@Iasmos: Yes because obviously people who're able to maintain domoths have little time for their personal lives. I love your subtle and misplaced insults. It's not that hard to maintain a domoth. At crown, you have almost a week not to worry about it. Can even let the entire thing drop to sceptre before bothering, which a lot of people do. Who are you kidding, really? You play as much as most other players. Basically, some people just suck(ed) at being ascendants and were a waste of power.
Unknown2011-07-09 20:17:25
I typically play a couple hours a day, which means I almost always miss when a Domoth is free and not dormant, so I'm not there for that very small window of opportunity.
And, jeez, it wasn't an insult. I'm honestly worried about some people...
Way to start a rant, though!

I only get a couple of hours a day myself (excluding weekends)... I see domoths more often than I do villages / flares!
Malicia2011-07-09 20:20:10
Yeah I miss most of the villages/flares. The villages are too short though. (whine)

You kind of insulted someone indirectly too I know Serenwilde has two Ascendants and one of them tries for Domoths or at least helps get them into our side's hands whenever they can. Not being able to hold a domoth is a problem with the commune itself, which is something we're working on. I'm not the person in question, but I can imagine feeling indignant if I were that person and hearing that they weren't participating.

Was probably pretty offensive too!
Unless you have a proper grasp of what's going on with cities/communes internally, please just hold back these types of comments!

He brings out the best in me. Anyhow, my initial comment wasn't meant to be insulting. I am questioning the lack of participation from orgs that do invest in ascendants. Domoths (like wildnodes) were meant to be another avenue for some conflict but very few orgs take part and most claims are dull now. Lusternia might as well be a competition between Glomdoring, Magnagora and Celest.
Edit: I think I enjoy village revolts so much is because everyone seems to like to go for them and a challenge is fun. Imagine if wildnodes were uncontested and one org simply sat up there winning each month. Sounds like a real blast to moi.

I know you probably didn't mean anything by it, but it really isn't Hallifax's, Gaudiguch's or Serenwilde's fault that they aren't as big contenders as the others. Most of the older players are concentrated in the other orgs, and the rest of us have to play catch-up and figure things out ourselves. Don't worry, one day Lusternia will have 6 equally formidable orgs, but right now people are trying to get on their feet.

Serenwilde doesn't have a problem with number of older players. We're not trying to get on our feet. If we had ever written things down and passed on the knowledge, we wouldn't be in this situation. We're not a new org and lumping us in with Gaudiguch and Hallifax is nothing but an attempt to pass blame. The "all of our superstar players moved away" excuse only goes so far. I indulge in once in a while, but it doesn't help anything.
Yes, I'm one of those older players, so part of the blame is mine.

Man don't say that, they might try and delete Glomdoring again.

Competition only between Celest, Glom and Mag? All I know is that I'm in a hell of a competition with Eliron and Lendren!
Anyway, from my experience, Prav was pretty much Hallifax's only combat leader, organising raids, calling targets, stuff like "BALESTONE ON ENTRY!" etc. With him gone Hallifax is left with a few people willing to try, but who lack the experience to lead effectively, and when faced against the RL years of Celest/Glom combat experience/coordination, things generally don't go well. We also seem to have a weird population, some periods there's almost no one around, then at other times it can be tipping twenty...
Even so, there are a few of us who are slowly trying to improve ourselves and our coordination, and the "combatants can't get CR6" impediment has long been removed. But yes, a good combat leader would definitely help us along the road, and until someone steps up, I think Hallifax will always be hanging onto someone else's coat-tails.

I'm happy as long as we have a happening theatre scene.
Some day I've really got to write something of my own, though.

Well, I'm trying to be a combat leader. Part of the issue is I'm new to Lusternia so I'm having to relearn combat from the ground up, the other issue is very few people actually listen to me, when they would listen to Prav, even though I use the exact same calling as him, and have added many things. The other issue is most of our combatants are gone so everyone that follows is a non-com and doesn't know what they are supposed to be doing. Even when I call strategy stuff, people just don't follow it so I'm at a loss of what to do at this point

I imagine trying to coordinate us is like trying to herd cats at times! Especially when it's stuff like "Bloody hell, stupid auto-reject, how do I turn you off again? Oh wait, there's the group gone while I was off balance," that gets me.
That said, remember not all of us play to shape our characters around combat and a good leader will make the best of what he has available.

Hallifax should also remember that not everyone shapes their character around art or scienceand that combat is a huge aspect of the game, which generally means not treating combatants like crap.

Then don't have art and science folk at the top of the social latter and combatants in the middle?

There's a difference between "The highest value is placed on art and science" and "lol I pretend like I do research and paint things, so I can treat people who fight like utter garbage". Also, I've never seen anyone of the other middle caste people like merchants or bureaucrats treated as poorly as Hallifax has treated its combatants despite them being on the same rung of the social ladder.
