So whats the deal?
In the magical world of Not-France, the economy is crap. Dear old dad went off to fight dragons and monsters. He hasn't been heard from for a month or so. Problem is, he mortgaged the house to pay for his armor. Now his dear old daughter, Recette Lemongrass has to pay back what dad owes to the collection agency.
Fortunately for her, the collection agent is a not-unkind faerie named Tear (even faerie MBAs work horrible jobs in Not-France I guess).
Tear suggests that Recette set up a store to sell food weapons and armor to the townspeople to pay off the debt.
You get more stock by buying and selling at the market, or killing monsters and selling their stuff, Zelda style.
So why is this cool?
There are a few things going on here. Its a shop management sim combined with a psudo-roguelike dungeon delver. There is also a 'crafting' system where you combine monster parts to make stuff. You get to decorate your shop. Another interesting wrinkle is that you have the option to sell the adventurers you hire equipment you stock in your shop. So do you jack up the price to make plan by the end of the week, or give it to your adventurer on a discount so he will be better prepared for the next dungeon outing?
Also, its ... cute. :3
Demos are free and its here and on Steam.
The full product is now being carried by Steam and will be released Sept 10th for $20. Preorder for a discount.
Yeah but you're Kaalak and you have no taste, hating on Dr. Who and all
Hahahaha. You funny guy. I kill you last.
Here is a Rock, Paper, Shotgun review. Neckbeards.

Bah, the same. No fair, combining selling shiny things with hitting monsters with big swords, Kaalak!

Is this Mac compatible?

I hope GamersGate gets this game Otherwise I'll likely not buy it, even though it looks good.

So I basically love this.
@Ssaliss: http://www.carpefulgur.com/recettear/ they said that GamersGate is going to carry it. Also there it happens to link to the second Homestuck almbum, which just makes it more awesome.

I like how they give the useless little girl a week to turn a profit before taking the house.
That said, I had a pretty rough day 8 and lost the house. Fun game though.
Shiri2010-09-06 15:34:32
The only way I can see you losing day 8 is if you forget the debt's coming and spend all your money and can't sell it back in time. How'd you manage that?

I spent most of my money on an adventure on day 5-ish, which went poorly, then on day 7 I had about 6k, spent all of it on merchandise, then half my customers on day 8 just wanted to sell me candy apples and half of the other half ran away when I only asked for a 28% mark-up. Finished with like 3600
Shiri2010-09-06 15:45:36
Oh, I see. Yeah, spending money on adventures seems relaly bad early on, considering you just lose it all...when the real game comes out I'll probably just try to flog them the gear from the shop.
Ssaliss2010-09-06 15:45:38
Yeah... My first run went rather crappy as well. I traded some and decided to go on an adventure, which had me failing on the first floor. Okay, bad thing, since I decided to take my entire stock with me I tried another adventure after that, which went a bit better, but I still failed... and then day 8 came. I ended with about 5000 gold I think.
Retrying now though, and I think it's getting better. First adventure, two longsword (one +2 and one +3) and plenty of other knickknack to sell
EDIT: Oh, and when on adventures, learn to take advantage of chains. Don't run around killing the monsters all willy-nilly, be strategic.

After failing my first run, I did two more fun, successful ones just buying and selling, which is surprisingly addicting. I thought the dungeons were impossible till you got better gear, so I didn't explore them much except to pick up single items after I died the first few times, so now I'm seeing how far I can go adventuring on my fourth run. Aaaah, can't wait till it comes out.
Lehki2010-09-06 16:10:43
I ran my adventurer through all 15 levels of Jade Run, and finished with 15k. =P

Tempted to get this, because these sorts of games float my boat.

Got this game yesterday while I was browsing through Steam.
Man, it's oddly addicting. Gotta sell my sweet weapons. Yayifications.
