In Astrology, if a planet is retrograde or not decides if it is an inversion or not. In Tarot, it depends on if the card is upside down or not. You could flip a coin, pretend that you're shaking the runes, then throw them. If the coin comes up heads, then the rune comes up head, and it is good. If the coin comes up tails, the rune comes up tails, and it is bad. The exact RP behind it is something you can do yourself, but the coinflip on it being good or bad prevents the "on a whim" feel.
I'm using an alias to just shake 3 runes from my runebags at random, guess I could just through in some more random cases to decide that.
Shake 3 out, then drop each of them on the ground and let an alias randomly decide on a prefatory emote showing how it landed.
EDIT: on a side note I wish runes lasted longer then a month outside of runebags. xP

You guys obviously haven't been in Hallifax. We suck at guard placement and suck even more at replacing them.

You have to keep in mind that a lot of Hallifax's currently active population is made up of relatively new players. Things that everyone else has down by now are concepts we're still getting used to. Many of our people who can place guards don't actually know how (they tend to ask me, and I don't really know either, considering I have never actually had to place a guard anywhere). The response by the veteran population (assuming they're the sort who even gets involved in things like conflict; if they aren't, they're about in the same boat as the legitimately new people) tends to be "WHY ARE YOU ALL SO RETARDED" instead of "here's how you do this".
I used to try to manage how many guards we put in certain places, such as things like hey, we should probably put more dudes at the important place than we do at a village that doesn't actually have anything worthwhile to protect. Like I'm not really sure what's going on with Rockholm's guard placement, but if I had to guess, it's probably something like "I am so sick of replacing these guards, WHATEVER". 13 is such a weird number of guards to put somewhere.
Anyway tl;dr: if you have the knowledge, please offer advice to the people who legit need it.

Guards everywhere!
Hell if I know really.

In regards to the guards on Air, there were supposed to be twenty, but the other guild -still- hasn't put any up. And yes, we're still trying to figure out good numbers.

Haha, if I was logging in during peak hours lately, I'd probably be all..."Guards on Air? What? Why don't you use that power to guard something important instead?" Of course right now Phoebus is an off-peak hours ghost, responsible for harvesting commodity production items and leaving the bounty in desks. Spooky. So instead I'll say:
Guards on Air? Why don't you use that power to guard something important instead?
EDIT: Well the Wind Lords aren't empowered 3/4 of the time so I guess there's not much that we actually accomplish by killing them- OH HEY LOOK A SMALL PILE OF GUARDS! It's like Christmas!
Oh no auugh splat
can you tell I'm extremely sleep deprived at the moment
DOUBLE EDIT: Ok basically the point I'm trying to make here is that all you really accomplish by putting guards on Air is giving attackers something else to kill, except this something else they can kill costs us way more than killing a stupid Wind Lord or two does. Like the thought behind it I know is just "maybe they will stop killing our dudes/kill our dudes less" but really all I can see it accomplishing is giving them more dudes to make dead.

Psst. Cut back on the coffee.

20-25+ guards on anything important. None of which are villages that aren't mining or UV ones. Unless you really love guards. Standguard them, permanent if they're at the entrance to the village or at important mob x.
There, all you need to know about guards in 4 sentences.

Lehki2011-03-16 21:03:24
UV ones ARE mining villages.
Lilia2011-03-16 21:08:01
Heh, people kept asking why we didn't have guards on Air, so I figured if we put some up, and they immediately got killed, people would figure out why we don't put guards on Air. Plus, it's a little annoying to be unable to group up to defend because the enemies camp the nexus. For me, it's not about killing the Wind Lords, it's about killing our citizens.

Obvious solution? We need more guards to protect our guards! Yes indeed my friends. I am talking about the motherload of guard placement, 200+ guards to protect our guards on air. Let's do it!
Lehki2011-03-16 21:15:35
You should do it just so we can laugh when he gets shrubbed for AFK influencing all day.

We need an infinite number of guards to protect the other guards that are protecting the guards.

We had like two monks there, and that's not what killed you.
Neither of which are active combatants. Now if Veyrzhul had been there...
