make everyone happy. There are going to be upset demis, unless you really take a leveling hand to things. But Shuyin's suggestion, especially after being exposed to the current set up, would have a very happy effect on the signifigant group of players who feel disenfranchised by this change.

Personally, I think custom stuff (custom, not buying new things or utility) should have an essence cost, but no weight.
Xenthos2010-08-12 00:38:38
Planarquickening also needs to go to 1,000,000 essence (or less), especially since it can't even be used through distort any more.
Noola2010-08-12 00:41:06
I like it having a weight. Why? Cause, when I get demi, I see myself as someone who won't be able to amass vast quantities of essence. I don't do a lot of hunting, period. I'm usually busy doing other things. So, with the weights, I can set my custom things and not worry about losing them if I can't get out and hunt enough during that year. I'd rather pay essence for the other stuff I prolly won't use that much than to lose my custom stuff (which is all I care about for Demi anyway) by accident.

I am talking a one-time buy with essence, not having to rebuy it. Getting something shiny shouldn't have to permanently keep you from getting something useful. And to those people who say its the choice of rp vs combat/utility - I have to question how much rp you really think you're adding by having a custom shout, its more a vanity.

I assumed people meant unweighted and permanent. Weight is meant to limit you, why limit something that has no combat or hunting effect?
Noola2010-08-12 00:49:19
Oh, I misunderstood. I was thinking no weight would mean not permanent.
Estarra2010-08-12 00:49:50
We'll look over everyone's suggestions, just be aware that they are all suggestions and we will ultimately use our best judgment. Keep in mind we are not looking to make sweeping changes (like majorly changing how the mechanics work, etc.), but rather making small tweaks to help balance the system.

Well, luckily, the system itself is well done; it's just the costs and limitations that need work.
So I think we're on the same page here, in general. Just with slightly different ideas about execution. You can also just divide my numbers by 10 if you wish, that was more to help out with the apparent desire to keep things as nice multiples of 5.
Gregori2010-08-12 00:56:44
I too agree that purely RP things should have no weight(limiting people on RP is just silly), but barring that Shuyin's low cost is palatable.
Rika2010-08-12 01:02:04
Not sure if this has been posted, but please make our 50 weights worth of powers not cost any essence.
Thul2010-08-12 01:02:18
I'd suggest opening the all the Domothean stuff to demis. VAs and TAs already have a significant advantage in their weight bonuses, TAs even get some of them for free, demigods already have some link to the domoths as evidenced by existing selection powers, and it might help to ease the raging tide of bile if all demigods had access to the interesting new skills that have been advertised for months now. Weights should keep anything too overpowering from happening.
