Obviously I've seen Red Dwarf.

And I don't watch Dr. Who but the reason Bali brings this up like it's a flaw is that I was defending it 'cause Casilu thinks it's nerdy (freak.)

Might not be over in the British territory, but it is here. Only people I know who watch it are nerds, so therefore, it must be nerdy.

For those who are really interested: Blake's 7 on Torrent

You play a text MMO, might want to watch where you're slinging the nerdbombs

According to my crazy ex liking Dr Who is less nerdy than liking Star Wars, which I consider pretty mainstream sci-fi. Take that opinion with a grain of salt, though, 'cause she is nuts.

That said, Blake's 7? NEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEERDS

I know it was a book first and I know that tv adaptions are never as good, but for Brit nerd sci-fi you can't go past

HHGTTG! (1981 version)

The 80's synth and Commodore 64 graphics are just too awesome.

I have that on DVD, it is both wondrously awesome and hilariously dated.
Though Zaphod's second head is still better in this one than in the newer movie.
Also the opening song is great and is now stuck in my head.

I never said I wasn't. I watch Dr. Who too. tongue.gif

Dr. Who is wonderful! Still trying to get through the early eps, but I'm all done with the later ones. Although I must say I'm very disappointed they changed Doctors; David Tennant was far better than the current one (Matt Smith) sad.gif At least in my opinion.
Bhiele2010-09-02 21:04:49
I just don't get this Dr. Who deal. Why aren't you all in an uproar over True Blood and finding out Sookie is a faeling?! scream.gif
Ssaliss2010-09-02 21:07:34
Meh, the whole vampire genre has been done to death.

And no, you may not counter with the fact that Dr. Who is the longest-running sci-fi series ninja.gif

Probably a good policy in general....

QUOTE (Gregori)
I was anti-Dr. Who for a long time due to the fact that it was a remake of a show that I found to be pretty terri-bad to begin with. After Dylara kept telling me how good it was though I decided to give it a chance and after watching all the seasons up to date I find myself waiting for the next season to start now.

I still think the first actor who played Dr. Who (in the remake) was the best and this most recent one is the worst.

Alright, so during my first exposure to Dr Who (an episode of the recent season) the following ran through my head: "Ok this is Doctor Who. Dude has a good looking jacket. This actress person is not bad looking. Hm. Why is he talking to a Trashcan? Why is he getting violent against the Trashcan? Why is the Trashcan talking through a plunger? Oh hey look the Trashcan escaped from the holding cell. Is it that big a deal the Trashcan can float? Seriously? Whats the deal with these horrible 80's sounding voice synthesizers. I'm not impressed that a blue light vaporized a room full of people. You call that acting?"

However if Gregori can be turned around maybe there is something to this. Can the brain trust of Lusternia recommend 5 or 6 episodes to get into it? I've heard the episode where these alien angels turn to stone only when observed is pretty interesting.

Much obliged.

Hmm, if we're talking new Who "Blink" is an excellent episode but it has about 5 minutes of the Doctor. It's kinda different. I also like "Human Nature" and "The Family of Blood". One goes into another but it is interesting and Family shows off a badass Doctor. "Silence in the Library" and "Forest of the Dead" are both good episodes. "The Lodger" is a good silly one with Matt Smith. "The Empty Child" is one of the few Eccleston and Piper episodes I like.

Doctor Who is like a zombie. 40 years of rot, decay, and infectious disease, but it just keeps on pushing along. Endlessly roaming the earth in a mockery of higher quality, but mortal shows.
Lilia2010-09-03 03:33:02
Human Nature and Family of Blood are my absolute favorite New Who episodes. The Girl in the Fireplace is a great one also.
Casilu2010-09-03 03:42:49
Army of Ghosts/Doomsday, Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead, The Waters of Mars.
Gregori2010-09-03 03:56:17
I really liked Girl in the Fireplace.

You can't rule the world in hiding. You've got to come out on the balcony sometimes and wave a tentacle. smile.gif That's all I got to say.

Really? I think a lot of people underrate Eccleston 'cause he was only in it for one season, but I liked his downbeat performance. In fact, after rewatching all of nu-Who follow Tennant's departure, I probably prefer him to Tennant's portrayl, which became increasingly and unnecessarily messianic as the series progressed. "OH YOU KILLED DALEKS YOU ARE SUCH A TERRIBLE CREATURE, I WILL EXILE YOU TO A DIFFERENT UNIVERSE" - compare that to the tortured 9th Doctor waving a gun at a lone Dalek, or contemplating wiping out Earth just to stop the Emperor.

Huge fan of Matt Smith, though. That "oh crap, everything's out of control and I'm not sure what's going on, WING IT WING IT" vibe is refreshing after a season of an antihero followed by three seasons of Jesus Christ in a pinstriped suit.
Gregori2010-09-03 16:46:19
Eccleston was the best IMO. Matt Smith I hope they replace soon, I can't get into him being the Doctor. Tennant was too much tortured soul and... well Jack put it better than I can, but I could at least find him believable as the Doctor.

Eccleston was my favourite, I like Smith because he's more entertaining than Tennant had become.
