Personally I would rather see it just gotten rid of and some minor perks be added to Families for achieving certain landmarks.
10 people in family you become a House
20 people in family you become a Banner house with FT
30 people in family you become a Great House with FT and some perk
and so on.

Anyone else like this simplified system to replace family honour?

I think this is the biggest, most valid complaint of the family system. (It's also the hardest to fix!)
What about the solution I edited into the bottom of that post?
Malicia2010-08-22 22:35:52
lol. I like how Estarra tackled Nariah's ideas.
Whee and Eventru mentioned La'Saet! /derail
Anyhow, I don't think you should gain honour for achieving a seat in another org and yes, in the La'Saet family case, what with Thoros being a filthy taintling ( <3 ) it wouldn't make much sense.
Oh and another idea- a special bannerhouse family emote would be a nice addition.

I don't know if you could tie it into the acheivements system but if so you could make a Family Acheievemnts section where you family members gain acehivements for gaining certain things in their family.
i.e
the family members one could be a family acheivement
Having 1 family member as GM
having 2 family members as GM
and so onn sort of thing.
Where if the achievement is earned by the fmaily everyone in the family is granted the achievement and xp bonus for it.

I really really like Eventru's ideas a lot!
That being said, I love the idea of the family honour system... it's great and has so much potential, just right now it's flawed. I don;t think that it should be scraped... it just needs a revamp. The idea behind it is wonderful, and it could be a lot richer. Eventru's ideas and Nariah's ideas are just the start! I DO think that if a revamp occurs that all honour points ought to be reset so people have a fighting chance, though, and I am sure even the Talnaras will agree with that!
Make more options (like I said before) for politicking, backstabbing and other ACTIVE means of increasing/decreasing family honour of your house and other people's houses. Makes it much more interactive and competitive!

I actually think the demi system is better to look at it with benefits for the family. Use gold/credits to buy benefits for a family based on the number of members, but yours might be easier.

The demi system might be good too. Spending honour on perks would remove the need for resets, if you kept the perks as ephemeral perks mostly with just a few permanent ones. This way families were spending their honour and not just getting ahead of everyone else with no chance of competition by up and coming new families.

I think that the key to the family honour system is to look at it and say, "What do people already do that would/should make a family more 'notable' in the eyes of its citizens." Personally things like power collection, gold donations to the city (philanthropy!), village influencing (already happens), offering to the family patron (already happens), increasing village feelings, gaining honours lines (presuming they fall into proper categories - Celest families shouldn't gain honour for 'dark' honour quests, but Magnagora shouldn't be gaining honour for freeing poor innocent Joiya, either!), completing the city's epic quest line, getting books published, adding to the city's culture, etc.
Things people do already, and then say "Okay, what else can we add to it?" like the ranked sparring bit that currently exists.
I always thought the honour system was well liked (tell me if I'm wrong!), it's just broken (and we can fix that!).

If you can fix it so that families don't feel punished more than rewarded then maybe. My idea of the system from the start was it was a nightmare of negative reinforcement. Like marrying someone into the family gained next to nothing for honour but divorcing out cost the family quite a bit. Casting out was the same thing, even if you were casting them out because they were bringing a negative atmosphere to your family. The way it was set up you were basically hostage to penalties.
Also I don't think you should get honour for having a family patron. Sometimes you have a family where none of the patrons fit. Though if you do get a family patron you should get honour for offering to that patron.

I think Gregori's idea off of mine was amazing. I was just saying gold or credits, but buying perks based off honor accrued would likely help quite a few problems.

I like it, yes.
However, in terms of Nariah's first point (the small families one that you asked for clarification on): My family has 6 'Active' members.
Of those 6, only 1 logs on (me).
This means that this family is pretty much a dead-end; there's nothing I can do with it, nowhere to go, and I can't even pledge it / join it to other families. I'd like to be able to do something with it other than just ditching it, because... well, there are numerous reasons. However, at this point in time that's the only option I've got.
I'd like to be able to align it with other Houses, ala Bannerhouses, only with an even more reduced benefit (even if it just gives +1 member). Essentially joining the family as a non-related "Uncle".
In the real-world, I've an Uncle (name removed) who is not actually a blood relative, but he is the one who introduced my parents when they were in college. When we were kids, we were left at his house a lot when my parents went out, and his kids stayed over at ours when he went out. Even though they're not blood relatives, they are part of our (admittedly small) family; our family events always include them. We just had my sister's birthday party a week ago and they were in attendance, for example. He is going to be the minister at her wedding.
I'd like to see that kind of option available.
Edit: By 'in attendance' I mean that it was just a family gathering of the four of us and them.

Sure! These are things that can be definitely looked at if we keep the house honour system.

What about the demi system for using honour to buy perks? It provides an outlet to siphon off honour without the need for forced resets.

What'd be interesting if there were family 'styles' you can set your greathouse/bannerhouse to, each of which have their own ways of gaining and losing honour.
Like governing styles (religious/commercial/conquest).

I was mulling over the influence bonus thing too and thinking it should be dependant on your org instead of just a universal bonus. Like Serenwilde have a better empower influence, glom seduce.
Or if you went with the demi system you could make it each influence style cost 200 honour for a year or something.
Gregori2010-08-22 23:09:33
The more I think about it the more I like the demi shop idea for families. Thats a system that can easily be applied and built on over time IMO. Whoever came up with it did something very good for Lusternia if you choose to apply it to more than just one aspect of the game.

That's an Estarra question. I'm not really opposed to it, but I'm not honestly sure what'd be involved. What would you be buying? The only thing I can honestly think of is allowing great houses to 'buy' a 'house' in the Prime city, and then pay for expansions etc, but I don't think that's really something we'd want to do. Donno! Like I said. Estarra question.
What sort of perks?
Gregori2010-08-22 23:14:50
- House in neutral zone off main highway 1000 honour
- House in Prime City 2000 honour
- Influence boost 200 honour/influence type/year
- family mount 4000 honour
- I am sure more creative people like nariah could think of other things here
Edit:: got my numbers reversed for the houses. changed that.

A house on prime for the top greathouse in each org would be pretty swell, then you can pimp it out with rooms/regens/etc which costs gold/family honor.
