I think 'Ileein' is gender-neutral sounding, to me. My only assumptions are that names ending in A or I (or certain combinations, like 'ea', 'ia', 'ie' etc.) are female, while names ending in O (espcially if short) are male.

Going by deathsights, I'm going to say this was a case of "wrong place, wrong time." You took a trip through faethorn while there was fighting going on, and they probably thought you guys were there to help Seren, not just passing through.
