Would it be too far to start disfavouring someone after their 4th or 5th serious mischan of the day?

I recommend doing away with the CLT command, making everyone spell out CLAN (name) TELL instead.
We could also just do away with the notion of OOC clans... (yeah, not going to happen, either of them).

Actually, this would be really really really great to have server side, instead of having to make an alias for each clan to do just that, and having to fix them all whenever you drop a clan. It's rather annoying once you get 20+ clans!

I've always aliased the CLAN (name) TELL syntax, but most people use CLT or CLT#, it seems. They either don't know about the longer syntax or they just don't want to alias it.

Most just don't know. I'm switching all of mine over, but I didn't hear about CLAN OCTAVE TELL, etc. until you mentioned it here. More publicity would probably help with some of the problem. (doesn't work for Nexus, though, since you can't alias {*} wildcards to catch more than one word, if I remember right.)

setalias myclan clan myclan tell

I don't know what you're talking about, especially since I think you CAN use {*} like that, but all my aliases, which I've had for years, read:
Pattern: seg
Script: clan seg tell $0
the $0 means "whatever follows the pattern." I still get mistells sometimes but it's not due to ct/clt screwups. Pretty easy.
