It's an event, be happy about that.
Achaea went 6 months without anything interesting happening, and, when events do happen there? There is no risk, no threat, nothing to really make players think there could be consequences.
I, for one, applaud the administration for creating dangerous events, scary events that make us think - if even only for a few minutes - that everything just might not work out for us.

This is something I agree with. If you don't want to participate, just wait it out. And be quiet.

The admin never ceases to surprise me at how bad they get at making events. What's the purpose of an event that basically says "log out for 7 days, and if you're logged in, don't interact with anyone. You may infect/get infected".
I'm actually playing as much as I normally would, chasing some loose clues, doing whatever I can to gather info/figure out this event. It's more than it looks like.

Ah, I was not aware you had cut it in half; but if it went from 10 to 20 minutes-ish on average, that's still a bit too much IMO. A nice fire an hour or so would probably be about right, without having to worry about being on top of it frequently.
If it's already around that then I'm already happy and just am not aware of that fact yet.

Every time I get involved with an event, they suck for me. I just learned to avoid them...
like the plague.

Agreed.
Also, this event has made Aeral go... "WTF?!" because it seems like the entire world as she knew it is just being destroyed and it's blowing her mind. That, along with the plague, are making for terrific RP.

I fail to see how anyone can enjoy having to put out fires every five minutes and RP this stupid quarantine thing... but okay! Just wait it out and be quiet? Sure.
Unknown2010-12-13 23:31:30
I kinda want to just get infected already, but it would completely go against my character's RP to purposefully do so. Blagh.

Pretty sure that nobody is enjoying the fires, really. Apparently they've been toned down, and if they're down to once an hour or so we're 'good'-- the intent is there but we don't need to be dedicated to watching it for the entire online time (would prefer none, but I think they want forests to have some kind of 'something to do internally' so that probably won't happen).
As far as the quarantine goes; don't work at the quarantining TOO hard on an OOC level, get infected, enjoy the event.

So before work I had this great idea for an illuminati mask for the contest and was going to design it at work. I get here and completely forget what I wanted to do
Mirami2010-12-13 23:37:26
Eh, I wholeheartedly disagree with the 'enjoy it or shut up' aspect. If people aren't having fun with it, they should say so, so the Admin know that at least a part of what they though would be fun is actually horribly annoying, and can fix it (see: Forest Fires).

We had the elementals. Killed a number of our novices, too. But those too seem to be much more toned down now.
Fires seem worse to deal with.

Yeah, the elementals no longer cause blackout or break limbs. Have had a lot less people dying to them since. That's good, at least!

Yeah, man, three in a room, perma black-out. But at least we can track the elementals.

Agreed. I would like to see a forest fire locator of some kind, even if just a compass of a sort for a rough area indication.

Hey, I'm pretty sure that most of you know when I'm annoyed about something that I loudly and plainly speak my mind. Frequently, and repeatedly.
(End-game discussion I am holding off for now on because of the holidays, though it's about time to bring that up again; will probably be in January)
At the same time, it's not a bad thing to break out of your patterns and enjoy a curve ball now and then when it's not something that is mechanically forcing you to spend your entire online game time tracking down something to exterminate it. As long as you're still able to play the game, or sit around hanging out, or whatever... I'm perfectly happy with suggesting that the people who are complaining about it take a step back, reconsider, and actually give it a try.

For me it's not the event per se that's keeping me away, it's how certain people act during events. It annoys me and I honestly don't want to deal with it, so I just drop in to check messages, news, see how things are going, logout and go play other games.

The fires would be much more fun if they were, you know, massive forest fires. And much less frequent. It would give people something to do. Having one room set on fire just means that whoever finds it first puts it out, and every else wasted their time for nothing. If it spread quickly and was rather large, more people could actually go find it, put it out, and have something to do. You'd just need to tone it way down then, couple times a day instead of several times an hour.
