Before I begin: Wiki article on convoluted time shenanigans for those who like their brain to assume the shape of a pretzel. There is some good advice courtesy of Dave at the top there.
Moving onwards! I spent most of my boring class today trying to think of what things people might be able to do! I have nothing better to do. So, time for wild speculation! PREPARE YOURSELVES FOR A LONG POST FULL OF ULTIMATE NERDING.
(4) CLOVER- As was already speculated, he probably has a chance of negating a power used against him. However, due to the nature of his luck (really bad things won't happen, but "grey area" things like simply being thwapped with a newspaper aren't affected by his ability), I think it works as follows: really bad powers (killing, roleblocking, whatever other doomsday scenarios Casi has cooked up for us to inevitably find out) will fail, but things like simply being investigated will work just fine. This may or may not include immunity from night kills altogether, not just from powers.
(8)SNOWMAN- Something makes me suspect that if anyone tries to use a power to kill her, she'll take them down with her, or something to that effect. Since, you know, if you kill Snowman, you destroy the Universe. I don't think Casilu is crazy enough to actually have a "woops game over everyone go home" role, but honestly, I don't know with her.
(9)STITCH- Obviously some sort of doctor role, since he's the Felt's doctor/tailor, but I feel like there's going to be some sort of time-travel BS woven (hah I made a funny) into it somehow or other, rather than just having it plain. Well, maybe it'll act like the plain doctor role but have the flavor of being explained that he made them a backup effigy, rather than them just being mysteriously protected because a doctor said so.
(15)CANS- Maybe able to prevent someone from using their power that night, by punching them straight into the next?
(7)CROWBAR- I have the feeling that if anyone from tried to use a time-based power on him, he'd negate its effects with his crowbar. Maybe anyone's powers, but Crowbar's crowbar only works on time-related artifacts.
(6)DIE- Might have the power to kill anyone, perhaps at the expense of letting everyone know it was him. I think that, because when Die uses his power, he tends to end up right at the scene of the crime. This obviously isn't always the case (it was with Itchy's pin, but not with Spades Slick's) but it could be. Hmmm, maybe it'd be a toss-up, 50/50 chance that his role is revealed to everyone? That would make him a prime target for the Midnight Crew to take out before he kills one of their own.
(5)&(3) FIN & TRACE- Fin's power in the Felt is to follow someone's future trail and see where they will be going, and Trace's power is to follow someone's past trail to see exactly where they've been. This makes me believe that Fin may have the ability to check what anyone's role is, with the explanation that he would be able to see them "in the future" using said role. Similarly, Trace may be able to investigate any instance of a power being used, to see who was the one that used it.
---
Now, (10) SAWBUCK, (1) ITCHY, (2) DOZE, (12) EGGS, and (13) BISCUITS I wasn't able to form any solid ideas on. Doze can cause himself unable to feel pain with his time-slowing, but it has the drawback of making him easy to catch. Itchy can screw with people and no one will be any wiser unless he's doing it in an overt manner (which he usually is, too caffeinated to be subtle about it). Sawbuck's power I couldn't really get an idea I liked for- possible thought I came up with was that if anyone tried to kill him during the night, both he and that person would be locked away and unable to participate in the next day, due to being stuck in an alternate timeline from the blow.
Eggs and Biscuits? Dear lord, I don't even want to think about what they might be able to do. But, if there is a Biscuits, we can probably assume there's an Eggs too, since Biscuits on his own is pretty useless. Well, maybe his role is that he thinks he has a power but it doesn't actually do anything. Like, "oh, I'll protect you! Hide in my time oven and it will transport you safely to the future!" But it's just a normal oven and they just put a bomb in it and wheel it away and the killing happens as was planned.
Hee this is so much fun to speculate upon.
DOC SCRATCH I can't figure out either. He's kind of...nearly omniscient. Hrmm, maybe it has something to do with his magic cue ball, with its infallible predictions? But how do you work in infallible predictions as a power? It can't just mimic the one I think might be Fin's...
As for Midnight Crew powers, I really don't know. They mostly just shoot and stab things, instead of having abilities. Hrm. Well, each member of the Midnight Crew has a few things that are specific to them- a talent, a storage container (deck of cards), a candy, and, well, their smut (which is, for the most part, not actually smutty, save for Diamonds Droog.) But I don't know how they'd be powers. For those who aren't familiar with the ins and outs of Midnight Crew (most of you), I'll provide a handy reference of these things, just in case any of them may be in play:
â™ SPADES SLICKâ™
Talent: Killing/destroying clocks. He made this town.
Deck: War Chest
Candy: Licorice Scotty Dogs
Smut: Terrier Fancy Magazine (presumably about more licorice scotty dogs.)
♥HEARTS BOXCARS♥
Talent: Safe cracking/strength
Deck: Wrathtub
Candy: Wax Lips
Smut: Red Cheeks (it's about hearts! Really!)
♣CLUBS DEUCE♣
Talent: Explosives/bad memory. Finds clocks lovely.
Deck: Battledrobe
Candy: Licorice gummy bears
Smut: Black Inches (it's a wheel of licorice!!! I swear!)
♦DIAMONDS DROOG♦
Talent: Killing/being fashionable
Deck: Brawlsoleum
Candy: Swedish Fish
Smut: The Grey Ladies (it's-- ok, this one is pictures of women in greyscale.)
You could figure out all that from doing some digging in the wiki, but I figured it'd be much easier if me in all my fan-knowledge just listed it out for you. It may or may not even be relevant...but just in case!!
OH. And for the Comb Rave...I'm still wondering, is SMK included, and thus a fifth scum? If so, if he lives long enough for the Comb Rave to build up, he may be able to use Fill 'em With Daylight, which is pretty much a universe-wide instakill. I know that's technically DMK's Comb Rave, but it's still MK! May function as a "hurry up and make your decision" mechanic. Eee I don't know!!! It will be so cool to find out more of what the heck is going on!
Did I mention this is really fun for me to speculate upon? Because I'm having a blast.

