I know! I have been enjoying getting gems at 1gp regularly with enough persistence, patience, and risk, and this is one of the few parts of the new system I've been able to appreciate.

I think I'll avoid commenting on the list for now, though. But I appreciate that it is here. Now to make my get away...

Thank you for posting these, that answers a LOT of questions. These prices are double or triple what we expect, heh. This clears up a big part of the disconnect, I think.

Again, this simply indicates a baseline of what villages want their comms to be at their exact inventory level. Once their stocks go up enough above the base level, they would be more willing to lower their prices by double or even triple. (BTW, these baseline prices aren't really different from the baseline prices in the old comm system.)

Methinks you have trouble with bold!

Here's what the base prices currently are (subject to adjustment at admin discretion):

steel 200
gems 250
silver 145
marble 125
grain 30
meat 50
silk 125
milk 25
poultry 40
fish 35
fruit 20
wood 85
vegetables 15
eggs 10
iron 125
leather 65
coal 35
platinum 155
cloth 50
gold 150
rope 60

Anything above those prices indicate an understock and anything under indicate overstock. Keep in mind that overstock can drive those prices quite low!

whatthe.gif This is all really pricy, but these are the ones that just scared me to death. Especially that leather one. Holy moly, I'm used to paying 10-15 gold per leather!

Forgive me for not having the exact figures...

They totally are. tongue.gif I'm okay with readjusting based on these prices as intended averages. It's very helpful to know what value you give things. Readjusting is the right word, I think. In many cases we were looking at the floor prices as the value prices, as finding these prices was easy enough to do either by questing or waiting for production tics.
Eventru2010-08-26 00:06:20
There was a funky bug with the old commodity system that was having some effect on prices (I just remember the coder pointing it out, I want to say prices rarely went back up), that was fixed when the new system came through.
Unknown2010-08-26 00:10:06
Hmm, is this a good time to bump the designing issue with these commodities changes? Things are giving lower tithes, comms are more expensive, and designs now take twice as many comms. I feel like we're going to hit a point where this is going to make things jokingly expensive/impossible. Even if comms go down in price from questing we're still going to see a situation where a org just doesn't have any comms because of low tithes and an inability to really do any stockpiles. If this was the admin intention, which I can understand them wanting to do, the original comm amounts in designs would of done this. So yeah, what is the word or opinion on going back and looking at how much designs need?

Yes, I know Ragniliff had reported it, but it's known that the bugs were not addressed because of the difficulty in doing so in the old system. It doesn't change the fact that we grew accustomed to lower prices, and this will be a change.

Especially that we were used to lower prices with lower commodity requirements as well.

Double whammy.

They should have done this overhaul first, given it a while to see how the commflow and pricing would change and then adjusted comm requirements as needed.

Now it is just a kick in the teeth for the already hard pressed to get customers trades like artisan and bookbinder.

I still maintain that spiders, even at 12, never produced 100 silk in Angkrag on their own (i.e, above the passive levels).

I sincerely doubt someone went and quested for over one or two hundred silk then didn't buy it out (which would have lowered the tithes back down). It's not over one hundred per tithe, but it was over one hundred per day - by quite a fair margin!

As you can tell from the announce, we've made some more tweaks and will monitor this next round of updates. Thanks for the feedback!

How did the tweaks change things? Anyone notice the differences?

Subj: Commodity Adjustments

o We've changed the way commodities are tithed from villages in
several ways. You'll see tithes only once per weave, and the
effects of commodity quests will be more evident and have a
  greater effect.

o Ministers of Trade can now set price policies on city/commune
commodity shops. See CITY COMM or COMMUNE COMM if you have
  that privilege.

Penned by My hand on the 25th of Estar, in the year 275 CE.

No sooner than Comm Shop privs are implemented do we see that Glomdoring, overstock capital of the world, has closed their commodities warehouse to all non-Gloms.

You stay classy, Glomdoring.

If anyone feels Talan's numbers are off, please challenge them and post your own. If you think they are accurate, please emphasize that this is a part of your player perspective as well. It's important.

Yeah. Tithes from villages were big, and usually sufficient for keeping an org supplied if they maintained a decent number of villages. In addition to this, the large passive production and availability of most commodities in villages made it easy to return to the price floor.

Sure, I can get gems down to 1gp per now. But since at this current time, all gems are produced on rockeater turn-ins, the number of gems I can actually buy up are notably few and farther between. Gone are the days of cramming a village full of dozens and dozens of rockeaters, buying them completely out, then waking up the next day to find 100~ gems back in the village general store.

So, the issue for me is not just shifts of price, but the general availability of commodities in places other than the org comm caches, which in turn would make tithe sizes more or less important depending on how it swings.

Which brings me to...

Bug #13436 Resolution: Thank you for your bug report but you are under some
misinformation on how the comm system used to work compared to how it does work.
In any event, we are working on adjusting the new system.

Maybe that's not how it was supposed to work (and there has been open admission as such with regard to ugly code and bugs), but that's how it did work, and it's how I, and other major traders, made the old system work for us. Telling me I have misinformation doesn't change what I actually did, and what others succeeded in doing, in the old system, up until all this was implemented.

Comm availability is down. Many consider comm prices to be up. Comm requirements for trades have all around doubled. I guess that's all fine for new players who have not experienced otherwise, but no one I've come across has yet to feel like the new system has improved their ability to function over the old.

But perhaps I'm putting too much effort into this, because I've invested too much effort and time into shopkeeping not to. Even as I make this post, I haven't seen any tithes since they were adjusted. So... cow.gif

That's because us Trade folks are waiting until tomorrow to get tithe logs that won't spam 4 page lengths when we post them.

Talan had made the decision to close-off before the change went in. Even if it didn't go through, you'd see the same lack of provision - the difference being that it's easier for her to still provide for her own org than she believed it would be.

Regardless of how you view that decision, do not think that the decision was made in lieu of comm shop privs being implemented.

EDIT: because Tekora is fast

Hey, I've tried. Worse comes worse, I don't mind upping my shop prices and relaxing, instead of getting more and more stressed over trying to achieve the same levels of availability that used to be possible.

No, you see, I'm not worried about the other less available commodities. My concern is your giant buffing piles of lesser-used comms that have been sitting in your stockpiles for years since you've been holding 5 villages constantly. With the shop closed, those commodities can't get out into the public and the administration keeps seeing a huge build-up of commodities that they feel need to be reduced, thus we get increased commodity costs and prices.

tl;dr: When your stockpiles look like THIS.

Then you can complain about not being able to provide for your org.

I won't argue, since I'm talking from the perspective of supplying commodities to me, while commenting on Talan's decisions for the commune. I'm also talking from the perspective of one that had always been willing to go the extra mile to get commodities from villages before the commune - if not to keep the commune's supply high, then to try and get things cheaper.

I do think there is reason for concern, though. There are loads of reason for concern. I'd like to think the majority of my prior posts in this thread are indicative of this. But now, it's time for other people to insist there is a problem, because I apparently have been ineffective, and more people willing to insist there is a problem will be more likely to get results.
