For the month of October all Iron Realms text games will be running four consecutive weekly experience challenges. Need more information? Read this article.
Iron Realms text games will be holding four weekly experience challenges for the month of October. Each challenge will begin every Monday at midnight GMT and will run for seven days each. The player who gathers the most experience over that seven day period will earn 100 bound credits and a honours line for their character.
In addition to the winning player earning 100 credits, everyone in each text game will be rewarded. Every Iron Realms text adventure game will set different experience benchmarks. Once you reach that amount of experience, you will automatically be rewarded with 5 bound credits. That means you can earn 20 bound credits just for earning experience in the text games. Couple that with the lesson gain for the month of October, and you are rocking!
Read this article for more info about the lesson gain in our text games: http://www.ironrealms.com/event/10-lessons...acter-every-day
Here is a schedule for the events in the text games:
* Monday, October 4th to Sunday, October 10th
* Monday, October 11th to Sunday, October 17th
* Monday, October 18th to Sunday, October 24th
* Monday, October 25th to Sunday, October 31th
Each event on each online text game will run from midnight to midnight GMT. Keep in mind that in the United States all these text based game events actually begin Sunday afternoon, which is when Monday begins for those in the GMT timezone.

An... interesting monthly event this time around. There'll also be the 10 lessons per day (one per 10 minutes), so no one will really miss out. I'm kinda curious where the limit for the five credits will be though (considering five credits per week isn't a whole lot, I do hope the limit is set relatively low).

How come my first reaction is "I sure wish I knew what amounts of experience even were besides really vaguely-defined percentages!"?
Anyway, interesting thing, sure. But why do I get the feeling October is going to be one really, really long aetherhunt for some people?

Because aetherhunting is still insane.

I wouldn't necessarily call it insane! It's certainly quite nice compared to other things, but I don't think it quite qualifies for insanity, especially since it was toned down a little. If aetherhunting wasn't around, it would just be one really, really long .

I wouldn't call 40% (or if it was 33%) "a little", but yeah, after the downtoning, it can't really be classified as "insane" anymore, just "nice".

This IRE-wide promotion sure doesn't make a lot of sense in Lusternia.
Ayisdra2010-09-28 20:20:16
This supports alting...its far easier to get to the highest experience starting at level 1 then it is 100...

Just wait until they throw in a "no aetherhunting" clause for the promotion.

It depends on how they measure things. In raw XP? No, not at all. It'd be easier at level 100. If they count it in levels? Then yes, it would be. It would also make it impossible for demis to even rank in the competition.

lusty anniversary is coming up, wonder how this will figure in

More nerfs for endgame!

So it's basically a Great Hunt? Except now you can aetherbash for it, and use experience modifiers.

I'd guess (hope?) golden kisses, karma bonuses etc. wouldn't apply to the rankings (although still grant you extra XP as usual) so that the playing field would be levelled somewhat.
As for aetherhunts... well, I'm kinda torn. It's a group effort, not an individual one, so I could see it not being included. It is still gaining experience though, so... well, either way would work.

If you're not counting those things then it really is just a great hunt, with the numbers just scaled up.

Well, a week-long great hunt with only one winner and only one tier of credits... I suppose.

Is anyone else feeling a bit of event fatigue? I find myself longing for a month whose event is "there aren't any IRE-wide events so you can finally do the things you haven't been able to do because everyone's always busy competing in IRE-wide events" just once. Then again, other people are able to scrounge up people to do things, so maybe it wouldn't help.
Gleip2010-09-28 22:28:40
The interesting thing is, Lusternia is the one textgame where this is contest can actually be fair, since Aetherhunting works of an algorithm where you get more experience the higher level you are, so making the experience count work of that same algorithm, the winner is the one who spends the most time aetherhunting.

Yeah... I think if you've been getting told that, people are probably just using it for an excuse. What have they ever done besides Great Hunts that's time consuming?

Hope to get Titan within the next few weeks so I can start working on Demi. Nice in-game incentives towards this end!

So you want to use the reverse of the aetherhunting experience algorithm on whatever experience is earned? Hmm. Without seeing it in action, it'd be very hard to have comments on it, but from what I've seen people with low levels gets next to nothing from aetherhunting, and if you reverse that they'd get an insane edge over the rest of the players when it comes to the rankings.
