And, earwort at least has that earache drawback to it. Doesn't seem to slow down most bards who know what they're doing.

I need help in knowing what I am doing as a bard:

What should I do to have a better offense?

Post a log of a sample fight first so we know what to answer with

The harbingers I've seen fighting 1v1 tend to go for manabarbs kills. You don't have many passive affs, but you've got a lot of ways to stack manadrain and with octave/manabarbs/nightshadeBlues/bleeding/minorsixth, you can really rack up the damage.

Glamours gives you a wide range of affs, most of which will cost power to use passively (rainbowpattern, maelstrom). Whether or not you'll find them useful is a question only you can answer.

Earwort is the most annoying thing to deal with as a bard, especially when you're using aurics. I'm 80% sure that aurics are cured in the order they were applied, though, so it's good to remember what order you usually stick them. (Eat Earwort/Eat Horehound immediately after is the problem here).

how about faeleaf? What is a good way to keep that down?
Xiel2010-11-07 21:36:55
If you want to keep faeleaf down, you stick afterimages with Flare. RainbowPatterns and HypnoticPatterns are your friends as a Glamourist especially as a Harbinger because of their lack of passive affs in comparison to other guilds. Work on sticking manabarbs on a person in Octave, but don't forget that egovice can help too when you start with the mana/ego draining. Build bleeding with a combination of BloodyCaps, ShadowPulse and active CrowCaws and it should tickle some when people try to clot with manabarbs up.
Furien2010-11-07 22:00:48
Compose Songname Stanza (7-9) Imbue Crowcaw
Perform Refrain Songname (target)

Repeat. Bonus points if you're in Octave and they're stuck with manabarbs.

Otherwise, go for a normal discordantchord/octave kill.

@furien what is a normal discordant chord / octave kill?

@furien what is a normal discordant chord / octave kill?

Drop Octave in the room, perfectfifth the victim and make sure they stay undeaf (blanknote) at all times.

Afflict with manabarbs/egovice/achromatic aura, hit them with Discordantchord.

Minorsecond once or twice afterwards and they'll usually die.

If this doesn't work, wait until you have 10p, do the above, except add in Powerspikes and then use the 8p Discordantchord. -That- should kill them.
Sakr2010-11-07 23:05:03
now octave and perfect fifth require me to be in the room. How about if I am gusted out, put to sleep, or something else. Would I need to restart the process all over again?
Lothringen2010-11-12 17:56:33
Gust is the most annoying thing you'll have to deal with as a bard. You can try using icewalls to stop it, but if someone really wants to escape (to the point where they do nothing but spam tumble for earwort, ignite/gust, etc.) - they will.

Octave drops immediately on movement, perfectfifth doesn't. I believe your target has to be deaf, move you, and move rooms before the perfectfifth drops, so if you get back fast enough, they'll still be fifth'd.
Raeri2010-11-14 00:05:42
P5th just requires the victim to manage to move rooms to clear, regardless of how they manage to do it (gustgustgustwithbrokensummonresistance, or the proper earwort/run way).
