Let's hear it from you guys, who in your opinion is the best game villain?
For me I'd say it's this guy:
Jon Irenicus
What makes him badass is the way Bioware (of old) portrayed him in the Baldur's Gate series: Voiced by David Warner, a powerful mage and memorable speeches (I can still recite the first encounter dialogue after creating a new game up to the part he freed himself from Spellhold and took care of the Cowled Wizards).
Like most villains, his reasons behind his choice of actions are both revenge and power, which I say is justifiable, the fact that he is stripped of what made him elven and was banished from his homeland rather than given a 2nd chance to redeem himself. Too bad he had to do the same mistakes that got him banished in the first place rather than earn his way back by using his talents to help others.

Hmm, I apologize for not really knowing that character because I didn't play FF 6, however based on what I've read and heard, he's a psycho who kills without thought correct?
Gleip2010-11-25 10:56:35
Yes. He's also funny while doing it.
Lysandus2010-11-25 11:04:25
Ahh ok then! Hmm guess I should try FF 6 then...

Anyway, I put a vote for a few others.
The Guardians of Neo Arcadia.
They're really more of Hero Antagonists, and they are completely awesome at it. I'm still mad they got a poorly handled bridge dropped on them in the third game, but in the first and second game, they manage to be hard to fight, fun to fight and have a very good reasoning for what they're doing.

God I hated those guys. I didn't even like the original guardians who're they're just copying all that much.
Actually I don't think I liked ANY of the characters from the ZX series. I miss X and Zero. ):
EDIT: Oh, and game villans. GLaDOS all the way. 8D

I'd have to agree on Irenicus.
And yes, he didn't try to redeem himself - but he wasn't inspired to, either. The Seldarine stripped him of his soul - he no longer had the capability for remorse or empathy that would be required for him to want to redeem himself. He even forgot his love for Ellesime (and that was a badass speech, let me find it).
Here! Towards the middle, the discussion with Ellesime.

Are they a part of Megaman X's universe? Sorry, little rusty on game lore nowadays...

SHODAN is Esano's avatar. Great villain from underappreciated classic System Shock 2 (and inferior prequel System Shock, I guess, but that's not what she's famous for.)
Esano2010-11-25 14:17:33
She's very much like (and possibly inspired) GLaDOS.
Lysandus2010-11-25 14:19:35
Ah ok, thanks for clearing that up

Yeah. They appear in the Megaman Zero games, which take place after Megaman X. The series is for Gameboy Advance, and it's... rather dark, with things being far more gray than earlier megaman games. Phantom dies in the first game, but the three others keep saving Zero up until the third game, while still being his enemies.
