God perceptions and views

I think it's more because their Gods are involved, so they're too afraid to say 'I think my God teaches this in this way.' and then the god in question stares at them for a few minutes before proclaiming that they're :censor:ing stupid.

Law follows Eventru, who teaches 'Loyalty, courage, pride and purity', which seems to just be 'Leading, fighting, making pretty things and keeping things nice.'

He seems to be less 'me me me' than Fain and more 'Do things because, y'know, it's the right thing to do!'. However, there is an element of it in some of his teachings and tasks.

He seems to believe that the only useful thing about the Forests is that, invariably, you will always be able to use at least one forest or the other to fight the Tainted.

He seems to be like... Old testimate God, trials and loyalty are rewarded greatly, but maybe they're all like that?

There seems to be less to say about him than there is Fain, it's just 'Follow the light (or at least, follow me), be good, be rightious, be loyal. No whoring'

Also, he makes Law sad cuz she's still outer circle :<

Maybe less "do this for me," but a whole lot more "LOOK AT MEEEEEEEE!!"
Lawliet2010-09-05 22:11:27
Be fair, he has cut down on that flash recently, his entering the realms message no longer takes up half my screen and he uses it a lot less often (But yes, he is here).
Xavius2010-09-05 22:22:57
It's not just the entrance message! It's an entire approach to life. Even the things he designs tend to be flashy and with no fewer than three completely unsubtle allusions to an org or ideology.

You wound me, Xavius!

(I also think it's untrue!)

I think he's talking about Eventru the God, not Eventru's player, here.

I don't think you can reasonably dispute the fact that Eventru is extremely flashy and show-offy. tongue.gif

Oh, of course not. But that is what Eventru is - he's flashy, bright, radiant, loving, prideful, attention-drawing.

Though, look at the Light in general - everything is bright, beautiful and symbolic.
Lawliet2010-09-05 22:57:33
He is, yes, but it's no longer quite such a pain in the censor.gif

From my perception of Lord Lyreth, his tenets tend to fall much closer to the "Idealism" end of the scale of Idealism v Cynicism than, say, Terentia or Raezon.

The biggest sin, to Him, is murder. Killing people is, to him, a necessary evil at the absolute best, and should only be done in circumstances that are dire indeed. Each life is inherently valuable, and the taking of a life must be carefully weighed against the benefits that taking the life will provide (usually the only acceptable loss of life is killing someone to defend people or ideals). Wanton murder is inexcusable.

Likewise, love, in a familial, a patriotic, or a romantic sense, as well as love of yourself, is sacred, something that is not to be violated. Betraying those you love is unfathomable. Murder is, in turn, a betrayal of your love for the sanctity of life.

Finally, there is truth. Lying is unacceptable, and anything that you cannot accomplish without lying is a thing not worth doing. The path of truth is a hard one, but in the long term it provides rewards that cannot be gained through lies: Integrity, honour, and pride.

Being one of Lyreth's former order members, my first impression when he appeared roughly falls into...

1. Enjoy life. Stop worrying, and be happy.
2. Seek to add beauty or humour to all things. Liven things up. Jigan was accepted based on injecting humour to textbooks.
3. Spread the joy. Bring other people in on the joke, or help people laugh.

Elostian loves questions. While he's big on knowledge, he thinks that you're the only one who can gain any knowledge that's worth having; if it's given to you by someone else, it basically lacks substance and you're sort of stuck. As such, answers aren't nearly as important as questions, except insofar as answers lead you to further questions.

He really loves asking people questions, by the way, in order to evoke in them the thought processes which will lead them in the proper direction.
Aicuthi2010-09-06 17:50:15
Many people think that Elostian's teachings revolve around sounding smart, acting smart, being smart, and any other assortment of overly generic statements. While knowledge and learning is a large part of his ways, he also(whether intended or not) pushes things like discipline, hard work, and perseverance. He isn't your patron god, he's the boss that walks by your cubicle every once in a while and tells you to get cracking. Elostian will subtly test your political opinions, analyze your thought patterns, even goad you into a false sense of security - all to determine your true colours. When He does this, it's to see how well you cooperate, take orders, or go about dealing with situations in the most effective and logical way. The quality of work and how much effort you put in will hold more weight than frequency and mindless obligation.

Sometimes, figuring out what a god is about requires the ability to listen instead of speak over everyone to take the limelight.

Now than I think about it, I sorta miss Eventrus massively verbose entrances, they were fun. tongue.gif

Yep. Agreed.