Fill 'em With Daylight is only a half universe-wide! We just need to escape to the other side of the universe (not likely but still!)
Ayisdra2010-11-08 21:37:00
Also, maybe I missed it but did Othero ever reply to our voting and thoughts on him being scum?
Unknown2010-11-08 21:38:56
Yes, he replied. Look back a page! Oh, right, that reminds me-- I meant to do this just in case our bandwagon hopping got a little out of hand before we heard from everyone.
Unvote!! For now.

Othero's not in ninjalynch range, so I'm going to leave my vote there for now.
Ah, Day One, how I love you.

I just kept flipping back and forth on if I should keep it there or not. We still haven't heard from Lorick, and I think I'd rather wait for him to show up before I fully commit to something. Decided to stick with my usual motto of better safe than sorry.
Diamondais2010-11-08 21:51:36
Oh my Phoebus, thank you for that anyways! May the caffeine be ever plentiful, it's a lovely substance.
Hopefully Lorick gets around to replying soon, and Arix and Aysidra have a chance to get back.

Okay. I'm here and I've read my way through a lot of stuff. Six pages in one day is giving me a really good feeling about this.
I do not have very much new to add yet. I've barely had time to digest what is being said, but from the two suspects presented by Gleip, I am personally more willing to vote for Phoebus. He is way too much trying to guess the setup of the game, instead of applying logic analysis of the posts already given. Claiming that there is only "slight suspicions and wild accusations" going on is wrong, considering there's already been some pretty good analysis for why he and Othero are potential scums. I also get a feel that he's saying "I'm not really suspicious about Othero, but you guys are saying so anyway so I'll vote for him."
Vote: Phoebus

To be honest, logical analysis of the posts already given will get us only so far at this stage. That's why Day One is so... fun. Yes, fun. That's the word.
Arath2010-11-08 22:28:58
Well it's taken us pretty far already hasn't it?

Always, always with the guy thing. Am I really so masculine?
Anyways, I originally voted for Othero because we had more reason to be suspicious of him than anyone else at that point, and I wanted to get the ball rolling- we really needed to start voting for someone. If you'll notice, I've since withdrawn my vote, waiting for more information. But, honestly, "slight suspicions and wild accusations" really is all we have to go on on Day One, since all we're doing is over-analyzing people's posts right now. I think voting along with everyone else is less suspicious than pulling out the random vote right out of the gates. How do you know that vote actually was chosen by Random.org? And there's zero basis whatsoever for it. At least in the case of voting along it's a collective mistake if it ends up being wrong, and was based on some reason, no matter how flimsy and poorly thought-out.
Really, there's no "logical analysis" happening here. It's all shaky theories we're pulling out of a hat because there's no real foundation to stand on as of yet.
Once things start moving, we'll have more to build upon. For now, I'm going to use my vast Homestuck/Midnight Crew knowledge to pick at things and try to figure out what we maybe need to be on the lookout for. Also, because it is fun.
Rika2010-11-08 22:33:55
Vote count please?
Othero and Phoebus are both acting pretty suspiciously right now, for the reasons you guys have mostly covered. However, if Othero was scum, he would probably try to fish/wait for other people to give out details about their roles before voting for someone based on his own role. Phoebus is posting a lot of stuff that most likely is useless and is confusing me. Not sure that's enough to say that she is scum though..
I'd like to go back to Arix. He is the Joker. Casilu is the mod. Add one and one together and you have two. In this case, two is a huge mess. Vote stays.

It's not useless! ...Maybe!
I'm posting a lot because I love MSPA so much and guessing what everyone will be able to do is a lot of fun and I might be able to think of things that you guys wouldn't, with the gigantic amount of Homestuck knowledge I have at my disposal. Sssigh. I'm so eager to play this game that it's going to get me picked off right at the start. Derp.
I still don't think cards have anything to do with the roles, so I'm not convinced on the Arix vote.
Arath2010-11-08 22:43:49
Your and Ileein's claims that we've nothing to go for has already been pretty clearly debunked. But then again, the best place to hide a confession is in plain sight.
You're essentially admitting that you're joining a bandwagon to join a bandwagon. It's easy to read that as such when you're so clearly struggling against an application of logic, instead of waiting for the powers to start flying around.

Well. Yeah. I'm not hiding anything, there's nothing to "read", I said exactly what I'm doing. When I voted I said I was joining the bandwagon, because he was seeming slightly more suspicious than everyone else. What do you want me to do? Lie and say I'm doing it for some convoluted reason? That would probably make you feel better, wouldn't it. Ok, I voted for Othero because his word choice reeked of deceit and tasted like bitter lies.
I've since withdrawn my vote, opting to wait for more information before making a hasty decision. How is that "struggling against an application of logic"?
But in the end what I say is: It's Day One. Our options are many. Our knowledge, scant. Roll with it. Let's do this man. Let's make this happen.
