It's really hard to time it, because you have to not only time their blackout, but also fit it in between your blackout, and the variability of when they're going to attack you. And if you miss you can't use it again that combat. It's more like, if you happen to get the timing just right, and someone dies to it (and realizes they did), they'll yell OP, but the number of times it didn't work (and they probably didn't even know you tried) won't occur to them. Frankly, the hypnotic gaze of a beast, though more random, is actually more reliable for a well-timed blackout attack.
