Badluck is annoying. I don't have focus mind yet so I don't have to worry about that, but it once stopped my commands like 4 or 5 times in a row. Managed to land an instakill before they could, but still - advice from a pro (not me, a real pro) is to run and wait it out (but they just spam badluck on you again so I dunno)
Gregori2010-08-28 00:53:10
It should also be noted that the complaint he is really making in this log is that he couldn't cure insanity cause of badluck. This is false. He could have, but he would have run a risk. Not to mention that he wouldn't have needed to run that risk at all, he was just unlucky enough to die to a bug.
At no point did he even have balance loss stacked on him. He just had unlucky procs on his forms.
So really this thread is "I couldn't cure insanity fast enough to not die to a bug, nerf badluck"

Edit:: After some thought on the matter, I am even leaning towards not putting in a fix for focus mind causing perpetual balance loss.
Lol.
I don't know why you are constantly so defensive, I asked a simple question, with no accusations or insinuations and you resort, immediately, to passive aggressive insults.
Oh well, this isn't the first time I've seen you respond in this way to people with opinions in opposition to your own, so, obviously the time for reasonable discussion here has passed.
Arix2010-08-28 01:07:54
can we close this thread, it seems to be accomplishing nothing except attracting trolls and people crying nerf. And Arixes.

Yes, cause pointing out your taking a 4 month old comment at the beginning of an 8 page thread (meaning out of context to the entirety of the thread) is selective quoting = passive aggressive insults.
You didn't just 'ask a simple question" you intentionally hunted up a quote and posted it to try and make it look like I was on board with something, that I said later on in the thread I was not on board with after multiple testing.
The only passive aggressive anything going on is with you.
Oh, pro-tip I don't turn off focus mind in badluck and I -never- balance lock myself and I use focus cure. Something to think about.

I think Shuyin already pointed out the main drawback of choke, being that it affects the caster, too.
Not that I like choke, but if your best argument for badluck being okay is 'choke is worse', then maybe it's just time to change both.
Since you mentioned skills to hinder curing methods in the old post of yours you quoted, let's compare badluck to aurawarp.
Aurawarp lasts 30 seconds and has periods of around 2 seconds where you cannot eat herbs or apply salves, followed by periods of around 4 seconds where you can. Two cures are 'switched' off for one third of the time of the duration, but the respective periods are rather short and clearly marked by game output. The affliction is curable when the caster is not in the room. Cost: 2 power.
Badluck currently lasts 60 seconds and hinders focus curing - one curing type - one third of the time. It does so randomly, there is no way to know when it will proc. It cannot be circumvented, the only way is to stop focusing ALL the time. (If you don't resort to that and indeed try focusing normally, it not only hinders your own offense accordingly, you will also be unable to writhe out of impalements or get rid of ectoplasm for a while, both of which are afflictions paradigmatics users can cause. So, even more hindering of curing.) The affliction is uncurable. No power cost, 2 power suggested as per report 433.
It would be interesting to know if any focusing will be affected by badluck or only focus mind. Does anyone know?

Affects: Stances, Focus Mind, Focus Body, Focus Spirit, Invoke, Evoke, Scrub and all aggressive actions.

Great, you accurately described what two skills do. Good on you. Badluck hinders curing and knocks you off balance 33% of the time. Yup, we know that. Thanks for making a 3 paragraph post to explain the obvious.
You have to turn off focus all the time. Well only in a bad system do you have to do that. This doesn't however stop you from that old fashioned manual curing.
Nor does it change the fact that you died to something wholly unrelated to badluck or even balance stacking. Nor were you balance loss stacked at any point in your log.
So basically the thread is "I don't like badluck keeping from my ez-mode monk train and I could have cured before dieing to a bugged instakill if badluck didn't stop me curing insanity faster"
Translation: waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhh

Scrub? If that is true, that's very harsh with ectoplasm. Does it also affect cleanse?

What about having Badluck cured by focus spirit?

What about learning to add 2 lines of code to your system to stop balance loss stacking?
and I don't mean turn off focus mind curing.

Translation: You lost track of any constructive discussion long ago and have been resorting to personal attacks ever since.
Why I posted the comparison should be obvious, it is because Aurawarp is hugely inferior in more than one respect, and yet a raise of its powercost was debated in a report 1.5 years ago.
If all the things listed by Prav are affected by badluck, you can put that into the comparison.

Be that as it may - what about focus spirit curing badluck?
I mean, Choke's been changed several times because it was deemed OP (some might even say it has been downgraded). This was despite the fact that some people who had bothered to learn to fight in Choke could fight in Choke. If Badluck is to be compared to Choke so often, and if only a few people who have bothered to learn to fight with Badluck can fight in Badluck, then why cannot it stand to be changed a tad (some could say downgraded), too?
It's all in the wrist.

This thread had no constructive discussion form the moment you posted the log showing you dieing to a bug and trying to cry that it was badluck's fault. It was nothing but a "badluck did its job. Nerf it" thread from the start and has been one giant troll factory and clusterf**k since your first post.

I already acknowledged several posts ago that the initial posting may not have happened had I noticed the bug. I still consider the skill and report 433 worth discussing over, which you seem to be very unwilling to do.

Do paradigmatics users have to rely on Badluck so terribly that any mention of adjusting it is opposed with such zeal? At the least slap a power cost on it so it's used more strategically instead of being hammered every time someone walks into the room. A lot of other incurable duration-effect spells (like phantasms, glamours, aeonics) cost 3 power already.
