I remember (ish) the start of aetherspace, and how for some reason even though I had the skill the turrets wouldn't work for me.
I remember the plague and the fun of finding and biting people that didn't have it.
I remember a time before Dingbats.
I remember the Aquamancers being at the top of topguilds for a very long time (And now there's like... four active people)
I remember when people were nagging for Gaudi/Halli way before they came out, only for some of those people to be upset with how it turned out.
I remember when Eventru first came back and my first interaction with him being a zap
I remember everyone being super excited about Isune comming back only for her to fade back into obscurity and never really appear again...

Remember when PK-ers used to respect one another (Thoros comes into mind as a great example of how to behave, even if you own almost anyone logged in at any given time)?
With a few noted exceptions, I think this still happens. I'm on friendly terms with all but about 2 people that I fight regularly.
One of the two snubbed me after they died and the other is Dysolis, so...

Moondancers and Nihilists used to be the two hardcore RP guilds in the game.

Nihilists still are though.
Nihilists have gone downhill but in no way at all is it the leadership. A big part of it is Nariah, then me in terms of Nihilist RP. We're both hardass RP nazis and if we had out way there wouldn't be a hardcore RP guild. All of them would be.

I'm pretty sure the majority of new players who read GHELP ACOLYTES are most certainly NOT going to have a clear idea of what their objectives are. NOVITIATES is pretty nebulous too, but not nearly as bad. This seems to be done intentionally, with the aim of getting them to talk to their elders to figure out what that is, but that doesn't mean it's going to work. Especially if most of the city tends to disappear for hours on end on Astral, or people are aetherhunting.
I feel like the real death of RP was when demigod became more accessible. There were way more people who were more willing to interact and socialise in the world environment over exp grinding.
Remember when most people were super pleased with themselves just for hitting level 80? Heh.

In their defense they are scrolls slapped together by Nepthysia for the sake of getting something in.
My depression comes at the fact that I feel more and more like a loner within the guild. I'm not around as much but it just seems impossible to find people willing or happy to expound deeply on the Demon Lords or to spend time discussing ritual and religion. The Nihilist leadership has always been focused on getting people to interact with the Seditionists, Iconoclasts, and Elders with the idea that those are the people with the most knowledge and information. But what can you do when those teaching don't know it and those learning don't care?
Edit: And I could be wrong. My attitude is the attitude of a bitter old man.

Don't get me started. I have the actual bulletpoint list, helped make it, and I still some days struggle to find these points down in the actual IC scrolls. We're working on it though.

Part of the picture is how much initiative goes into checking on the new players, which is key especially for undersecretaries, and which I feel has decayed on the whole as the game has become more and more complex, and there are more and more people in aetherspace, etc. I don't have a feel for this in its current state with the Nihilists, but if it's just a few from the Old Guard pulling all the checks while doing everything else that needs to be done, then yes. There's going to be frustration.
Putting that aside, I think that's enough of a highjack for this thread. At least it was vaguely on topic!

It took me one week to find someone to test me for my deep pact. And then Thalkros fed me to Luciphage, that was nice. And then I fed Enoch to Gorgulu. I bet that was a very good learning experience.

The key-word was handful! I liked only seeing a few demigods. They were, for lack of a better word, treasures.

I remember a distinct time a long time ago when the only demis I knew were Kaervas, Daevos and Ekard.
It all seemed... I dunno, more special then? It was such an achievement for them... and they never bloody complained the way I hear people these days doing about not getting demi soon enough or dying or what have you.

I don't have a problem with there being more demigods around-- my problem is that too many people are demigods who should never have gotten that far without having their heads beat in for their stupidity.
Unknown2010-11-19 20:29:36
To sum it all up, Demigod isn't special anymore. You're not special, assholes.
