not for those of us who primarily play to design things

All in all, Lusternia still is the best game in IRE. But only because the other games are so incredibly bad in general.

Comparatively(sp?) though if you want a trade in Lusternia you get one 'free' in the other games you have to spend 100 credits just for the skill and then have to put lessons into it to improve your skill at such.

It's not a difference that's meaningful in the end.

In other IREs you pay 100cr for a license. Then you pump lessons into the skill, in the end totaling about 244cr counting the license expenditure.

While you learn, or don't learn and sit with your tailoring/cooking/whatever at 5% Adept, you can make pretty much all patterns without needing to trans out the skill.

The 1,000,000 gold investment into a cartel just so you can have any kind of unique design selection is something you left out in terms of cost. Sure I can just use the public designs or join a couple of cartels - but there's not exactly a whole lot of creativity in just using someone else's stuff, unless by creative you mean "Creatively finding less expensive comms." Submitting through another TM's cartel means that other people can use it and there's not much you can to do stop them.

Actually Xiel... Estarra may have just made all of forging useful again. Only the well established players who know and are high enough circle to play the credit markets can really afford to buy good armor and both hunting and PK weapons, so now chain and scale have a whole new level of usefulness (since the superior versions aren't an option to those below the right circle (80-90ish)) given that' they're the only option! Look at the bright side forgers, you'll be able to use many of the items in your skillsets again. Break out the non-masterwork designs for all of those warriors who don't know how to cashbash 60-100K an hour. This is a good thing.

... Now if only there were a way to make weaker variants of enchanted robes that were cheaper.... ahh, cest la vive

(Shuffles off to make more cookies that he can actually make -cheaper- under the new system. Kidding here, don't zap me!)

Well, a pure black robe would work, should cost about 5k, un-enchanted, 1.5k to enchant. It's commodities are pure cloth, enough that I can get them made for novices in bulk. If you want an item to be 'ooh shiny' then get a bard to glamours it. Save money that way.

But on the other side, does this mean we will see more proofed leather armor? With robes being so expensive that is. And can we design an item out of anything? 10 finks, a few tints, and another animal, to make novice robes. Or start pouring in designs for bone weapons, a dagger is made out of a platypus, long sword made out of a trill, shields made out of gargoyle.. What else?

But then Casilu will kill me if I ask her to temper bulk non-masterwork weapons..
Ileein2010-09-02 14:46:05
Trill bones would be terrible for weapons. Hollow, you see.

Batting leather costs 50 silk, so no. Though if you want to take a pass on proofings altogether, then maybe.

Fine, orclash bones should be strong enough, krokani's too. And maybe, please, can we have things we can use other than cloth? I mean, we can use bait for wax, so why not something like reeds for wood, or rabbits for cloth? Have it so that you can only get 20 of so and so commodity this way.

And coal could use a quest, dig in your mines, helping out the miners, or if there is a forest fire, coal commodities are everywhere. Or you can gather the salt water in a vial or two, and dry it out for salt?

And so on, so forth.
Eventru2010-09-02 16:12:01
Designs that are 'cheap' and obviously intended to bypass the commodity costs (swords made out of weed, as an example) are rejected.

Have to agree. Over in Imperian I have every trade skill and it's definitely nicer to craft there then it is here in Lusternia (even if the crafting guild is full of morons). Things come back, generally, more quickly, you get to have your own designs without worrying about public/private nonsense. And generally things don't get clogged because designers only keep the patterns that are worth keeping around in an artifact tome.

Having been gone from Lusternia for a while, I came back to find out junk had been doubled. Even items that had super simple designs were now taking up a stupid amount of commodities. (like 10 silver bars for one plain silver ring, which is just plain dumb) It would be nice if the comms were set for each item based on its design - not some general figure of what any item type should have (ie 10 comms for this, 15 for that, etc)
