Is this a game where you build fortresses out of dwarfs?

In rare cases. One of my dwarves went into a strange mood and the game centered on him and paused. I thought nothing of it till I unpaused the game and he slaughtered the nearest dwarf, dragged his corpse into a butcher's shop, and made a floodgate out of his bones.

There's probably some mods out there to let you use dwarf corpses as a building material.

And Urist needs to go and some how trap himself in his own manse somehow and then starve to death. SOMEHOW, he'll find a way to manage.

I remember when one of my dwarves died building my river. sad.gif

(At least no one liked him.)

You mean you didn't have him kill himself to complete for the sake of saving time/dwarfpower/food/booze?

No, I had plenty of supplies. We just needed a river for water power and wells and infinite stone.
Ilyssa2011-07-31 06:03:50
Well then you can spare one measly dwarf. :3

He was like a legendary miner and really good at some other stuff. And his stinking corpse polluted my river.

Why do immigrants always arrive in large numbers right after I exhaust my wood stockpiles?
Ssaliss2011-07-31 10:06:43
I remember when I channeled out some lava for my workshops. Everything was prepared, and I only needed that last bit to breach the volcano. So one of my best dwarves went there, breached it, and started running... and promptly fell asleep. So I figured "Well crap, he'll be a bit injured. At least he'll wake up when the magma catches up with him." Well... he didn't. BBQ Dwarf anyone?

I stopped playing mainly because I knew not what the hell I was doing. To get some water in, to make mud, to make farm plots, I just dug into some water, and hoped it didn't flood too much, with no clue how to properly channel it. So, after a while, I ended up with 10+ holds/entrances to my fortress.
Ssaliss2011-07-31 10:33:24
Fortunately you don't need mud to make underground farms anymore. As long as you make them in the soil, that is.
Llesvelt2011-07-31 10:34:33
But I -liked- irrigating stuff!
Ilyssa2011-07-31 12:08:09
I just set my planter to harvesting above-ground plants and built a wall around the farm plot before I figured out irrigating. Now if I have absolutely no loam/sand/clay/ect. I let a murky pool loose into it and foraged/butchered pets until it was dry. biggrin.gif

Whenever I try to get into this game I fail miserably.
Lehki2011-07-31 15:35:29
If you dig down into an underground cavern that has cave moss, you'll suddenly be able to grow underground farm plots without irrigating first. o_o

I guess that's related to the fact that moss starts to spread on all your dirt floors.

The moss is so annoying.

GAH. I can't find any metal.
