I was looking forward to an eq-bonused furrikin too. I would've thought they'd be the caster equivalent to aslarans who're made for the melee people.
But, personal greed aside, I agree - mugwumps and merians will probably still see low use considering their weaknesses. Igasho and tae'dae speed will still see them low use cause of entangle spam, though the small nudges are appreciated still for the dwarves and orclach.

I totally forgot about that. I really appreciate the admin taking the time to look at races, I do, but if something as major as that didn't change, the whole thing comes off as a huge joke, honestly.
Mirami2010-12-12 06:26:19
Tae'dae still need help, they were already too slow to be popular... at 30% slower than 'normal', they're all but unusable.
Eventru2010-12-12 06:30:21
21%.
Unknown2010-12-12 06:38:19
Arguably, merian is now the aslaran equivalent, not furrikin, given both aslaran and merian have weaknesses, and furrikin don't.
Plus furrikin still got 1 int out of it.
P.S. I don't want to be a cat person, I will add kawaii anime cat ears so help me god.

Igasho are now old tae'dae speed (and tank better than tae'dae did), while tae are now even slower. Her point's still there, just not quite as extreme: 6% slower balance regain, instead of 15%.

Furrikin have a fire weakness that stings a bit. Nothing terrible, but it's there. We're like the Hufflepuff of Lusternia. Not horrible in much, but not really good at anything either.
Unknown2010-12-12 06:52:09
Yeah but merians and aslarans have more severe weaknesses, so all I'm saying is that I can see why they're picked as opposed to furrikin.

I think I'd choose an Aslaran as my race for a caster before I'd choose Merian, though. One less weakness, and two more points of con, and 14 int, which isn't bad. The balance bonus makes them even better if you have a skill that uses it (Tarot).
Lorina2010-12-12 07:03:14
I was really looking forward to becoming an Imperial Merian again, but the 1 level increase in equilibrium doesn't seem to balance it enough...Just because I would be a tad bit faster at casting, doesn't mean I am going to live much longer...
Xiel2010-12-12 07:06:23
The electricity issue is what stings, I'd say. Considering that the zaps are what can snipe people out, I'd worry more about that than the fire weakness both aslarans and merians share.
Eventru2010-12-12 07:14:01
Is demigod zap the only reason merians are unattractive? Maybe the problem isn't racial, but instead demizap that should be changed?
Xiel2010-12-12 07:17:17
Demizaps are what stand out most for me. Them being long range doesn't help the merian/mugwump issue with the low CON.
The other electric-based things like artie elemental runes and Aeromancer staffcasts are more secondary to me and comes with the territory of fighting different classes, but demizaps are everywhere.
My two cents, anyway. Other people might have different opinions.
Edit: Oh, and asked around a bit. I wondered if it was zapping that made being mugwump or merian so dangerous to be and some folk I asked actually said no. They pointed out the low CON, but then I compared them to faelings who likewise had low CON, and things such as the sip bonus the faelings have and the CHA which can be used to offset low CON (from Forcefield, I assume) were brought up. So there's some other opinions too!

Maybe you should be able to "flavour" your demizaps, IE make yours poison, or cold, or magic?
alternately, just make it straight damage.
Shamarah2010-12-12 07:21:46
I agree. I think the one reason no class should ever, under any circumstances, go Mugwump or Merian is demizap. If demizap was changed somehow it might be more viable.
Faymar2010-12-12 07:26:54
Sooo... what happened to the races that nobody plays? I can't seem to find the exact post by Sior (maybe the thread got mangled that way when it was closed for a while), but I remember that there were zero Taurians around, and I think one or two more races were in the same situation. Did the admin decide that nobody likes them simply because they are so balanced, just like monks? Are the admin going to modify warrior damage to scale better with strength? Are these races not worth the trouble and are going to be deleted?
I am quite curious.

Probably, either or.
People have been asking for the former for some time, and it would add a bit of variety to the zap purchase opportunities, though the latter would be easier to balance around.

Mmmm sip bonus for merians? Yummm
Sylphas2010-12-12 07:52:40
In cases other than massive burst damage, faelings are tankier than many races with higher con. Definitely tankier than high elfen or furrikin, from personal experience. The sip bonus is crazy.
