Yeah, but he also started going bat insane from solitude! Sort of, anyway.

Was it not a mortal that restores the Nine Seals to abate the Soulless? Not to mention saving Elostian, restoring Hallifax from time, etc.
You should read the Histories, they're full of examples.
You should read the Histories, they're full of examples.
I think you're making faulty comparisons. Had an elder god like Terentia or Kalikai wanted to, running around collecting bits of Elostian and slapping them back together would be something they could do. Restoring Hallifax from its time-lock was only accomplished via the Hand of Tzaraziko, wherein steady, repeated attempts to drain Hallifax's nexus finally succeeded and the cities were brought out of their trap.
Could an Elder God have done the same thing? Sure. Slowly, surely, over time an elder god could've achieved the same end result. Probably if a god like Xyl were around, he'd have broken it decades ago. Not that time is really relevant to Elder Gods.
Similarly, the first person to restore the broken seals was not a mortal, but rather an Elder God, albeit via a different manner.
Why does Eventru hang around Celest? Well, he's always been fond of the Supernals, he has mound is on Celestia. Likewise, while chronologically, to mortals, the Supernals came first, to Eventru, he came first - rather, he might point out that the Supernals' ideals are a result of the positive influence of the Hamadhi and the Elder Gods (or an innate 'goodness' in Elder Gods), and that love, purity, justice, mercy, defense of the weak, devotion are all part of a 'natural' state of higher awareness, that those in possession of true souls would default to that - and those who act contrary to that are acting as a result of unhealthy, unnatural influences.
Or that's where I think the argument would go, anyways.

As I remember, Kalikai wasn't even in the First World during that event, and I don't see Terentia rushing to Elostian's rescue since he left Celest. Is it something they could do? Yes. Did they? No. I also recall Saaga initiating that effort with the Hand of Tzaraziko.
I'm not suggesting mortals are capable of omnipotent feats. On the contrary, we break easily and make a lot of mistakes. We do however, have inherent uses to Divine, whether they'd like to admit it or not. Regarding the Seals, if the Elders have a better method of strengthening them, why do they allow Ascensions to take place? Is it just some sort of anticlimactic event that Elders oversee because they're too lazy to do anything about it? Is it a privilege we are allowed for some greater purpose?
I still stand by my opinion that mortals are inextricably attached to the ongoing affairs of Lusternia.
Edit: By extension of Eventru's logic, the Soulless came before any Elder did. So really, what is healthy or unnatural?
Eventru2011-03-02 19:37:59
Kalikai was actually the reason Elostian was broken apart (Granted, had she not, Elostian would've been caught on the edge of Zenos' prison for an eternity, I imagine). I said they had a method, I didn't say it was a better one. It was quite some time ago, so I'm surprised you don't remember it - Isune used her own life force to restore the fractured seals and broken Seal of Nature. You won't see any of us willingly stepping up if there's an 'easier' way, for sure. But could an Elder God do the same thing? I imagine so.
As to the argument, I did say 'with a soul'! Though if it's one you're genuinely interested in having, you'll need to have it IC (or write a book on it! Omnomnom, books).
And I'm not arguing mortals aren't inextricably attached - only pointing out that 'mortals do all of this' with the implication of 'and elder gods can't' is a weak one. Really, if you ask me, the days of the Elder Gods are over, and they're more or less there to join in the watching fun, to see what crazy thing mortals do next! My opinion on that subject is that mortals are more or less the Elder God's legacy. I suspect there's some sentimental value in how the Elder Gods view mortals - but again, I think if you really want to find out the gods' motives for doing as they do, finding it out in-game.
I'm sure we'd all be happy to speak on it! Except Fain. He'd be absolutely raging over having to speak on it. Though I think that's his normal state...

Nonsense, the Elders don't watch to see what crazy mortals do next, they look on like cranky old folks and complain about how kids these days are ruining all the good things and have no respect for anything.
The Divine Havens are in fact, a giant old folks home.

I was more referring to when He's trapped in Xion. My memory on that one is fuzzy though.
What I meant to say was mortals have some niche advantages when it comes to getting certain things done. That's very interesting though, how some Elders consider themselves invested spectators. I have a theory on why mortals fan their divine spark, but I'll keep it to myself. :x
