The gnomes are making me wonder if it wouldn't be much better if you couldn't unwrap the presents you got from the gnomes you influenced, essentially forcing you to hand out those gifts to others. I'm sure it'd cut back on something as lame as stealing gnomes.

I was very happy today, on the topic of gnome-stealing. Someone accidentally stole a gnome from me, then realized a couple minutes later that they had, and gave the present to me, even though they were from Gaudiguch. At first I was very sad that my gnome was gone, but then I was happy because I got him back, in a way! Nice people rock.
Question: Do you all think it would be better for me to do my gift giveaway after Solstice, or just do it during it? I'm worried some people will still be out for holiday reasons and miss it, but the presents only last for the rest of the month. And how should I go about doing it? I was thinking I could either hand the presents out to people online in the city randomly with random.org, or maybe have a scavenger hunt type deal with hidden gifts. These would be with empty Solstice giftboxes that I've been amassing during this whole thing, filled with stuff of my choosing (i.e., comms, gold, maybe a letter that tells the person they win one or two dingbats from me, etc.)

Nah, people would still steal gnomes to give to their friends just as much.
Gleip2010-12-24 14:25:04
From what I'm hearing, most people are stealing for themselves. And it would make it impossible to steal gifts for yourself. Really, for something supposed to be the season of sharing, you hear a lot of greed, especially on the OOC channels.
And scavenger hunt for certain, that'd be a lot of fun, (though should probably only allow one gift for each person). And wait until the 27th or around that. Even if people are celebrating christmas at home, they're still celebrating christmas (or whatever) and have better things to do than log onto Lusternia.

I decided to do it with half the presents in a scavenger hunt, and half sent out randomly. Scavenger hunts are fun, but not everyone can be around for them! As for the date, that's probably the best. I'll do the scavenger hunt portion first, then just use Fata to deliver presents like a Hallifax-only Ironbeard over the next day or two until I run out of boxes/decent gifts. I hope people have fun with it! I know I will.

I'll just file the paperwork retroactively like all the cool bureaucrats do.

I didn't know that illusions were illegal in Hallifax, heh.

It's just illegal to illusion things at the nexus. Or to leave programmed illusions around the city.

Ah, okay. I was just surprised when I was there for the herofete and someone did an illusion and it was sorta like "ILLUSIONRAGEBADIMMAYELLATCHU".
We actually used scripts during some of the last events to notify people of things. >.>

Obviously. So if you prevent that, they'll steal for their best friends, who will in turn steal for them. Accomplished: nothing.

You're totally exaggerating I was standing right there. It was a "for whoever just wove an illusion, that is illegal, so please do not do it again". No yelling, just informing!

Alternatively: Market Trading my presents for your presents so we can each open them!

Hallifax scares Aeral though. In a way, she would fit there very well, but she felt very unnerved after that. >.> /enough forumrp

There would still be less people doing that I think. It's easy enough to be greedy for yourself. Being greedy for others is an entirely different matter, as it adds one more person to check your greed.

It's best to pretend that doesn't exist. Life is a lot better that way. Ignorance is bliss--wait. If ignorance is bliss, and ignorance is punishable in Hallifax by law... I'm too tired to decide if I am promoting illegal IG activity OOCly. Carry on then.

One thing the Gnafia event has left me asking:
What was the point of Verse 4? The one that told everyone to find the Hand?
Can't complain since I just so happened to be going for my orgbix at the time, anyways, but we never did find that 'final key'.
