Or, y'know, just use Notepad.
Been saying that for years and it hasn't worked so I thought we might as well try this approach.

Protip: In Microsoft Word 2003, go to Tools, AutoCorrect Options, the AutoFormat As You Type tab, and under "Replace as you type" uncheck all the items. Do the same thing on the AutoFormat tab. Click OK all the way out. Do this before you use Word to prepare a bardic, or a new design, or a news post, or anything else to do with Lusternia. Do it now. That way you won't have all the apostrophes, quotes, dashes, etc. disappear, or turn into garble-noise.
Someone with other versions of Word, please post the directions for those, too.

Oh yes, ok! Here, I have Word 2010, and had to fix this a while back myself:
File, Options. Then click the Proofing tab, and click the button that says AutoCorrect Options. Then click on the tab that says AutoFormat As You Type, and uncheck all the boxes underneath "Replace as you type"; ESPECIALLY the ones for "smart quotes", which are responsible for causing missing apostrophes.
I do all of my designing in notepad, but write newsposts in Word. The first time I made a newspost with no apostrophes in it to Hallifax's newsboard? Was the last time. I hereby motion that "smart quotes" be renamed "stupid quotes"!!

I use Notepad++ for both writing and coding.
Simplenote for writing that takes longer than a session, because I use it on the go with my iPod Touch and it auto-syncs, so no need to worry about losing unsaved writing.

Stupid technology botching critical character development opportunities.
It doesn't always happen, but when it does, it's always around the same time. Right around 12:30-1:00 AM, my internet just disappears and my modem starts looking for a signal. Whyyyy?

Does not compute.

I use MudBot's editor.
In fact, I don't actually use MudBot for anything EXCEPT writing news posts/designs/help files.
But that might be a little too complicated.
Vadi2010-12-01 14:54:02
Mudlets / Nexus / MudBots editors should be fine for that, yep. (though mudbots has been crashy for some people. so, ctrl+a, ctrl+c before submitting)

Yes, this has been known to happen; I write everything in Word to catch spelling errors/check that I'm being British for designs, then copy into MudBot.

Is it just me, or has it been a while since the Charites have responded to any requests for patterns or commodities?
Eventru2010-12-01 15:48:00
Patterns are a very large undertaking to add, and so is not often done. Similarly, the Charites never respond as far as I am aware, to requests posted on the Trademaster board. They are, however, read and taken under consideration. New commodities are added as the Charites feel they're needed. Suggestions are of course welcome, as people are wont to do!
Best I can offer you, on that topic, though.

Well, by respond I'd meant if anything had changed, not as a written response. It just feels like it's been a pretty long time since a new commodity has been added or anything, despite lots of requests for them.
Lendren2010-12-01 16:25:40
Lots of commodities have been added, but we haven't gotten any new patterns for RL years, except for ones that they decided on, as opposed to ones we asked for, so far as I know.
Kiradawea2010-12-01 16:36:30
Copy/paste from Word into Notepad. Replace all ". Go to town.

You have scored a CRITICAL hit!
The blade shears through a serpentine starsucker's body, coming clean through the other side with a strangely quiet swish. He appears momentarily surprised, before his eyes glaze over in death and he collapses to the ground.
You have slain a serpentine starsucker.
A bit of light essence tumbles out of a serpentine starsucker.
Many golden sovereigns spill from the corpse.
You suddenly scoop up the corpse of a serpentine starsucker.

That's beast battle with aggressive, with a level 13 beast. The WSC didn't kill a starsucker, and an Oblit didn't even break "light wound".
So one of those teeny little attacks every 10 seconds- almost doesn't seem worth the beast balance. I mean, on stuff that would probably never kill you anyway, sure, but for anything else, having beast heal available seems like a far better investment.
Unknown2010-12-01 16:44:36
It would be nice to up that just a little, but I still like it just for the flavor of hunting with my good beast friend.
Daraius2010-12-01 16:46:34
I haven't figured out how to make my bird viable while I'm hunting. Can't have him heal me in the middle of a form as far as I know, but the occasional bodyguard saves are totally worth bringing him along.

You gotta add a health check to your balance recovering line, to have it heal off of that before you do your next form.
EDIT: And yeah, beast attack is rather minor even with aggressive, but think that's where they wanted it. I try to think of it as just a minor buff to my normal attack, that, just happens to crit separately. <,<
There has been a few times where the beast would get a killing blow, and then my normal shot would crit and 1 shot the next mob in the room. 2 kills at once is rather nice to see. x3

I love that aspect as well which I feel is worth the number of trains Battle requires, but with as many trains as Aggressive requires, it should have a bigger effect.

I'm with Lehki, except I think it's the cost that should come down, rather than increasing the damage.
