I've come to notice that in Hallifax, the upper castes don't fight simply because they can't get past that big entrance barrier. A lot of Hallifax's leaders are simply, relative to the other leaders of the Basin, new at the game which makes getting into combat even more difficult. This barrier is doubly so present because they aren't all Demigods, are all pansy untanky trill that drop at a dime and are all much better at influencing anyways.

For me personally? I have been playing since March, and that goes for all MUDs period (and that is a learning curve in and of itself). I think in that time, I've had about two people who took me aside for consistent one-on-one combat training and both have stopped playing. On the one hand, that gave me Treant and some aliases (as well as the ability to make aliases) but on the other hand, things stunted on that end for me for awhile. I'm sparring and trying to figure out what things do but it's definitely completely bizarre to me. I've inquired about guild skills and such, etc, but really I find myself mostly asking people who aren't in my own guild about things. Though much love to Phoebus, because she's helped me in some of those areas. wub.gif

I mean really, I still see Orventa/Maellio coming out for raid defenses and village revolts and everywhere it matters. Top-tier combatants? Not really. Trying? Definitely, and that's what counts. If I had to name Hallifax's most capable fighters right now it'd probably be Phoebus and Prav. No offense to everyone else that shows.
Pretty much accurate on all counts.

Explaining your abject poverty, you humbly request a little help from a trill
servant garbed in olivine clothing.
A trill servant garbed in olivine clothing sighs dramatically and searches his
pockets, looking for something to give you.
He gives many golden sovereigns to you.

Not to burst anyone's bubble, but it's not like there are really any raids to show up to in the first place. That is how down with the upkeep we are on fighters.

Apparently one of the reasons I'm being contested is so there can be an advancement system past GR4... but there is already one. It's not even hard.. you just have to come up with tasks and run it by a guild leader. confused.gif

Some of the things that come out of elections (heck even elections that don't exist yet) in Gaudiguch can be so... head-scratchingly huh.

No, but you look like PersonWithPositionToBribeThePatron. sad.gif

All you need is a Spiritsinger or Hartstone with Ecology, you know.

Prav is a great boon, just by the way. I don't think enough people appreciate him. sad.gif Anything I know about Researcher combat (not much, but still), he told me.

We tried to sell a banana cupcake with maple frosting and bacon crumbles for Fathers Day, but apparently people in my area just can't handle that kind of forward thinking. Bacon has been a permissible dessert item for a long time, people!! Don't freak out!

EDIT: As for combat. It's just not any fun for me whatsoever, so I don't do it. I want my games to be fun, and I'm not interested in making an un-fun part of it tolerable at best by buying a system, switching clients, and practicing for hours.

Whee! My designs, they are liked!

Guess I should design with more bacon, heeee

Great, someone kills Lanikai after I've slain 50 quinotaurs. Thanks a bunch for making me burn my last 500 gold on healing potions on 50 now useless quinotaur corpses.

Edit: Literally last gold, I don't even have enough gold to refill even one of my now emptied healing vials.

Thankfully, I can still influence and still have bromides. Still, quite ticked off about it.

She's part of Celest's epic quest, so Mags like to kill her. They can still be offered. And you can make some money off the gold drops from the anglerfish, dragonfish, and such down there.
Unknown2010-10-28 15:43:08
Arath: Thanks for the offer, but I can influence for gold back. It's more of the frustration factor rather than the bankrupt factor.

Ilyssa: True, true and true, but still frustrating. That's a loss of 7500 gold right there, not to mention the time spent. For me, gold means more than XP, as I'm in need of lessons, so this is fairly painful to me.

Edit: Ergh, still feeling bitter about it, but venting about it helped. A little.

Edit2: Thanks for trying to help, Ilyssa, maybe once I'm not so caught up in the moment I'll appreciate your effort more.

You don't bash quinotaurs if you want gold, usually. :S

Oh well, lesson learnt: Check Lanikai before attempting to exterminate the quinotaurs.

Oh. Hrm, at least now I remember those bashing spots that I had forgotten. Positive point #1!

And eh, Astral. No Conglutinate yet, not tanky either.
