I would be really upset. sad.gif

I might be in a minority. I can't really take more than an hour or two of aetherhunting at a time, but I do really enjoy it, and not just for e.z.e.x.p. I keep my hunts rigorously IC and try to make sure people are attentive the whole time (my shorter trips help with that, I guess). I also recently put $200 into an artifact pack, so that'd be kind of a bummer.

You wouldn't use an Aeromancer, you'd use one of the orphans at the Commissariat for Offspring Temporary Management.

You sure that's an orphanage and not a daycare? eyepoke.gif

I love aetherhunting with Daraius. laugh.gif I might not get as much experience as I would if I were on one of those HUGE MEGA ULTRA HUNTS, but he always keeps me entertained. STAMP OF APPROVAL.

Yeah yeah either way, you leave your kids alone, that's fair game.

I love you, please take me for aetherhunts, I cannot stand the OOC-ness of most aetherhunts and the aforementioned PEW PEW jokes.

Pretty much this.

If I'm going to be in an aethership, I expect to be feeling comatose the entire time, which is what happens beyond the 2 hour mark. Being able to listen to others or work on other things while strapped into a module is a plus.
Ileein2010-10-31 19:05:24
I get to ramble on about things on aetherhunts. It's quite fun.

...for me.

I imagine the bitter, old people would have to find something new to complain about!

Rave, though:

Getting back 81. Yes, via aetherhunting, but I haven't gone aetherhunting since August.
Lendren2010-10-31 20:59:43
Actually, aetherhunting already existed back when I was doing my push through titanhood. I owned one of the larger ships and had more diamonuts than almost anyone, and had a clan dedicated to trying to make aetherspace active. But the rewards in experience and gold were generally lower than solo hunting, so it was very hard to get any aetherhunts to happen, and those that did happen were mostly because it was fun, not because it was the easy ticket to anything. Yes, back then it actually was inherently fun, not merely "it can be fun with the right people".

I was one of those pushing for increasing the rewards until they were enough to get people to participate, and enough to begin to make up for the high cost of investment; and I still think that was the right thing to do. I don't even mind that it makes titanhood so much less agonizing -- even when I'm surprised about how easy it is nowadays -- because that agonizing grind was never a great idea, and I'm certainly not here to say it should go back to the bad old days.

But I do kind of miss how aetherhunting was fun. I suppose it was an inevitable effect of making it viable: now people are doing it for reasons other than the camaraderie of being part of a crew, so while it's nowhere near as hard to get people to go out, it's just as hard, or harder, to get people who want to go out for the reasons I always wanted to go out. Be careful what you wish for.

It's actually very difficult to get a crew together...pilots and empaths are rare creatures. Even rarer is a pilots who can captain a trip where solo hunting doesn't gains more experience. So it looks like it's gone back to square one, with far more negativity towards it. It is somewhat ridiculous that people have to feel a need to justify why they've been aetherhunting.

Even more ridiculous when the people complaining are those who also take part in aetherhunts. You can't complain about something you do yourself, that's called being a hypocrite.

Rather, it seems that people are gaining more experience because of double experience days, achievements, an artifact that gives double experience. Incentive (like weekranks) to hunt more than you might otherwise for a reward. Astral hunting also yields far more experience than an aetherhunt does.

Somewhat silly that people nark on aetherhunting simply because it has a giant, red, flashing target.

lolwut?

I went from level 99 and 0% to 99 and 12% via aetherhunting. That took just under three hours.

Astral bashing/influencing has been netting me ~4% over about six hours. (if I push really hard) That is with human race, harmony, multiple achievements and lowmagic boost as and when I can use it.

I am totally sticking to bashing/influencing for the remaining grind, though. Aetherhunting -is- pretty sick.

Yes, but in a relative sense, it's still hard, but 1/1000th as hard as it was at the time I discussed.

(The disparity people report about how much experience aetherhunting is worth doesn't surprise me. I've been on some of the aetherhunts Lilian's been on and, indeed, astral is far better. The ones my Hallifaxian character went on were even less. But I've been on others that were three, four times as good as the ones I was on with Lilian. It's incredible how much of a difference can be made.)

One word: Laxinova.

She was the first person who took me aetherhunting, and it was the funnest thing I'd ever done.

I'm talking ur'bashing with either Fillin or Estwald. They've always given me way more experience than aetherhunting.

Every time I glance sideways at a node, four lobstrosities come out of nowhere and eat my face. Even if I'm on Capricorn.

I think Inagin has some sort of agreement with Kethuru going on. He keeps spitting dragons at us and we don't shoot Him in the pills. This is part of what lead to him having a score resembling a social security number.

Thus, I stick to aetherspace in spite of a personal dislike for some of the other crew members.

We're getting there! We've got a few really hardworking people right now who dutifully respond to every defense call and, from where I sit, we seem to be getting steadily better.

I have high hopes!

You know, asshole comments like Vadi's sometimes just shouldn't be acknowledged. No reason to defend yourself to him.
