Why is an Irish Quidditch player at Hogwarts? Is one of the roles a Quidditch player? Or is that just random flavor?
Umm, weren't there Quidditch games at Hogwarts in the movies and books?

Only between the four Houses, if memory serves. There was a Quidditch final in the books though, and I believe some of the players (or if it was just one) came to visit Hogwarts afterwards.

While I doubt Peeves is part of the scum, I'm equally disinclined to assume he's a townie based on his personality from the books. The most likely role for him to play IMO would be something non-town, but not particularly harmful, like Jester. (C'mon, don't tell me you can't just see him trying to get killed then laughing as his would-be assassin discovers he's already dead!)
Personally I'm guessing he's not even a part of the game, but rather just part of the background.

I guess the only argument against it would be if there are other roles like an SK it could possibly turn into two (Or more) kill attempts on him per night or potentially a day kill attempt. I have no idea if that makes a difference in how successful those would be against him as I have no idea what exactly saved him. That's just speculation, though, since we've really only identified the three groups with win conditions stated publicly and a decent chance that there's a roleblocker/doctor amongst us.
I think we can safely say there's a doctor/roleblocker based on the fact Fudge didn't die, but it might be dangerous to assume their abilities work in the conventional way. It could be a one-shot defence (meaning that two kill attempts- from an SK and the Mafia simultaneously, say - might indeed work), it could be something that requires recharging, or it could be limited-use, in which case relying on it completely is inadvisable. I don't think there's an SK in the game, based on the fact that we've had one kill on night one and one kill attempt on night two, though. I guess the incentive on whether to reveal himself lies with the dude playing Fudge. (My gut's saying "do it", but that's kinda how I roll.)

What I'm worried about is how god damn accurate they are so far. I don't know if it's just luck, but it's making me a little jumpy!
Likewise. It'll be very interesting to see their powers once we nab them (or they nab us). I doubt they know who everyone is though, or they'd probably have targetted the doc before Fudge.

Yeah, that's my only argument against a reveal. If whoever saved him can't do the same thing tonight, can only save him from one attempt, or something else weird, he essentially just served himself up on a platter.
Feyrll2010-12-15 06:37:07
I have mixed feelings about a reveal as well. Without a reveal, Fudge risks being lynched off, but with a reveal, night time becomes that much more risky. Plus I assume any reveal could be reasonably challenged/scrambled at this point by scum. Beyond that observation, I am taken aback that the DE's aimed at such important figures two times in a row - luck? Or do DE have extra skills where they know?
Casilu2010-12-15 06:37:14
Alright, I am convinced that the scum have no clue what all of our roles are. Rika was very likely a random kill and my guess would be that the scum on night 2 would target the most dangerous day players. It is what I do, anyway. You go after the power roles/ the people most likely to find you. That would come down to the most experienced or aggressive players.
So, who would those be?

Just a quick non-game related note - In about 5 hours I'll be starting my long and probably unpleasant journey to Snowsville for the holidays, so I'll probably not be checking stuff online for the next 18 or so hours assuming nothing goes wrong. So yeah, don't esplode the game while I'm not here.
Ileein2010-12-15 12:06:27
Hmm. Just based on the flavor my first thought was that either a doctor saved Fudge or a roleblocker blocked the scum in charge of the killing. If that's the case, though, only the doctor and scum know who Fudge is, or only the roleblocker knows who the scum is-- useful information.
Diamondais2010-12-15 12:42:14
I'm wondering if maybe the two leads have some minor protection of their own, which would mean they can hold on to their own selves for awhile. This is the wizarding world, we know for sure Harry took self defence magic training in the books (think he holds of Whats His Face in one of the books on his own for a little bit, something about wands), and I'd be hard pressed to believe if Fudge didn't.
Trinit2010-12-15 15:45:01
At least this Fudge guy is ok, but if the scum targetted him, they know who he is. Whoever you are that saved him should probably keep helping him. If it was a personal effect, well, that's all the better.
On the other hand, if we knew who Fudge was, we could look back to see if anyone had a problem with that person, or not.

Quick note before I say a bit: I am still alive and paying attention! I've been reading the thread and keeping up with everything, but this event in game plus my finals this week have been absolutely eating my brainpower. I'm still here...in spirit. Just don't expect me to be as talkative as usual. If you want me to speak up just post like WHERE THE HELL IS PHOEBUS and I'll muster together the will to put words into sentences.
Now that that's out of the way...
I have a funny feeling that whoever protected Fudge doesn't know who he is. Like, their power was maybe a oneshot "protect Fudge" power. It would just seem weird, to me, that both the scum and a protector sort of person guessed who Fudge was correctly after the first day. Or maybe they both had no idea it was Fudge and were just targeting/protecting someone who made a target of themselves somehow and he just sort of happened to be an important dude? This game completely messes with my mind. All the possibilities.

Oh right, also I think that maybe it's not a good idea to have Fudge roll out and be like YO SUP I'M THE GUY IN CHARGE. That's just asking for it.

But thanks to the flavor text, the scum already know who Fudge is. That will likely mean that they will go after Fudge again tonight, why shouldn't we all know who he is?

Maybe they didn't actually attack Fudge and it was just flavor? Maybe someone just roleblocked the scum and he just said that for the effect? Maybe someone else was chillin' in his office? I don't know man, this game messes with my head. I'm just ultra paranoid and I don't think it's a good idea for the big important guy to go I AM BIG AND IMPORTANT. You're better at this than I am though, in a scary way, so maybe you are right.

I feel the same as you, I don't believe Fudge or Harry should make themselves known at all unless they're on the lynching block. We of the town don't need to know who they are, we just need them to stay alive.
If someone tries to claim either, the real one really only has to step up, or if there are other townies that know it's not true they can speak up.
Unnecessary claiming is bad.

They might be helped by some of the town knowing who they are though, i.e. doctor and the-guy-who-knows-who-targetted-someone (can't for the life of me remember the role with this power). For most of us though; nope, not needed at all.

I'm not sure if I'm understanding this correctly, are you saying don't claim or claim?
I think it's don't claim, but it's worded oddly and my brain is a bit on the fried side I think.

Given the Ministry's win condition, there's got to be some kind of SK/cult. Given that there's only been one and then no NK on our nights... well, cult is looking more possible.
I'm ambivalent on whether Fudge reveals himself. Sure, the scum might target him again tonight but the doctor/roleblocker can just target the same person they did last night anyway... so as to Fudge's survival I don't see how it helps that much.
@ Phoebus: It IS possible that one of the Ministry is Fudge's bodyguard who gives Fudge a one-time extra life, so I guess we can't rule that out?
Also, is Ayisdra still playing?
