I'm actually still not sure how I feel about that change. On the one hand, Aquas really needed it. On the other, Geos really didn't...One day, I'd like to see a comparison of Aqua-Maelstrom verses Geo-Pollute verses Pyro-Inferno verses Aero-Cyclone given equal buffs (aside from guild specific ones like the geo's raise staff), same race, same base stats, and same levels of magic rune. I fully expect Pollute to hit harder, I'm just curious how much harder that is, and how much of the Fillin Pollute-o'-Doom is due to him being Fillin.

Also: Mag should only be allowed to use Fillin once per Lusternian month. Raiding with him back to back is like carpet bombing with Fat Man as the ordinance.

Pollute will always hit harder than Maelstrom because the only commonly available Poison resistances are in Totems and Glomdoring. Blacktalon have some of the game's best poison resistance- 74 DMP, including Snake, Crow Cloak and Garb - and it still hurts like a bitch.

Edit to your edit: Second in line, I imagine, would be Aeromancers. Lightning resistance is fairly scarce outside of Hallifax, though Galvanism helped address this. Aqua vs. Pyro is a tossup, because they're both very easy to resist, but more races have a Fire weakness than there are races with a Cold weakness.

It doesn't kill effects, so people have this unnerving tendency to time the Pollute to hit right before a meld hit, so just in case the poison damage doesn't knock you out, the subsequent stun and damage meld does.

Hardly needed since so many people curl up and die to the first hit anyway, but it's still there.

PS: Fury is 100% cutting. Cry about your fire damage s'more.

It was changed in the demesne report (or shortly after?), when they nerfed effects to only hit adjacent, and reduced demesne sizes.

Pollute et al are all no-source damage, meaning geo raise staff (which is +magic source) won't help, nor will a magic rune. I think war blessing, vendetta etc. still do. But yes, the only subsequent difference is in damage types.

I'm not quite sure about pollute's old source ... the AB said it was magic-source for a long time, whereas the others were labelled no-source. Supposedly pollute never had a source and the AB was just wrong, though.
