I don't think I'm going to be able to make it. Coach prices are cool (there and back for £25!), but hotel/motel prices... not so much.

Just come for the afternoon then.

Obviously, don't if you're coming from Dundee; but if it's only an hr and a half or so, why not.

If all else fails, I have a flat here that I recently rented. It has literally nothing in it, mind, but I do have electricity, a laptop and 3G internet. (The simple necessities in life. I need nothing more, heh.)

But, yeah, a few hours in London if you are close enough will sure make up for this right miserable weather we are having.
Caffrey2011-01-12 12:26:13
If someone is really desperate for a place to stay I have a flat out in Northolt with two sofas in my living room, a single bed in my spare room, a sofa-bed in my study and a spare mattress which could be slung on the floor somewhere...

Might be a bit early getting there, the bus arrives at 12:50pm from what I can tell, unless I take an later bus and arrive around 1:50pm, and I'll have to be back to Victoria to catch the 8:30pm bus.

Though, gives me a chance to get unlost if I get completely confused on the tube.

Tube is really easy. From Victoria, get the Victoria Line tube to Oxford Circus, then the Central Line through to Chancery Lane. Exit station and turn left. (You will pass a M&S on your left.) Pub is 30 seconds up the road on the right hand side.

What about piccadilly to Holborn then either central to chancery or on foot >.> (that was what I was going to take anyway, based on google's map)

Many ways, sure. There is also the option of a couple of buses, too. The 73 runs from Victoria. (Get off at Tottenham Court Road and grab the 25 to Chancery Lane.)

Maybe bus will be easier?

The problem with taking a bus is knowing where you are and which one is your stop.

A bus from Victoria would be tolerable on Saturday (rather than painfully slow), but I think I would probably still tube it - especially if you're not familiar with Londres.

At some stage today I will send my mobile phone number to everyone who PMed me. I work on Holborn and at the present rate of progress it appears I will probably be in at work on Saturday morning. So if you get lost or want to touch base on Saturday, do feel free to give me a ring - I will have my computer on in front of me, so I will be able to answer transport questions snappishly.

And then I'll make my way gently down to the pub for lunch at 1:30-1:45ish. And hopefully it will be open, otherwise I'll have a serious organisational problem on my hands.

And luckily the Geography department at my uni is awesome, elsewise I probably would have forgotten completely to print off my ticket! biggrin.gif

Just checked up and the beer in this place is both nice -and- cheap! Good work, man.
Shiri2011-01-14 15:09:25
Apparently the food is crap though, so you might want to bring a packed lunch. suspicious.gif

(trying to find my retarded green kiddy back, bah)
Caffrey2011-01-14 15:28:29
I was going to spend the morning trying to read more of Russel's 'History of Western Philosophy', ready for Shiri. But as I only got up to the end of the pre-socratics last night I think I will give up and head out early tomorrow to go the Tate Modern for lunch tongue.gif

Should I be reading my philosophy for dummies again so I am not entirely lost in the conversation? >.>

Or just talk with those of us who aren't in on the philosophy conversation. biggrin.gif

On the contrary, if you read that, you might lose me. smile.gif Anything past Protagoras tongue.gif

Like I even have the cash to buy food from a pub, heh. I think it will just be a fish and chips for me.

As a completely unrelated aside. We really ought to do something as a group besides the consumption of alcohol, heh.

Museum/British Library/Whatever is close enough to us. Don't really know. I guess playing by ear is never a bad thing. I suppose sitting in front of dual/widescreen 32's at the British Library is not helping my creative side right now, heh.
Caffrey2011-01-14 16:05:40
I'm fine with any museum or art gallery. Haven't been to the British Library since last year, is it just the standard exhibition with the Magna Carta or is there anything special on?

I say we play it by ear and see how the drinking goes tongue.gif
